    Cylinder deactivation doesn't "turn two cylinders off". Those pistons and valves are still there. They're still moving, they're just not producing any power, so the remaining two cylinders have to sacrifice some power (and MPG!) to keep them turning.

    This does wonders on the cx 3. Especially when you keep that 2.0 engine healthy. I clean my fuel system/injectors every 10 000 kms. I live in South Africa the highest fuel we get is 95. And I've never seen a car so eager to go when I start it over the past 3 years owning one . Paddle shifters are a fun add-on. Mazda skyactive engines are that good. The paddle shifters are not a gimmick you can do insane stuff with these . The high compression ratio engines are remarkable. Shouts to Mazda engineers

    What about sensitivity? The car just turns high beams off when there's a firefly in front of it ...turns off when a car is almost a mile away. I had some problems with this as I almost struck a deer yesterday night. I have to turn this automatic futuristic crap off. I'm starting to hate it when a car takes over my driving. It's often more dangerous than safe.

  • @PM-dz9fe

    Yes. I have questions. Please tell me how to turn off cylinder deactivation. It saves only a miniscule amount of gasoline, but it shortens the life of the engine in the process because of the heat differential that can occur between cylinders. In addition, if the Mazda3 has engine start/stop technology that takes effect when I stop at traffic lights how do I turn that off? It leads to early failure of the starter. With both of these technologies the gasoline savings is small, but the cost of early failures of the starter or engine are quite large. I am in the market for a new Mazda3, but it will go to the bottom of my list if I can not turn these two things off. Thanks.

    Lol, just realized I had these. I prefer using the “stick” shifter. Miss driving manual with a clutch. One thing I thought was a bit off base was shifting to 1st. Most people who drive manual with a clutch rarely use 1st. I wouldn’t shift to 1st in a parking lot, 2nd is king.

    Mazda only did this cylinder deactivation to help with fuel economy because their fuel economy on these 2.5 are trash. Barely 20 average in stop & go on my AWD 3 with the non turbo motor. Mazda should just move on from the 6 speed, release an 8 speed that with create better fuel economy and dump the cylinder deactivation

    Just got the 2022cx5 ce coming from a totaled 2019 cx5, all this time I did not know it has CD until I play with the infotainment and find the CD status screen. One reason I pick mazda is because they don’t have stupid engine auto start/stop, cvt and no turbo for the base engine. Was going to keep the car long term but I’m worry about the longevity of the engine now. At least give us a way to shut off CD, let the consumer choose between longer engine life or couple extra mpg!

    • @DroneStrike1776
      @DroneStrike1776 Год назад

      No. The computer is designed for fuel saving. It's why it will always hunt for the highest gear to sip fuel. High rpm, more fuel consumption. All modern economy cars are tuned to save fuel and a human can not out compute the computer. Sports model has better throttle response and lets you rev higher, but Mazda only recommends you use it for passing cars. Well I use it all the time when I want to do some spirited driving. Uses more gas, but return more smiles.

      With the Mazdas Auto. u can change the gears even in D without going into manual position. Just up or down with a flip on the paddles . U can this way slow down without braking, use more the engine brake , or upshift quick to take it easy... With the Honda CVT u can not do that in normal D.

      @@zimben8 This is very helpful to know. I live in the Midwest with snowy winters. And I live in a hilly neighborhood. In all my previous old cars I always shifted down on snow-covered hills to avoid sliding thru stop signs at the bottom of a hill. I've had my new CX5 for 4 months and with winter on the way I was wondering how to shift down. I had no clue and thought paddle shifting ONLY worked in manual. I just tried what you said and it works perfectly. You have helped sooo much. Thanks! 👍

    • @adamkieffer6827
      @adamkieffer6827 2 года назад

      This comment doesn’t even make any sense. First, it’s not fake shifting - you are actually shifting the gears otherwise you wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Maybe it is technically shifted by a computer but you told the computer to shift when you wanted it to and not when it wanted to so you still have control over it. Do you use a mouse for your computer? By moving your hand with the mouse you tell it where to go don’t you? You do the mechanical action of moving the mouse and the computer takes that input and moves the cursor on the screen. You have control of the computer by how you move the mouse with your hand even though your hand isn’t physically moving something on screen. It’s the same thing here. You have more control shifting this AT manually even if you physically aren’t rowing through the gears. Second, it takes much more effort and coordination to shift a manual than it does to manually shift an automatic with a manual mode. These transmissions actually baby you and won’t let you mess anything up whereas with a full manual transmission you have to pay attention to your revs, what gear you’re in and what gear you’re going into (fearing the dreaded “money shift”). You also can’t stall with a AT in manual mode. Is a manual better and more engaging? Sure, but its also a dying breed thats becoming less and less offered in new cars. In the future you might find yourself “fake shifting” an AT. Interestingly, many modern high performance exotics only come with some form of AT that can be manually shifted with paddles. What a world of ideas indeed.

    Three things I don't like about modern cars: 1) CVTs 2) Stop-Start engine technology 3) Cylinder deactivation 4) Auto braking and lane assist At least Mazda doesn't have #1 and #2, but has #3 and #4. Can't win them all.

    • @CrazyRiGuy

      I understand 3 but you’re over exaggerating 4, you can always shut off those safety systems but you say you don’t like it until it either saves your from an accident or saves someone from hitting you cause their car has auto braking…

    • @CrazyRiGuy
      @CrazyRiGuy 2 года назад

      @@Booboobear-eo4es I understand your point and I agree that distracted drivers are at an all-time high but I personally have a Subaru Outback with these safety systems and have had no malfunctions for service needed for them. The only thing is I have to get the OEM Subaru windshield in order to not mess with these systems, as well as the systems need to be calibrated after. Besides that, the system has saved me twice and both times I wasn't on the phone but rather looking at other vehicles (such as making a lane change and checking it's clear while the vehicle in front brakes for whatever reason) I think they're invaluable and super great for new drivers and old drivers who don't have the reaction time or experience to prevent a collision.
