I feel like Purple Lamp’s role in developing BFBB: Rehydrated has probably opened up a whole new world of opportunities for them. So I wonder what the future holds for them.
With some of the “so so” reviews by other RUclipsrs who haven’t played the original and not so great reviews by other, I was about to pass on this game and just play the PS2 version. I hope you’re glad to know that this review makes me wanna reconsider that decision.
If I were to give a review of the game, it would be very similar to this one. The only real gripes I have are more personal opinions more than anything. This remastery did a very good job capturing the same joy and entertainment I had playing the original
You were the review of this game I was most excited for and I’m so happy you loved it. I adored this game from start to finish and Purple Lamp certainly has my attention when it comes to future games. Sing the meaning of fun for the people in the back, because you did a job well done
It’s so refreshing to get a review of the game in a positive light. Although, when mentioning the negatives, you should’ve said that the bosses can only be fought ONCE. Going back to the boss fights just send you back there without any bosses. Though the may be just a glitch on PS4
I literally cannot understand why so many people were hating on this game! Its literally the exact same game but it looks better! I absolutely adored Rehydrated!
It's because that's basically all they did was give it a facelift, whether it was reasonable to expect more than just a graphical upgrade is debatable but that's the major through line I've observed with criticism.
GodOfOrphans debatable? I’m not so sure when remakes like the Crash and Spyro trilogies did quite a bit to their base games in addition to a graphical update.
@@Mojo1356 I don't really disagree that they could've done more but I do think it's worth pointing out that THQ nordic is not as much of a moneybags publisher as Activision, it looks to me like they really should have done a bit more but realistically I don't think it could be quite on the level of Crash and Spyro regardless.
GodOfOrphans obviously it would be difficult to be on par with the trilogy remakes, but what got added (the multiplayer) was super sloppy to say the least barring the quality of life updates Logan mentioned.

Honestly, a bunch of the less than stellar feedback I've seen for Rehydrated has come from the speedrunning community, which is collectively agreeing that the original is far more interesting to speedrun, especially given that as of now any% world record is around 2 minutes thanks to a warp straight to SpongeBot phase 2. There's not really a point to optimizing that, and as of now cruise boosting is also a lot harder to pull off.
I never agreed with that feedback, truth be told. Plus, I never was a fan of the Any% Category where you could just warp SpongeBob Phase 2 myself. That never jived well with me.

Glad I could catch your video, man. Your content never disappoints. Confession: I’ve never actually played all the way through BTBB, even though I owned it as a kid. Hell, I don’t think I even got that far beyond Robo-Sandy. I’m glad Purple Lamp and THQNordic has given me another chance to experience this game all glowed-up. I actually just bought it on the Nintendo eShop because I couldn’t wait for my physical copy to come in, so we’ll see how the console version fares! Thanks for being awesome, and stay healthy, my dude.
I just replayed Pac-Man World on my original PS1 recently... I doubt we'll get it, but I'm down for remakes of the Pac-Man World games. Even the original is still really good to this day!
I'm gonna be honest; if they brought Clancy Brown back to voice Mr. Krabs in Rehydrated, I kind of would have missed the original replacement VA; the VA for Krabs in the original was kinda part of the original's charm for me.
Ah, I remember playing the original so well. I definitely need to get Re-Hydrated soon. Of course, As happy as this made you, FM... *looks at Paper Mario Origami King* I think you have a job to do.
Smashster 1 I’ve played a little bit of it, and have seen the ending on RUclips... It’s nowhere near the same level as the OG trio... But it’s not bad. It’s respectable it in’s own right. It helps if you think of the game as more of a puzzle adventure instead of a true RPG.
Rodrick Goldberg. Nice to hear your thoughts on it. Unfortunately, I still haven’t gotten to playing it(Still waiting for it to come to my library). However, I’ll take your advice when I get to playing it.
Smashster 1 There still isn’t experience points, but battles are a great way to get coins and confetti (confetti being a material with an actual use). So while some fights are technically optional, you’re still encouraged to engage in battles. Plus, they’re actually enjoyable because of the puzzle elements and you don’t have to rely strictly on finite resources for combat. That’s right, BASIC JUMPS AND HAMMER ATTACKS ARE BACK! 🤗
One of the most asked questions (probably) but here it goes: what are you thinking of the new paper mario, what about the paper mache and origami estetic?
It's a strange feeling that the remake of a SpongeBob game is somehow superior to the remake of FFVII in terms of both overall quality and faithfulness to its source material
Complaint wise, all the ones you nailed match up with mine. And again, even the ones you didn't mention that I saw are mostly cosmetic things, like how the boss battles outright TELL you how to beat them as opposed to figuring it out yourself (which was already pretty easy to do), and the fact that none of the beta stuff got into the main game for no good reason alongside multiplayer being the most lazy thing I've ever seen sucks too. But the biggest thing for me was the completion bonus--which, tbh, I'm surprised you didn't touch on. Imo there are two benchmarks you gotta do to fully 100% this game: Get all the Golden Spatulas, and get into the theatre, which takes 40K in Shiny Objects. In the original, I was pissed off that all you got was an alternative ending that didn't mean jack or shit, and the theatre was basically just a slideshow of scrapped beta concepts, but in retrospect, I get it. They were short on time, no one expected this game to be an underrated classic. There's no excuse for the exact same issues being present in the remake: not only is there still no real incentive to get all 100 Golden Spatulas, but now there's even LESS to the theatre than before. I expected a secret level, hidden boss, unlockable cheat codes, hard mode for future playthroughs, ANYTHING different, but it's literally just a somehow even CRAPPIER slideshow of pictures in the game that you can DO YOURSELF. 'Disappointing' is an EXTREME understatement.
FYI, the reason Clancy Brown didn't record for the original game was supposedly because he didn't think the video game contracts paid enough for him to justify working on it, hence why they replaced him with Joe Alaskey. I don't know precisely how accurate this is though, because he did voice work for a number of SpongeBob games preceding this one, such as Operation Krabby Patty, Employee of the Month, and Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, none of which probably had as high a budget as Battle for Bikini Bottom had.
On another note, it's strange to hear how many tune-ups were made to the gameplay that the other reviewers didn't comment on. I've watched at least two reviews with Battle for Bikini Bottom veterans and both failed to mention these tune-ups, instead talking about how the visual-audio aspect of Sandy's lasso hover was changed, or how there's no zoom-in for Mrs. Puff's "Don't ask questions" line, or how Robot SpongeBob's Kah-Rah-Teh attack comes out in the wrong order.
the only problems I had with Rehydrated were the announcer (1. not showing up in phase 2 of the final boss, like you said; 2. lacking a couple of lines for every other boss phase he appears in; and 3... this looks like an opportunity for Spongebob), the final boss’s attacks being slower & more telegraphed, glitches concerning Sandy’s lasso, and a few bugs/changes in sfx. But those are just drops in a bucket.
I like Logan, he seems like he would be an awesome friend. Because even when ya disagree with him, you can't be mad. His jokes alone are enough to turn a bad day around! That coupled with his upbeat attitude, makes for one of the best RUclipsrs ever.
Can I please recommend: ONESHOT. This is the SINGLE BEST GAME I have ever played. As much as you can appreciate fandoms, franchises, and storylines, Oneshot is the best game I ever ever played in the sense of being one absolutely, shockingly, view-changingly awesome experience. I cannot recommend it enough. (also, if you decide to play it, do NOT go the Markiplier route and just play the normal ending, just trust me when I say, KEEP GOING)
Okay, so I played the original and Rehydrated and I see Rehydrated as an upgrade if we're just talking any% playthroughs. But I'm surprised that you didn't bring up the inability to refight bosses, the massively inflated prices for Mr. Krab's golden spatulas, the Spyro Reignited-esque death load times, or the abysmal movie theater bonus reward. None of these things ruin the game for me but when we're talking a 100% playthrough (which is my personal way to play 3D platformers)- Rehydrated has some really nasty snags that the original never had. Idk, maybe it really just didn't matter to you. Regardless, great video and another excellent review to honor BFBB's legacy.
I will say that, as a new player (Although I did play the Spongebob Movie game, but not BFBB), I was just a mite disappointed in Rehydrated. Mostly because... 1: It had been hyped up so much that I was super excited to play what people seemed to think was one of the best games ever made. 2: I had just come off a major high from the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remake, which absolutely blew my mind and was exactly the sort of "Oh wow, I can't believe I was missing this all my life when I was in the right age bracket for this series" (I got Pokemon Platinum, yet somehow completely missed explorers of sky? I have no idea how I did it either). So... I was ready for my mind to be shattered into a million little spongy pieces (yes that metaphor makes no sense but I'm keeping it) by another golden oldie... and instead I got what to me felt like just a decent 3d collectathon platformer. Granted, maybe this is just because I'm not a Banjo/Spyro/Ty/Mario/Sonic/(Insert your favorite collectathon platformer mascot here) fan. (They're fun, I just don't get super sucked into scouring every corner of the map to find collectables like some do). Also, speaking of the comparison between PMDDX and BFBBR (Which granted, yes, is comparing two totally different games, I understand that's wrong, but again as someone who basically played them back to back, I can't help but compare them). I would never go back to the original Red and Blue Rescue team because of the sheer massive improvements that were made between quality of life and new mechanics that change up how the old classic was played. Meanwhile I question several times during my time in BFBBR "Should I be playing the original?" with how the mechanics differed.
Do a video called "Top 10 Worst Uses Of Time Limits In Video Games" since you and other people really hate it. Whether it be a section, a boss or something else.
I also did a review on bfbb rehydrated on my channel (LoganBearScout) and I pointed at the negitve mostly and I completely agree with you and still have my opinion. But to answer your confusion, some of us were excited for the cut content and thought it was going to be added to story and not a shity multiplayer mode and feel we've been cheated but, I have sead as a remake I was disappointed but honestly I glad I bought cause my ps2 broke hey for me it was conveniently coming soon. Bfbb rehydrated is a disappointment but it is still bfbb so since I can't play the original, now I can still play one of my old favorites. Because it a remake that promised cut content however, I have to give the 4/5 it deserves ( I give the original 5/5). If you watch my review, first sorry for the bad audio, second keep in mind I was also want to make it entertaining and I had no footage so a bit ranty and I review on just the remake part and not bfbb as a whole in all honesty I just feel the same as you..fellow....Logan, wait hold up are two Logan sharing the same general idea of the game...don't tell me we also share birthday.

Ngl i forgot this channel existed
At least Robo-Squidward looks good, right?
I just completed the game 100% and it’s sad cause it’s the only game I completed 100%....
It still a great game though, huge nostalgia
Well Logan, Origami King looks like its getting mixed reviews. I think we both know what needs done
Meanwhile I question several times during my time in BFBBR "Should I be playing the original?" with how the mechanics differed.
for some reason i’m subbed but it says i’ve never watched any of your videos and i have no memory of fawful’s minion. what was the old channel name?
AnimalGuy003 or something
Terrific video as always, but what was the joke/what did he say at 10:03 through grunts?
I have had glitches in the visuals on my Steam version, but it's probably my laptop.
Did you see the honest trailer for this game? It came out today.
Out of context question to this video can you do a video when you do a possible move set for fawful In smash brothers
Btw sorry for the paragraph.
I have the Switch version but I enjoyed playing it.
Now dats my green been boi
