    This is basically what audience reactions were to the original book back in the 1960s. Dune Messiah will be a very rude awakening! But that’s why he decided to write it. Really great reaction, Naveed and Mansoor definitely appreciate really good filmmaking and everything that goes into that-the cinematography, the music, the acting, the sets, the effects 👍🏼

      That's the whole point of Dune. Fanaticism is dangerous, even if the person people worship has the best on intentions. Fanaticism blinds people, just as it has blinded Stilgar in the end.
      As Paul said, "they were friends once, now they are followers". One cannot feel "friendly" with a living god, gods exist to be adored.
      I don't think Stilgar would have stopped even if Paul himself commanded it. People blinded by faith tend to see only what they want to see and hear what they want to hear. Javier is incredible in this role - we can laugh and meme about him all we want, but we also feel sorry for him because we see him falling from a wise leader of his people into a zealot.

    To clear up some confusion about the Bene Gesserit, Jessica, Paul and the Harkonnen: In the books the Bene Gesserit sisterhood maintains a breeding program in order to produce the Kwisatz Haderach that they can control. The sisters of the Bene Gesserit (they can only be women) normally do not know their parentage. Usually, they have mothers of the Bene Gesserit and fathers from one of the Great Houses. Jessica did not know her parentage, so it was a complete surprise when Paul told her that they were of Harkonnen blood. The Bene Gesserit (of which Jessica is one) are only supposed to bear daughters until it is time to bear the Kwisatz Haderach, however, Paul came early. Jessica was supposed to only have daughters, but because of her love for Leto Atreides, she bore him a son. Also, because she trained him in the ways of the Bene Gesserit, he became a danger to the Bene Gesserit because he was not under their control.

      When I was much younger I had a friend at school who was Pakistani (as well as two Persian friends) so I know that Urdu is the national language (I should have mentioned that, but I wanted to keep the post short). When I subscribed and started watching this channel I just assumed that they were speaking Urdu, but then I started hearing individual words that I recognized from other languages from neighboring countries. My school friend was from Karachi (now Islamabad) which would be “the big city” in American slang. Then I started wondering “well, since they are from an outlying rural village they might be speaking something other than Urdu - maybe Sindhi or Pashto.”
      Now I realize that I’m just picking up on certain Persian/Arabic elements to the language and started second-guessing myself. (This channel has been my first opportunity to really hear the language.)
      I also realize that Google translate seriously needs to step up their game when it comes to non-western languages! I knew just enough to get myself in trouble and Google translate did not help in figuring this out. I really got myself turned around in my attempt to explore this! Lol
      Anyway, I LOVE this channel and I want to have more friends in my life like Mansoor and Naveed!
      And their Dune reactions were PURE GOLD! It was delightful and refreshing to see a reaction from smart people who can more directly recognize and culturally connect to the numerous Middle Eastern elements that are baked into this literary masterpiece.

    The third film will probably be coming out in two years or more. It will be based on the second book, Dune Messiah. The book takes place 12 years after Dune, but might the movie might take place much later. There are a few reasons for this that are because the movies changed a few things-
    - Paul's sister, Alia. She is born during the first book, and grows to be about 2 or 3 years old, but she is a full Reverend Mother at birth because Jessica took The Water of Life. The actress who played Alia in the vision, Anya Taylor Joy is 28, so if she is playing Alia in the third movie it will need to take place much later, like 20 ior more years later.
    - Chani was never against Paul becoming the Mahdi, the Lisan al-Gaib. She believed in Paul in the book, and was partially trained in the Bene Gesseritt ways to become Sayyadina (Friend of God), a wise woman in Sietch Tabr. When Paul takes Irulan as his wife in the book, Paul tells Chani it is in name only. Irulan will have no warmth, no love, no child of Paul's...nothing. Chani is comforted by Jessica in the last lines of the novel, saying that "we who bear the name of concubine, history will call us wives." How Chani will come back to Paul will be interesting to see.
    - I stated it in the last reaction...Paul is not a hero. At all! But...that's the story of Dune Messiah...

    I love that they recognise that his father was certainly not a weak man. He was a great man who clearly loved his people and his family and showed the responsible way to live by example. I have heard a lot of people agree with the emperor, and I disagree.

    Of course Jessica is scary. Show me a mother (let alone one as powerful and dangerous SHE is) that WOULDN'T be.
    What's really sad..? None of them had a choice. It was do or die.

    Enjoyed the reaction, even if they did fall for the trap of the entire point of the books/films, which is a warning to NOT fall for messiahs/extremism, as it only leads to the death of all (to massively simplify it.) You don’t need to wait for “Messiah” to understand that, but so many people still somehow miss it.

    As two middle eastern men, how do you feel about the messages of Dune? One of Frank Herbert’s themes in Dune is about how Western society has plundered the natural resources of the Middle East. The Spice Melange could be the equivalent of oil…. Any thoughts?

    Funny to see how they are the kind of people that would fall for paul. when he made his speech in 47:00 they said chani was mad because she loves him. Nope she was mad because the original author said that paul is not a hero but an anti hero who uses faith to exact revenge. The blind faith caused wars, and religious conflicts and it works because a great speech and a chanting mass can make you feel great and cause you to not think about the consequences of following 1 person without opposition. Nice to see they fell for paul ;) Shows movies like this are important to show the masses that dictatorships are not startet by brutal force but 90% of the time by clapping masses that think they have found their messiah

    • @andrewmelnikov292
      @andrewmelnikov292 4 месяца назад +2

      I wouldn't say she's "stronger". Chani from the book may feel something is wrong, but she trusts Paul. Chani from the film acts like his counterweight, his... "conscience"?
      He cannot show weakness. But she experiences it for both of them. In a way, it's her box of pain.

  • @MuadDib042
    @MuadDib042 4 месяца назад

    Loved your reactions. You definitely followed along better than many English speakers. However, its unfortunate that you misunderstood Chani's resistance to the prophesy and Paul's reluctance to take it on. Chani knows that the religion was created by the Bene Gesserit to control people, but people like Stilgar are too invested to see past that. And Paul fears taking on the role of messiah not only because he agrees with Chani, but he knows it will lead to a holy war/jihad that will kill billions of innocent people. The only reason Paul accepts his fate is because he knows that if he doesn't go through with it, the Fremen will loose the war and he and Chani are likely to die. Paul chooses to kill billions of people to get revenge and save his skin
