    AVOID cylinder deactivation. It's extremely noticeable.

    I guess she volunteered to do this video because it was a suicide mission. No way am I going to buy a car with this technology especially on a 4 cylinder engine. Last week I had a 2020 Mazda 6 as a loaner car and when I got on the highway it just lost power going up a grade now I know why. Did not know about the display feature. It just does not make sense. Now I have read about the Mazda recalls what they will do is deactivate this feature just like GM did. Also this start stop feature that a lot of cars have is also a complete waste of time.

      @marketingmajor8126 3 года назад +8

      Yup, this feature has already caused destroyed engines on the Mazda's that have it. You'll end up with coked oil remnants in the deactivated cylinders from the vacuum that's created as the deactivated cylinders continue to move and eventually the coked oil particles will clog the oil screen, lead to oil starvation then destruction. Even if that problem were solved, that still wouldn't prevent the uneven cylinder wear which will eventually take place with continual use of cylinder deactivation. Best thing is to avoid any models that have it.

    Yes. I have questions. Please tell me how to turn off cylinder deactivation. It saves only a miniscule amount of gasoline, but it shortens the life of the engine in the process because of the heat differential that can occur between cylinders. In addition, if the Mazda3 has engine start/stop technology that takes effect when I stop at traffic lights how do I turn that off? It leads to early failure of the starter. With both of these technologies the gasoline savings is small, but the cost of early failures of the starter or engine are quite large. I am in the market for a new Mazda3, but it will go to the bottom of my list if I can not turn these two things off. Thanks.

    Cylinder deactivation doesn't "turn two cylinders off". Those pistons and valves are still there. They're still moving, they're just not producing any power, so the remaining two cylinders have to sacrifice some power (and MPG!) to keep them turning.

    Just got the 2022cx5 ce coming from a totaled 2019 cx5, all this time I did not know it has CD until I play with the infotainment and find the CD status screen. One reason I pick mazda is because they don’t have stupid engine auto start/stop, cvt and no turbo for the base engine. Was going to keep the car long term but I’m worry about the longevity of the engine now. At least give us a way to shut off CD, let the consumer choose between longer engine life or couple extra mpg!

    Hello Carla, thanks for the video. I have a question if possible to tell me which is better to buy Grand Cherokee 2001 - 2004 V6 or V8 and why? Does these types of vehicles have cylinder deactivation system? Thank you 🙏

    • @highwaymazda9381
      @highwaymazda9381 5 лет назад +1

      Hi there! You ask a few good questions. I doubt that a Grand Cherokee would have the Cylinder Deactivation. The technology has been around for a few years, but I doubt it would be in that kind of vehicle. When considering a V6 vs a V8 you need to consider what you are using the vehicle for. A V8 will give you more power, more towing strength, and use a lot more fuel. A V6 is plenty strong enough for most drivers, and will be more fuel efficient. If you are looking for lots of power and fuel costs are not an issue, then the V8 will be a fun drive for you. But if you are conscious of fuel and don't require excessive power, I'd suggest the V6. Please let me know if you find that helpful. ~ Carla Anne, The Car Lady

      Highway Mazda - Hi Carla, thanks a lot for the information you provided, yeah sure it’s really helpful and you have good way to explain as a prof. Instructors. I would love to have SUV, some of my friends advised me to get V8 is better in torque, power and strength plus it’s V6 & V8 are the same in fuel consumption as they said, so that I asked you. I’m not going to towing anything, so that I’m going to take your suggestion and have V6 😊 thank you, have a nice day.

      Highway Mazda - forgot to ask is there’s any device or something to install into SUV’s JGC for Cylinder Deactivation?

    • @highwaymazda9381
      @highwaymazda9381 5 лет назад

      Hi there. Thank you for your replies! There is no way to add Cylinder Deactivation to a vehicle after it is manufactured. An engine has to be designed with that right in it from the beginning. So you either have it or you don't. If you are looking for an SUV with excellent fuel economy and the cylinder deactivation I would highly recommend a Mazda CX-5.
      It's true that the more cylinders you have the more power you have. But again, it depends on what you are using your vehicle for. I think about it this way: Do you drive in such a way that you need lots of power? For example: are you towing a lot? Or do you drive high speeds often? If you drive hard and fast, and don't care about what you are paying in fuel, then more cylinders is a fun idea. Trucks, and vehicles that tow would be great in V6 or V8.
      But if you are looking for a commuter vehicle - an SUV that you will drive to and from work and on road trips - and you are considering fuel economy, I would suggest an SUV that either is a V4 with cylinder deactivation (best fuel economy) or a V4 with Turbo (a little more torque and horsepower - but still decent fuel economy).
      Jeeps are not well known for fuel economy. So again... it will depend on what you are using the vehicle for.
      Where are you located?
      If you prefer, you can send me an email to CarlaAnne@highwaymazda.ca.

      Highway Mazda - Mazda CX-5 is beautiful nice car but it’s pricey in which I can’t afford it, so that I was thinking to have SUV JGC 2004 to be reasonable price. In addition I like ground clearance cars to be a little bit high due to roads nature in Egypt 🇪🇬 where I live. I need the vehicle for daily use commuter, I’m not going to towing.
      The fuel is an issue for anyone, I’m looking for nice shape car, power, strength and reasonable price.

    Three things I don't like about modern cars:
    1) CVTs
    2) Stop-Start engine technology
    3) Cylinder deactivation
    4) Auto braking and lane assist
    At least Mazda doesn't have #1 and #2, but has #3 and #4. Can't win them all.

      I understand 3 but you’re over exaggerating 4, you can always shut off those safety systems but you say you don’t like it until it either saves your from an accident or saves someone from hitting you cause their car has auto braking…

    • @CrazyRiGuy

      @@Booboobear-eo4es I understand your point and I agree that distracted drivers are at an all-time high but I personally have a Subaru Outback with these safety systems and have had no malfunctions for service needed for them. The only thing is I have to get the OEM Subaru windshield in order to not mess with these systems, as well as the systems need to be calibrated after. Besides that, the system has saved me twice and both times I wasn't on the phone but rather looking at other vehicles (such as making a lane change and checking it's clear while the vehicle in front brakes for whatever reason) I think they're invaluable and super great for new drivers and old drivers who don't have the reaction time or experience to prevent a collision.

    Mazda only did this cylinder deactivation to help with fuel economy because their fuel economy on these 2.5 are trash. Barely 20 average in stop & go on my AWD 3 with the non turbo motor. Mazda should just move on from the 6 speed, release an 8 speed that with create better fuel economy and dump the cylinder deactivation
