Yup, I think the only way to really do a faithful adaptation of the book is to give it the "Game Of Thrones" treatment; A big budget series on cable or streaming service. The first book alone is so dense that it probably has enough material in it to do two 10-episode seasons.
As dense as these two movies are, they only cover about one quarter of the first book. But for the overall plot, they do a good job of telling the story.
Lady Jessica was one of my favorite things about this movie. She went from a mother protecting her son to a fulll on cult leader all in 20 minutes of the movie and I was amazed at how Rebecca Ferguson was able to switch to a completely different character while still remaining as the same character. She’s a wonderful actress and she doesn’t get enough credit for her versatility.
I think that's the base level of it, but on a deeper, more personal aspect it's about Paul facing his inner demons. Like he said earlier in the movie, his family has been facing the Harkonnen's for centuries; they know everything about their mortal enemy, their hatred for them is boundless, hell even look at Gurney's feelings for them, and with how close he and Paul are I'm sure a lot of that rubbed off on Paul. Now Paul learns that these people who are essentially worse than the devil in his eyes are actually his ancestors; imagine the internal conflict that must be going on there. He already doesn't want to continue down this path because he knows it will end in a galaxy wide genocide, now on top of that he learns he is Harkonnen - the people who are eaters of planets, slavers, genocidal maniacs, sadists, the list goes on - and everything he and his family were fighting against for generations will become his identity. He will essentially go against his genetic coding, everything he was taught since birth, and become the most loathed and detested machination of his psyche. I can't even begin to imagine what that must feel like. I'm sure this goes even deeper if you were to fully study it, but that's what I have for now. Paul essentially sacrifices every moral belief of his character, and for what? His life - his true life - is forfeit.
14:56 They never explained this in the movie, but if you hit a shield with a laser gun, it will cause an atomic explosion that will destroy anyone and anything even near the event. That's why they used the laser only after the thopter was destroyed. You also can't use shields when travelling in the desert, because it attracts the worms like crazy. That's why Harkonnens use laser guns on Fremen, because they know that they don't use shields. At around 3:53 one of the soldiers yells "No shields" because the shields would cause the worms to attack.
For those that haven’t read the book, in the first movie, Dr. Kines explains why shields aren’t utilized in worm territory. Some insight is given during Paul and Gurney’s sparring session. But you’re right, there was no direct explanation regarding lasguns or bullets. They do show what happens but a first time viewer might not immediately catch on without a formal explanation.
He didnt "dump" Chani...he was to marry the princess, but only in name. He only loved and would be "with" Chani. But he had to marry the emperor's daughter to legitimize his ascendancy to the Emperor.
Nope, Paul was supposed to be a girl and marry Fayd Rautha Harkkonen and bring an end to the feud. There child was who they thought should be the KH. Jessica defied her order and birthed a boy out of love for Leto thus screwing up the Bene Gesseret plan for the KH.
Cody is a prime example of why Denis HAS to do Dune Messiah 😂 just like Herbert had to. Paul: "Billions will starve to death" Cody: LETS FUCKING GOOO 🙌🏽

“Is this a horror movie?” Well, Alia has hundreds of generations of memories and trauma inside her all while not yet having a personality of her own as well as no training or life experience to deal with that generational trauma…..Yea, it’s going to be “an issue”.
@@Franzburg that’s my only gripe with the movie, that Alia hadn’t been born yet and she was the one to say “grandfather”. Waaay creepy and foreshadowing for what’s to come.
The nukes didn't miss. Paul aimed for the mountain to blow a hole through it so the worms (and the storm) could get through. The storm winds will render shields ineffective (I think this is what the movie is trying to depict with the flames coming off the emperor's ship), which is necessary when worms are around so they don't go into a frenzy and kill each other. This is why it was critical to time the battle with the storm. Paul also couldn't aim the nukes directly at the army because atomic attacks on humans is outlawed in this universe, and comes with severe penalties. The great houses would have responded by basically whipping the Fremen out with their own arsenals. In the book the emperor actually tries to charge Paul with illegal use of atomics, but Paul responds, almost humorously, that he merely targeted a "natural feature of the desert" because it was in his way and he was "in a hurry to get to you."
The shields turn red when they are being penetrated. What you saw with the Emperor's Palace was the wind picking up sand and blowing it through the Palace's shields which is why you could kind of see it trailing behind almost looking like flame when in fact it was dust/sand interacting with the shield.
@@obelisk21 it's more than just particle penetration. As the book explains, storm winds short out shields, rendering them ineffective. The emperor and his fleet would have had their shields activated inside the Shield Wall because there was no threat of a worm attack (shields drive worms into a killing frenzy). The Shield Wall (the mountains) protect the region from worms, and storms. This is why Paul blows a hole through the Shield Wall -- both to allow the worms through, and the storm, of which it was critical that they impact simultaneously, in order to short out the shields so as not to drive the worms berserk (and consequently kill the Fremen riding them in, not just the Sardaukar on the ground). IIRC the book mentions nothing about the particular fire-like detail coming off the emperor's ship in the movie; that's likely the director's subtle way of hinting at the fact that these shields aren't going to be effective with the storm winds. The winds would have impacted the emperor's ship before the forces on the ground, after all, as winds are stronger at higher altitudes, coming over the mountains.
Yeah the book (and the 80s movie) covers several years so the sister is born and is about 4 or 5 years old by the final battle. Not to spoil the book but let’s just say she’s pretty intense for a preschooler.
Alia, has been given the knowledge of all her ancestors in the womb. She will therefore be born with an adult mind. The danger for her is that one of her ancestors could possess her mind before she has her own mentality. That is why the Bene Gesserit are "afraid" for her.
I find it was an excellent choice to bring a lot of scale to the Universe. Many planets of various types that look completely alien. This whole movie was about scale dialed to 11.
Because they know harkonnen are evil and opposite to Paul so they gotta hate. Just wish they would shut up and just admit the whole thing was excellent. Probably the best scene in the whole movie for me. It was pretty epic.
And I think the black and white added a certain elegance and a definite sense of style to this set piece. Once again visually delighting us without overstaying it's welcome.
@@herbertkeithmiller Plus it wasn't only black and white, they filmed it with infrared cameras which : 1 Means they decided to go balls to the walls since they couldn't go back on their decision and had to stick with the colorless no matter what 2 Made all the skin tones extra white and "waxy" giving an extra layer to how everything felt alien
5:55 "Are we supposed to have subtitles?!" - Yes. Though there are none for this scene (because Chani translates it for him) you should have been able to see the translation of what the Harkonnen troops were saying at the beginning 17:48 "Dude can't get enough of those oil baths" - It's not oil, it's processed Spice. They stated in Part 1 that, aside from being a mind altering hallucinogen, it has enermous health benefits and can even extend life. The fact he is using them so frequently is a direct result of Leto's attempt to kill him. He survived but his lungs were most likely so damaged by the poison that he needed constant spice baths to keep him going. It's also why he had those floating things attached to him. It's basically like someone walking round withan oxygen supply attached to them 20:14 "Is the baby the messiah?!" - No, she means metaphorically. The baby however will be born fully conscious as a result of the Water of Life - which is how she is speaking to Jessica in the womb. Imagine not even being born but having the awareness of not only an adult but someone who can see the future. Unlike the 'Kwisatz Haderach' - the Bene Gesserit messiah (Paul), this was not meant to happen
"Poor" Chani. BUT, at the end of the book, lady Jessica pulls Chani aside and tells her “history will remember us as wives” she explains Irulan who is technically Paul’s wife, will never feel tenderness or love from Paul, and she will live as “less than a concubine”. Meanwhile the ones who the great leaders, Leto I and Paul, loved in reality were the unofficial wives. Btw. In Paul's holy war the casualties were 61 billion lives, the sterilization of ninety planets, and the "demoralization" of five hundred additional worlds. Furthermore, 40 different religions were wiped out, along with their followers.
@@ashchaudhary8338 yeah i know, they mocking us believers. It just fun to watch, but again for us muslim we do believe in the coming of imam Mahdi and Isa Al Masih
The atomic missiles where used to breach the Shield Wall, a naturally occurring mountainous, rocky geographic feature that protected Arrakeen City and the plains around it from the brunt of the storms of Dune and the worms. The breach allowed Stilgar and his Fremen troops to ride their sandworms straight into the Plains of Arrakeen to rout the imperial Sardauker army.
Furthermore, it is forbidden to use atomics against people. Anyone or any organization doing so would immediately incur the wrath of all the Great Houses.
Many people didn't understand this at first. and for me this was the most surprising moment of the film. The first time I saw the scene I was speechless exclaiming: how clever, he used the bombs to make a breach in the mountains so that the worms could enter to enter and find the emperor alive!! It was the most surprising moment and not everyone caught it.
@@titokrause - Of course he only used a few of the atomics to do that. He still had the bulk of the arsenal which he used to threaten to nuke the spice fields if the Emperor did not capitulate to his demands. If he nuked the fields that would have permanently destroyed all spice production on Dune, and that would have thrown the entire Known Universe into chaos.
So there some rules in the book that you cant use atomic weapons on other people... it would give cause for every other house to nuke you back. Paul uses the loop hole that he blew up the shield wall mountain range and NOT using them on people
I'm just guessing, but I think they didnt lead the attack with the las-guns, is because they're vulnerable to the gunships, but the gunships are shielded, and in the Dune books, you never ever want to hit a shield with a las-gun, it triggers a chain reaction that will kill the target AND the attacker.
I've seen any number of reactors unable to understand that the homeworld of the Harkonnen's is Giedi Prime, it has a "black sun", that's why everything looks weirdly black and white.
14:56 "why didn't we just start with doing that?" because the shooters would have given away their position and then the ornithtopter guard would have gunned them down
I love this movie… BUT I wish they spent more time on Paul’s “a sleeper must awaken” part, because it’s so much cooler and impactful than the movie portrays it and can explain his change much better after he drinks the water of life. I also wish they had added the dialogue between Paul and Chani when he speaks to the Emperor. Overall Villeneuve did an amazing job, especially dealing with Paul’s sister and everything else. Can’t wait for the adaptation of Messiah
11:35 apparently an animal wrangler said the same to Harrison Ford whilst filming Indiana Jones; the smaller ones are deadlier than the larger scorpions.
When the Mom drank the water of life- all of the memories from previous reverend mothers were also passed along to the child. So yes. The unborn baby is talking to her Mom.
Spoiler alert: if you thought Paul was a big bad dude, he isn't even at his full power at the end of this movie. AND you may have no idea how bad his son, Leto II, becomes in later books. Oof, I hope they get to do the other books, but I wouldn't count on it. Also, Chani and Paul do continue to be together, but Chani will never be his wife. Politics.
It's hard to recall because there's so much going on in Part 1, but Paul's father very pointedly said that he wished that he had married Lady Jessica. Also Lady Jessica and the baby, Alia said that Paul was blinded by love. Even the Emperor said that Leto, Paul's father, followed his heart and that made him a weak man. All of this is to point out that even though Paul promised to marry Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), he would still love, and be with our girl Chani. No worries! Lol
One change they made that results in confusion, but was for narrative efficiency: The houses didn't honor his ascendancy... in the book they do, but the holy war essentially traverses the galaxy because the fremen essentially create this exclusivistux religion based on Paul being their messiah, and its like a crusade to enforce that belief. But if the houses, in unison, didn't honor his ascendancy, then his honor based coup/duel/marriage wouldn't be helpful, since that was done to smooth the transition of power, essentially following the rules of the transition of power instead of a full revolution.
"there are no sides." the benne gesserit game is to play all sides. all their bets are hedged. they identify all candidates for the throne, then send in their agents to seduce them. they have their preferences, but whoever wins will have a nun at their side, spawning their heirs. the former reverend mother probably didn't have being deposed on her bingo card, but new reverend mother jessica is there to slide right in without missing a beat.
...btw one thing that I wish was explained in the Dune films is that when shields are involved you can't use lasers (lasguns) because it would result in an atomic explosion that kills both parties.
The only issue I have with part 2 is the time compression, in the book (and the previous tv and movie) this story took place over 4.5 years. with Alia being born (and is 4 years old by the end confrontation) and performs one of the acts that Paul does in this movie (won't give it away in case you read the book, watch the TV Show or other movie).
Marrying Irulan makes it easier for Paul to become Emperor, and ends the Corrano dynasty (because it remains an unconsummated marriage with no children).
Imagine kissing the ring baring the symbol of the family you tried to erase. Ouch! I bet at that moment the emperor wished Paul would've just stabbed him
14:57 They couldn’t start with it because they had no concealment, so if they used the lasers they would’ve revealed themselves to the Ornithopter. They shoot the Harvester first later when they have mountains to hide in.
11:00 When the fetus (Alia) was exposed to the Water of life, she was pre-born, she gained full consciousness plus the memories or the past reverend mothers.
I hope this movie spurs people to read the books because they go so incredibly deep on every imaginable aspect and can teach one a lot about humanity. Frank Herbert was a genius who was immeasurably beyond his time. The scene where Paul discusses "being Harkonnen's", for example: Like Paul said earlier in the movie, his family has been facing the Harkonnen's for centuries; they know everything about their mortal enemy, their hatred for them is boundless, hell even look at Gurney's feelings for them, and with how close he and Paul are I'm sure a lot of that rubbed off on Paul. The poison unlocks genetic memory. By beign a fetus, it means you have no personhood developed yet, no personal life. You are just an embodiment of the memories.
“Think on it, Chani: the princess will have the name, yet she'll live as less than a concubine - never to know a moment of tenderness from the man to whom she's bound. While we, Chani, we who carry the name of concubine - history will call us wives.” Although noteworthy Chani is much different in the movie than the book.
14:47 that is a perfectly valid question because the movie fails to explain a vital piece of information. If a laser hits A shield there is a good chance that a catastrophic explosion of both the shield generator and the laser will occur. With the Thopter flying around they couldn't risk using lasers and the thopter could then spot where the laser beams are coming from and Target it. Generally to use a laser against a shielded vehicle is suicidal. 30:17 like in the Cold War if one side uses nukes the other side it's free to do so. So blowing up the other side cities will result in mutual assured destruction. There is a treaty among all the houses stating this. But that only applies against their troops or their cities. Paul will find a loophole. 50:43 Chani Übers out
not to be rude or anything but do people just not watch the movie or something? Ive seen so many reactors think that Paul missed when his nukes hit the terrain instead of the spaceship, but like, they literally explained their plan in one of the earlier scenes?
They also talk to much over dialogue which causes them to miss important information. Not trying to be rude, but just a suggestion for them to talk less.
I loved it when Jessica told Paul "will be waiting," which was a mic drop, I loved your reaction. Look at your cover who was in the middle Jessica. They were all following her.
The mechanics of worm-riding make a lot of sense, in pratical terms. The hooks are use as reins like with a horse BUT have a far more important role. When the hooks attach on the armoured segments of the worm carapace, they expose the sensitive flesh beneath it. The coarse sand is abrasive to the worm flesh, so it prevents the worm from rolling over, submerging and kllling the rider. Awesome world building, right?
i often write that when i watch reactions to dune but again we have people that are critized by the movie. every time chani critizes paul the both say " trust your man". Nope thats exactly the issue! The Author of the book said "the worst thing that can happen is if people find a "hero". By blindly following people like paul we go straight a head into fanatism and dictatorhip. thats what the book show us later people have to endure 5thousand years of dictaroship under leto II because they choose this dumb path. And again we see 2 reactors who think paul is doing good. uses masses, music and you get a blind crowd. Nice to see the movie show how blind we are today to that kind of person cult
Honestly, I don't treat movie people as I would treat them in real life. I only see fiction as fiction and want it to entertain me by taking me to places I would never want to see in real life. I love dark characters and usually cheer for villains (or antiheros and morally grey characters), because they are just more interesting to me. I don't need to see my favorite characters do good things, I want to see all the bad decisions and let my brain go to the dark places with them. I love to see and cheer for bad things and bad people in movies and for good things and good people in real life. Maybe that's why I could never be religious, I just can't treat fiction stories as real and I hate following anyone. So I would react just like those two reactors, cheering for Paul even more at the end. 😇
14:56 they can't start by doing that because if the laser hits a shield then a nuclear explosion will occur at the target and the source, so they need to make sure there are no humans alive that can enable a shield.
It's really crazy how the prophecy was written as a way to control the Fremen But the prophecy is also coming true (the whole Desert Spring's tears when Chani's secret name means Desert Spring etc for instance) It's such good writing because it really makes you feel like there's something else guiding this entire thing
The writers of the prophecy -- the Bene Gesserrit(probably spelled wrong) -- have foresight and guided the creation of these cultures for millennia. Paul, who gains perfect foresight, mentions that there are many futures and he chooses his way through them; that alone means the concept of the prophecy is bullshit, because that would require one true future. It truly is simply a way to manipulate populations.
I mean Chani’s secret name was given to her from the fake prophecy, and Jessica forced her to do the tear thing. At the end of the day its still them controlling everything
Akshully... the book is DENSE, but also very good, so I certainly recommend it. This is the best adaptation ever, but they had to leave out vast amounts of world building. One of which being: The Bene Gesserit seed TONS of worlds with the same prophecy as part of their "Missionaria Protectiva," as a way to protect any future Bene Gesserit sisters who end up on one of those worlds. They all know the story which was planted and can therefore lean into it, filling one of the roles in the prophecy, which provides them protection and resources via the local population, who see prophecy coming true before their eyes. However you ARE right. The strategy of seeding religion, the story told, is created based on spice visions of the Bene Gesserit, and so they were indeed describing what they foresaw. Thus on most worlds it was merely a survival strategy, but on Arrakis it was a history of the future.
You are, like many, mixing up "the prophecy" the Bene Gesserit implemented with the Kwisatz Haderach-prophecy of the bene Gesserit. On Arrakis, like on any other planet the Bene Gesserit implemented religions to give members of the order in need a way to live or rule the society they are stranded in. The Kwisatz Haderach on the other hand is the result of a Bene Gesserit breeding program. In Dune it happens to be coincedentially that the Bene Gesserit in need is at the same time the mother of the Kwisatz Haderach. "The prophecy of the Fremen" was made to rule over them but it was not ment to free them. That only happens because both prophecies came to fruition at the same time at the same place.
The prohecy is a story created of the visions of the bennegesserits. It is they're "narrow way" to secure the humankind future they saw. So...Yes, they manipulated a society to achiev said visions and in essence, the prophecy is both, fake and true .
Between Gurney and Duncan he's better off having Gurney with him. In the books it's revealed that Gurney and Duncan would go all out training with each other to keep their skills sharp and out of every 10 times they fought Gurney would win 6 out of 10. That's why he was the War Master who was trusted with knowing where the Atomics were and not Duncan. Gurney was the superior warrior and battle strategist.

Better than the first⁉ That's rhetorical...There is no comparison. Part Two is clearly on another level as a standalone movie. But it was meant to be this way. This is one long movie, split in 3 parts for practical and financial reasons.
"A Holy War begins" - "Oh, that's unfortunate" - The 61 billion people who are going to die as a result of this war think this is an understatement... Yeah, none of this is cause for celebration, Paul failed to prevent the disaster he foresaw, it's complete and utter defeat, though admittedly there's virtually nothing he could've done to avoid it. The instant things were set in motion with the Gom Jabbar, this path - the golden path - was set in front of him. Maybe he will deviate from it in the next part... only to set it in motion for somebody else...?
The burden of his new empire is passed on (and you might know to whom) when he eventually struggles with maintaining this type of control over the galaxy. There is another Destiny he ends up fulfilling, but it’s still tragic. He never owned his own life. He’s just another product of possession.
@@unanimousarts To know the future is to be trapped by it. His visions possessed him entirely, but Paul was still too human to continue on the golden path and that's why he remains a relatable character. I cannot say the same of his successor.

Flags are very important on battle fields also called standards they are rally points if you get separated from your unit that’s where you work your way towards. Also dune marriages are political arrangements not actual marriages. Paul needed to marry the emperors daughter to become de facto heir and inherit his choom company shares. All the great houses buy shares in the choom company that controls spice production. He also needed the emperors power in the landsradt kind of galactic parliament where the emperors power is balanced by the power of the combined great houses that’s why in movie one he needed to be careful about wiping out the atredes family. If the emperor moves against one of them the others will band together because they could be next and fight the emperor.
The Fremen hold water to the most highest regards.... They're EXTREMELY protective of it and for someone to even piss ........ The water is carefully processed and filtered and gathered up...
I'm gonna nerd out for a second. The reason that they don't use lasers when shields are present, is because if a laser comes into contact with a shield, then basically a nuclear explosion happens. So it would have potentially killed everyone if they had started with lasers on the spice miners
While your waiting for Part 3, read at least the 1st 3 books. You will not be disappointed and will appreciate Dune Messiah even more when it's released.

Paul is the KH just one generation early. So not 100%.

“Is this a horror movie?” Well, Alia has hundreds of generations of memories and trauma inside her all while not yet having a personality of her own as well as no training or life experience to deal with that generational trauma…..Yea, it’s going to be “an issue”.
Umm "St Alia of the knife" a name she earned at the age of 4.....
@@Franzburg that’s my only gripe with the movie, that Alia hadn’t been born yet and she was the one to say “grandfather”. Waaay creepy and foreshadowing for what’s to come.
Actually, if you do the math, it's more like millions of generations than hundreds.
@@ryanhampson673 Yeah she is my fav but I get why they changed it.
The burden of knowledge...is it a blessing or a curse, all a matter of perspective.
"This is straight up a horror movie" Regarding Paul's sister Alia, you have no idea!! 😆
Alia is scary AF in the books.
@@jmboyd65she's one of the most fascinating and thought invoking characters in the whole series. Especially in children of dune.
I know who of these two would absolutely fall for a cult😂😂
Kinda hate how everyone trash talks the arena scene. Like just sit back and accept the amazing villain introduction they are presenting us with.
I thought it was brilliant and terrifying. Which is what we want in our villains.
@@herbertkeithmiller Plus it wasn't only black and white, they filmed it with infrared cameras which :
1 Means they decided to go balls to the walls since they couldn't go back on their decision and had to stick with the colorless no matter what

Her literal unborn child is a reverend mother because of the water of life
5:55 "Are we supposed to have subtitles?!" - Yes. Though there are none for this scene (because Chani translates it for him) you should have been able to see the translation of what the Harkonnen troops were saying at the beginning
17:48 "Dude can't get enough of those oil baths" - It's not oil, it's processed Spice. It's basically like someone walking round withan oxygen supply attached to them
20:14 "Is the baby the messiah?!" - No, she means metaphorically.

Like a pair of nuclear bombs going off. One at each end.
I've seen any number of reactors unable to understand that the homeworld of the Harkonnen's is Giedi Prime, it has a "black sun", that's why everything looks weirdly black and white.

14:56 "why didn't we just start with doing that?" because the shooters would have given away their position and then the ornithtopter guard would have gunned them down
Exactly. Plus, if a Lasgun contacts a Shield, energy feedback blows up the gun and shield.
Politics.
Bridget: "Who's falling?"
Cody: "Are we falling in love?"
I damn near choked on my drink 🤣
It's hard to recall because there's so much going on in Part 1, but Paul's father very pointedly said that he wished that he had married Lady Jessica. Also Lady Jessica and the baby, Alia said that Paul was blinded by love. Even the Emperor said that Leto, Paul's father, followed his heart and that made him a weak man.
All of this is to point out that even though Paul promised to marry Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), he would still love, and be with our girl Chani. No worries! Lol
One change they made that results in confusion, but was for narrative efficiency:
The houses didn't honor his ascendancy... in the book they do, but the holy war essentially traverses the galaxy because the fremen essentially create this exclusivistux religion based on Paul being their messiah, and its like a crusade to enforce that belief.
But if the houses, in unison, didn't honor his ascendancy, then his honor based coup/duel/marriage wouldn't be helpful, since that was done to smooth the transition of power, essentially following the rules of the transition of power instead of a full revolution.
"there are no sides."
the benne gesserit game is to play all sides. all their bets are hedged. they identify all candidates for the throne, then send in their agents to seduce them. they have their preferences, but whoever wins will have a nun at their side, spawning their heirs. the former reverend mother probably didn't have being deposed on her bingo card, but new reverend mother jessica is there to slide right in without missing a beat.
...btw one thing that I wish was explained in the Dune films is that when shields are involved you can't use lasers (lasguns) because it would result in an atomic explosion that kills both parties.
18:59 „oh no you fucked up the dune“ describes the history of Arrakis in one sentence lol
Also there is a chance the lasgun might have hit the shield on the ornithopter. That would have set off a nuclear explosion.
11:00 When the fetus (Alia) was exposed to the Water of life, she was pre-born, she gained full consciousness plus the memories or the past reverend mothers.
Essentially possessed by the past, never gaining the chance to develop her own mind.
"If only Duncan Idaho could show back up." ... oh, you have no idea... 😎
Whaddya think: can Jason Momoa pull it off?😂

I hope this movie spurs people to read the books because they go so incredibly deep on every imaginable aspect and can teach one a lot about humanity. Frank Herbert was a genius who was immeasurably beyond his time.
The scene where Paul discusses "being Harkonnen's", for example:
Like Paul said earlier in the movie, his family has been facing the Harkonnen's for centuries; they know everything about their mortal enemy, their hatred for them is boundless, hell even look at Gurney's feelings for them, and with how close he and Paul are I'm sure a lot of that rubbed off on Paul.
2:45 howd I NOT make that connection omg, batman sun signal is the ultimate flex
"He made the right decision in the first one he'll make the right decision again"
*record scratch* You're probably wondering how I got here.
The poison unlocks genetic memory. By beign a fetus, it means you have no personhood developed yet, no personal life. You are just an embodiment of the memories.
In the book Jessica tells Chani that concubines are the real wives and that the other wives will never know true love.
Paul’s father never married Jessica because he wanted to keep his options open in case he needed to marry for political reasons.
The sister can speak when Jessica drank the water of life, it is not that difficult to understand, watch the movie again
14:47 that is a perfectly valid question because the movie fails to explain a vital piece of information. If a laser hits
A shield there is a good chance that a catastrophic explosion of both the shield generator and the laser will occur.
@22:37 "How the TUUURN TABLES"...................Nailed it 😎🤣🤣
19:32 How it lifts up is the whole secret to controlling the worm - it has to move the direction you want or it will get sand in uncomfortable places.
Sand worms don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
A) Yes, YOU should be using subtitles. B) I had no idea Dune 1 & 2 were comedies, eh chuckles?
i often write that when i watch reactions to dune but again we have people that are critized by the movie. every time chani critizes paul the both say " trust your man".
Gurney screaming mine! mine!
Him: what is this sorcery??? 😮
A mans flesh is his own , but his water belongs to the tribe
14:56 they can't start by doing that because if the laser hits a shield then a nuclear explosion will occur at the target and the source, so they need to make sure there are no humans alive that can enable a shield.
It's really crazy how the prophecy was written as a way to control the Fremen
But the prophecy is also coming true (the whole Desert Spring's tears when Chani's secret name means Desert Spring etc for instance)
It's such good writing because it really makes you feel like there's something else guiding this entire thing
Rebecca Ferguson is so beautifully scary in this...
Between Gurney and Duncan he's better off having Gurney with him. In the books it's revealed that Gurney and Duncan would go all out training with each other to keep their skills sharp and out of every 10 times they fought Gurney would win 6 out of 10.

I kinda dicked around watching Dune 2, because I wasn't a big fan of the first one. This however was EXCELLENT. I liked it much better, I thought Villeneuve did an incredible job with basically an unfilmable book. Timothee Challomet was outstanding in this, I'm very impressed. Ferguson is an amazing Jessica. I really hope they do Dune Messiah.
The scenes in arakis where filmed on earth. The dessert scenes were not cgi.

I'm gonna nerd out for a second. The reason that they don't use lasers when shields are present, is because if a laser comes into contact with a shield, then basically a nuclear explosion happens. So it would have potentially killed everyone if they had started with lasers on the spice miners
