I'm surprised at the number of people who didn't know that. But, then again, most ppl do use a dishwasher to clean their dishes rather than hand wash them nowadays. Because the spatula comes apart whenever I've washed mine.
I’m TOTALLY a hand washer. I use my dishwasher as a drying rack 😂

No, no dishwasher for me. Higher electricity and water bills. 😅 I put them on a dish rack to drip and towel dry them.

Buy the ones that are molded out of one solid piece that’s not joined, and dosent come apart. No place for anything to hide.

Also it's best to use plastic or rubber spatulas that do not come apart. In many kitchens that's a hard no.

Pam, how do you clean them? Mine are full of mold, and I have tried everything. I was thinking of buying one piece spatulas instead.

I wash mine with bleach and a Q-tip. I also wash my dishes in bleach water.
She’s right, my son showed me that years back, I was about to throw it out thinking I messed it up somehow. Thank God kids are smarter than me, sometimes.

I use my straw cleaning brush to run down inside the handle hole. After they have dried up a little bit I put a Q-tip down there to really make sure I get all the gross junk out.

But how to easily DRY the inside?
😊 I have always wondered why my spatulas came apart. I thought they were broken and that the heat from the dishwasher broke down the glue. Then I'd throw them away or super glue the handle the the spatula. Good to know! I'm glad I came with you Mrs. Pam, so you could show me what to do. You have saved me 💰. Thank you!

Not only rubber spatulas but vegetable peelers with rubber style handles (OXO) come apart and most silicone/stainless handled kitchen utensils will take on water, to prevent it, face them head down in the dishwasher or when washing/drying.
I specifically buy spatulas that are a single piece so that I don't have to worry about this.

That’s why I like the one piece ones. I used to have a lot of the ones that came apart and after taking them apart to clean them so many times they started coming apart on their own when I was using them. Thanks for the advice. I’m sure many people didn’t know to wash them in pieces

Running to spatula drawer now. But a neglected utensil is a can opener, the bottom of a mixer.
I most often use spoonulas these days. 1 piece construction. 😁 However, I've been taking my 2 piece spatulas apart for decades, and just air dry them, after washing and rinsing.

Pay attention. This is for rubber spatulas. Silicone spatulas are one piece. Don’t hurt yourself trying to pull those apart, folks. 😁

My daughter Diane does that, but when you put it in the dishwasher, you have to take the rubber spot and turn it upside down so the water can get up into the hole of the spatula and get all the crap out
