The short prequel written to the Shining, Before the Play revealed Roger's full name was Lewis Roger Toner aka Roger the dogman. Lewis was Horace Derwent's accountant and former lover aside from Derwent's wife that was obsessed with Derwent but Derwent wasn't interested but told Roger he'd reconsider sleeping with him again if Roger came to Derwent's 1920's unmasking costume masquerade party dressed as "a cute little doggy, " as sadistic amusement and cruelty for Derwent and his party guests. After Derwent humiliated a drunken Lewis at the unmasking costume ball Lewis committed suicide in the bathtub of his room, like Lorraine Massey, overdosed on pills and drowned. He was also amongst the Overlook Hotel's imprisoned human ghosts conjoined to the Management, the sentient demonic entity of the Overlook Hotel itself, alongside Horace Derwent, Mrs. Massey/the woman in Room 217/237, Delbert Grady, Derwent's dead mafioso associates that were murdered in the Overlook Hotel's presidential suite, Grady's identical daughters, Derwent's predecessor that owned the Overlook before Horace, and several of Derwent's dead 1920's party guests that possessed Jack Torrance in the book, film and miniseries along with the Overlook Hotel's demonic spirit itself.

If my dog had a face like that I'd shave his ass and teach him to walk backwards.

I could only watch ten seconds of this. The image of the dog suit is too disturbing.

In Stanley Kubrick's loosely based 1980 classic Roger was dressed in a brown bear costume vs the silver dog costume and wolf/dog mask worn in the book. with an open backside, rubber bear mask with small red eyes, animal nose and costume mask fangs. In the brief cameo of Roger the dogman/bearman and corrupt former owner and mob connected Howard Hughes playboy millionaire businessman aka Horace Derwent. In the 97 miniseries Derwent himself was the dogman. I believe the younger middle-aged ghost receiving some brain from the dress up bearman/dogman was a younger middle-aged Horace Derwent during the time period of the Overlook Hotel's 4th of July Grand Ball Masquerade while the elderly bald ghost with his head split open (Injured Guest ghoul) was an old or late middle-aged apparition form of Derwent's spirit manifestation. "Great party, isn't it?", at the age and time period Derwent was when he died, no doubt at the hands of some of his infamous organized crime connections and partners/associates.

This isn’t Stephen King reading this, though - it’s the actor Campbell Scott. Who does have a pretty cool voice, admittedly.

In the 1980 movie it is a Man In A Bear Costume but in the original 1977 book it is a Dog Man
