Historically, Margarita "Peggy" Schuyler was fairly insignificant. Basically, she got married to a rich land-owner, pumped out a bunch of kids, and died of Scarlet Fever in 1801 with little else of note to her name. She'd likely have been utterly forgotten had Lin Manuel-Miranda included her as one of the three Schuyler sisters in the play (there were actually five of them, not three, and Miranda could have just as easily chosen Cornelia or Catherine to be the "third" sister instead of Peggy).
@buggymah that's another reason Hamilton works: Alexander is an energetic genius try-hard. Lin might not be the best singer here but he is the perfect energetic genius try-hard to play the role.
The foreshadowing in Hamilton is insane. After Burr said "Fools who run their mouths off wind up dead." And then Laurens was the first one after him to sing. Later in the film, Laurens is the first one to die.

From Burr's perspective, he sees Hamilton basically coming out of nowhere and doing what he sees as political superhero shit. He's super young, like only early 20s. Johnathan Groff played King George. He only appeared for 9 minutes in the play, but was nominated for a Tony Award. King George had a history of madness.

Just a little bit about one thing you got wrong at 8:30 (Disclaimer, I'm not an historian and I got most of these facts from comments on other Hamilton videos so I might be wrong on some detail.) The revolution is not to end slavery, it's about independence from the British Empire. Civil war between the orth and the South, which was all about ending slavery (and of course politics) happened later. Everyone here had slaves, Washington had slaves (and freed his slaves at his death), Philip Schuyler had slaves, Hamilton had slaves. Only John Laurens was an abolitionist and Hamilton I think wrote something about the opportunity to end slavery, while Washington certainly did so, but he thought ending slavery would cause a rift between the North and the South so he thought it unwise to open that rift at this point in time (in the musical, during Yorktown, he says "not yet"). I think the Hamilton in this music is presented as a little more abolitionist than he really was according to historical sources. 16:32 Washington is defending New York, the English troops are invading, and they deployed some cannons in the Battery (southern Manhattan point) to support their invasion. Hamilton's squad conquered the place back and fired them towards other English troops. The Engliish subsequently pushed the revolutionaries out of Manhattan.
It's debated by historians whether Hamilton owned slaves directly (though he was absolutely connected to plenty of slave owners). Also fun fact, his relationship with Laurens was possibly a little 💅 They wrote to each other often and lamented not being able to share a bed together.
A relationship that I wish had been a little more explored in this play is Washington and Lafayette. Lafayette was an extremely wealthy orphan from France, whose father had died fighting the British so when he heard about America's revolution, he believed in the ideals and came over immediately basically begging them to let him fight the British. He was only about 19. And it said that when he and George Washington met, it was sort of like love at first sight, but not in a homosexual way It was like Lafayette saw this elegant, eloquent general that appeared to be everything he could've hoped for in a father. And Washington saw this incredibly smart and talented young man who was almost like everything he could've pictured in the son that HE never had. They were tight in an almost fatherly-son type relationship, that washington's home had a guest room specifically designated for Lafayette with a huge picture of him. And when Lafayette became a father, he named his first son George Washington. Lafayette may have been just a young guy at the beginning of the war, but he was an extremely talented general and definitely we could not of won the war without him not only with his talent on the field, but also his wealthy connections in France got us a lot of aid and support.

Hamilton wasn't Washington's second in command. He was his personal secretary, which was a very important job just like it is today for people who are very busy and carry a lot of responsibility. Washington didn't promote Hamilton to a field command because he felt Hamilton could do the most/best for the war effort by continuing to help Washington oversee everything. The two really understood each other and Hamilton actually wrote a lot of Washington's correspondence. In the scene where Washington steps down from the Presidency, the speech starts in Hamilton's voice and blends into both men speaking, and ends with Washington, because historians are not clear how much was written by Washington and how much by Hamilton.

In life, Angelica was already married when she met Alexander. She and her husband, John Church, were both very good friends with him. Alexander was flirty with everyone. There were rumors about him and Peggy, Angelica, John Laurens, just everyone.
FUN FACT!!: There is a LOTTTT of foreshadowing in this musical for example, in 'My shot' when burr says "fools who run their mouth off wind up dead" and the next person to sing was John Laurens, who ends up passing away. Another example, in the song 'Take a break" Hamilton says "Macbeth" which people say if someone says macbeth in theatre things will go wrong with the act. After Hamilton says it his life goes down hill!!
Fun fact! the guy who played Lafyette/ Jefferson (daveed diggs) had never done musical theatre before and Lin manuel miranda (hamilton) wrote the part for him!

By next month, I will have seen Hamilton live a total of ten times in my life. It is so cool to see your genuine reaction to this amazing show. You catch the good stuff. Awesome reaction video!!
You are doing a great job of following all the plot points and characters!! Enjoying your take on everything. To clarify one item in Act 1, Hamilton is George Washington’s Secretary not second his in command. But that position is considered his “right hand man.” Hamilton wants to have his own command leading actual troops into battle so he can make a name for himself in the fight against the British but you have to remember he’s very young still at this point, just out of college (maybe 18-19). Washington sees the great promise in young Hamilton so by allowing him to be his secretary Hamilton gets a front seat to the goings on of the war and can help with Washington’s campaign against the British succeed. And Hamilton is considered his right hand man because he is an excellent writer (Secretary) who’s power of persuasion and organization is almost unmatched and that is very valuable to Washington’s efforts to strategize and fight off the British Troops while simultaneously keeping the support of the revolutionary rebels who are attempting to break free from the Kings rule in order to govern themselves. The characters in this play basically created the USA from scratch but in order to do so they had to first be independent from British rule 🎉
King George III had schizophrenia and most of the decisions to attack the colonies during the American Revolution came from Parliament (basically Britain's government) so King George III would have a moment where he didn't know what was going on, then to being angry, then to being sad that he was being mean to the colonists but the colonists were actually so mean to him, which he wasn't the best king but still, lol. The Schuyler's were the richest and most prominent family in all of New York, everyone in the colonies and a lot of people from Britain knew who they were. Philip Schuyler (the Schuyler sister's father) was a General during the Revolutionary War and worked closely with George Washington, it has been said that George Washington and Alexander Hamilton went to the Schuyler's home before to discuss things about the war with General Philip Schuyler so Elizabeth had met Hamilton before the Winter's Ball, Philip Schuyler married Catherine Van Rensselaer and they had a total of 15 children, only 8 making it to adulthood including Angelica, Elizabeth, and Margarita (Peggy). The Winter of 1779-1780 the Schuyler sisters were actually staying with their aunt and uncle (their uncle was the doctor of the Continental Army) and they were invited to all of these balls which were actually called subscription balls that were held by the continental army during that treacherous winter. Angelica was the oldest out of all of the children and Elizabeth was the second born child, so when Angelica met Alexander she gave him up for Elizabeth because she was the oldest so she had to marry rich, because she needed to climb the social ladder and set an example for the rest of her siblings, that being said she married John Barker Church in 1777 who was a very wealthy English businessman who was a supplier of the Continental Army. Since the war was over, Angelica and John moved to England, hence why she said "don't forget to write." Also, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr were never actually friends, they kinda just tolerated each other and worked together a bit, so Aaron Burr had no issue exposing Hamilton for anything that Burr heard. Sorry that was a lot but I have way more that I'm going to yap about in part 2.

This is about the American Revolution in 1700s. America was still a British colony and the revolution war was to gain independence from the British Empire. George Washington became the first president of the US, and many of the other men are known as “Founding Fathers”, including Hamilton. The war to end slavery was in the late 1800s, and it was a civil war inside America.
Just finished a Hadestown reaction by you and i wasnt sure yet....but watching you watch this is awesome! Thank you for paying attention and trying to gather info when there is so much happening at once. Great reaction!❤
28:59 No. But you know what's crazy? They kiss 3 times every show and they do 8 shows a week meaning they kiss 24 times a week. I bet Lin kissed Phillipa more times than his wife some weeks.
I've seen this musical so many times when it had come out and I only now see a funny little thing with the opening song. When you see the Schuyler sisters each sing "I loved him" you could interpret it as all three of the sisters being into him at one point. BUT since Peggy's actress ALSO plays as Ms. Mariah Reynolds it's a lowkey nod to his infidelity in the future. It's been so many years and I JUST got that lmaoo
Hamilton saying “if you stand for nothing, Burr, what’ll you fall for?” was actually a paraphrase of something that Hamilton wrote in an essay to persuade Colonists to ratify the American Constitution. The actual quote is “if you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything” (this is my favorite quote of any founding fathers, so I was happy it was put in the musical)
Yes! I love the Stage show terminologies that Lin sneaks into his shows. My favorite in this show is “(enter me), he says in parentheses”. My favorite overall is “lights up” when the lights go up in the opening of “In the Heights”. The “In the Heights one fits parallel with “waiting in the wings for you” because several actors are waiting in the wings when that line is sung.
Fun Fact: King George actually spit a lot when he was talking so Johnthon Goff (I think that’s his name) is the actor so he thought he would add that detail.
Just so you understand back then the main form of communication was letters so it was not odd for Angelica to say to Hamilton to remember to write. They are brother and sister in law. In real life they most likely did not have any affair. They did write some rather affectionate letters but that’s about it. Angelica was already married when she first met Hamilton and was in England with her husband for the majority of Eliza and Hamilton marriage. Eliza and Hamilton had eight children total.
Whenever the stage rotates clockwise, it represents change and advancement. When it rotates counterclockwise, it represents conflict and stubbornness. Also, the background gets slowly built throughout the play, representing the building of a new nation.
I recently saw the show live, not the og cast obvi but all the actors and actresses were so good, teared up at the end of Stay Alive Reprise and got goosies from Satisfied (I was in the first row of the dress circle)
Lee was 2nd in command because Hamilton said he didnt want to be sexond in command since he would have to write instead of fighting which is what he wanted to do
This isn't at all an angry correction--you did a great job at piecing things together from a very lyrically dense show, and I just really like talking about history! In Right Hand Man (George Washington's first number), Hamilton is appointed as Washington's chief aide, which did come with an officer's rank but not one as high as being second in command of the whole Continental Army. There were lots of other generals and lower-ranking officers who were under Washington--Lafayette was appointed as a major general at 19! Also in Right Hand Man, they're trying to defend New York (and later New Jersey) against a British invasion. The Continental Army failed to defend Manhattan and was forced further upstate. What we think of now as New York City was almost entirely under British control for most of the Revolutionary War!
If you enjoy the rap in this i suggest looking up Freestyle Love Supreme. It was started by Lin (Hamilton), Chris Jackson(Washington), Daveed Diggs(Lafayette/Jefferson) and several others when they were in college. Look for video with the OGs. The group is still around but obviously after this the OGs blew up and only periodically get back back to perform.

also a non-american here who used to listen to hamilton on loop 😅 and same i didnt even know who Hamilton was, but i did recognize names like George Washington and knew the broad strokes of that part of their history (ie. separating from Britain)
you're doing good. it's always a joy to see your reactions 👍
thank you soo sooo muchh!!
Don’t worry man, most Americans also didn’t really know who Hamilton was aside from the dude on the $5 bill before this musical.
As a Canadian who does the same thing, I swear I wish I lived in America just to crush that exam lol (Canadian history is so boring :/)
@@PencilKing21
Hamilton's on the $10. Lincoln is on the $5. Lol.
@@elbrucesoh yeah lmao. I wrote that while I was tired as fuck
31:48 He actually survived the war, and helped the french revolution!
(During the American Revolution he got shot in the leg, he refuesed to give in until blood was filling his boot)
okay since no one has said anything yet i’ll try to explain angelica and hamiltons relationship. historically they were close and this is also represented in the play. you’ll see more about this in the next act. yes, she has a husband, and yes she still asks him to write 😂…. complicated lol
It's like, even though Eliza was his emotional and physical mate, she was his intellectual mate. They were capable of having conversations that Eliza couldn't even follow.
Angelica saying she now has a husband:
Mans: Are they together!?!?!??!
right???
Lin had a very young little boy at the time and Leslie had a very young little girl. So in a moment of art imitating life Dear Theodosia went very deep for both actors
Great Reaction.🤞 That you were familiar with “dual casting” on stage (the same actors taking on different roles in one show) before recording part 2. With Hamilton I always think “duel casting” is a better fit though, lol.
the correct term is "multi-roling" but yes, Hamilton is a really good example of effective multi-roling
@@evahjacobs2613 I always heard multi rolling, dual casting and double casting were all interchangeable terms for it? I chose dual casting because of my corny joke. I know I have heard multi rolling is a more popular terminology in the UK, but I’m not whether or not that is true.
@@reneebush2399 ahhhhh okay okay...well i took theatre arts in high school and my teacher told us the term was multi-roling (im from the Caribbean😂)....i did however look it up and i saw "double casting" but the definition for that is what we call "split roling" (when multiple actors play a singular character in a production)
Yeah, dual casting only shows up on the front page of google if you type in “dual casting theatre”. Searching dual casting by itself gets you a bunch of Skyrim dual casting card links as the top results. lol.
Shy Guy: Burr and Hamilton are gonna have a rivalry
Me: you don’t even know what’s about to happen
I actually looked up Washington's letter and it is very long.
“damn that suckssss” lol that part got me laughing 😂
LMAOOOO
It’s so funny bc lately I’ve been on a kick of watching reactors watch Hamilton and this got recommended to me and was posted 2 days ago. Just what I needed for a Monday 🥳 my algorithm is algorithming lol
Angelica got married and she wants Alexander to continue to write to her
In life, Angelica was already married when she met Alexander. She and her husband, John Church, were both very good friends with him.
Alexander was flirty with everyone. There were rumors about him and Peggy, Angelica, John Laurens, just everyone.
@@chellesama8256 so she really did forget her name when she met him, her husbands surNAME 🤣🤣
Incredible musical and cast, It's insane how talented, phenomenal everyone who worked on this. It's okay to ask questions cause I was thinking the same thing and that's how the story hooks you in and makes you curious! also personally I appreciate the pauses tbh cause there's so much details to digest even a few mins in and I can tell how invested you are, def gonna subscribe now!
By next month, I will have seen Hamilton live a total of ten times in my life. It is so cool to see your genuine reaction to this amazing show. You catch the good stuff. Awesome reaction video!!
16:55 dear lord
I came to the comments looking for this reaction 😂
Dear god, so wrong. lol.
lol it's fun learning what people from other countries think what happened to make America.
You are doing a great job of following all the plot points and characters!! Enjoying your take on everything.
To clarify one item in Act 1, Hamilton is George Washington’s Secretary not second his in command. But that position is considered his “right hand man.”
Hamilton wants to have his own command leading actual troops into battle so he can make a name for himself in the fight against the British but you have to remember he’s very young still at this point, just out of college (maybe 18-19).
Sorry that was a lot but I have way more that I'm going to yap about in part 2.
you are quickly becoming one of my favorite reactors!!! i believe you’re going to continue to get more and more popularity - i’m kinda proud i’m early here to see your channel grow. don’t forget me when you’re famous 😂 i was here at 1.74k
"The king can SING BROOOO"😂 BROOOOO THAT'S JONATHAN GROFFFFFFF😂😂😂 HE'S FRICKING INCREDIBLE😂
I like how u react to the things and the visuals u really try to understand what's happening Can't wait to watch more 😊
This is about the American Revolution in 1700s. America was still a British colony and the revolution war was to gain independence from the British Empire. George Washington became the first president of the US, and many of the other men are known as “Founding Fathers”, including Hamilton. The war to end slavery was in the late 1800s, and it was a civil war inside America.
Loved this!!!!!!! Can't wait for the second part! My aunt bought my mom and I tickets to see this on Broadway and mannnnnnn, it was amazing!!!!!!!
its my first time enjoying watching a full reaction video, i love the vibe bro!

Cool! I like long reaction videos! Keep it up for the other parts.
This is probably gonna be the first thing I watch when I wake up tmr
😘
Hamilton saying “if you stand for nothing, Burr, what’ll you fall for?” was actually a paraphrase of something that Hamilton wrote in an essay to persuade Colonists to ratify the American Constitution. The actual quote is “if you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything” (this is my favorite quote of any founding fathers, so I was happy it was put in the musical)
Fun fact: Jonathan Groff is the voice of Christof from frozen
Fun fact. The guy who plays the king is kristoff and Frozen.
I'm liking this in advance! It's late in Sydney and I'm gonna save this for tomorrow 🥰🤗
Lin said “this is a story about America then, by America told my now”
Loved this on patreon, plus the others you've watched since. Gonna be 🔥 when they get to youtube!

@@ShyGuyPlus mine too, I like watching the full reaction. And you've been putting up some good ones, without a long wait between them or anything 🥰
YESSS ALEXANDER HAMILTON WE ARE WAITING IN THE WINGS FOR U
Estaré esperando con ansias!!! Me encantan tus reacciones sobre los musicales :)) ❤
9:15 fun fact : Those two were in love irl so they wrote love letters and theres a ship name for them “Lams” so :>
17:25 “they’re gonna have a rivalry” well…yes!
Fun Fact: King George actually spit a lot when he was talking so Johnthon Goff (I think that’s his name) is the actor so he thought he would add that detail.
16:46 erm other way around man
I was just about to comment that exact same thing
I watch Hamilton with this level of excitement as if I haven’t seen it a hundred times. I’m bouta put it on now!
Before this musical, the most people knew about Hamilton was that he died in a duel and that he’s on the $10 bill
Me now thinking about an excuse too why I need to move my date too a different time just so I can watch this…
😅dkm lolll
Just so you understand back then the main form of communication was letters so it was not odd for Angelica to say to Hamilton to remember to write. They are brother and sister in law.
In real life they most likely did not have any affair. They did write some rather affectionate letters but that’s about it. Angelica was already married when she first met Hamilton and was in England with her husband for the majority of Eliza and Hamilton marriage. Eliza and Hamilton had eight children total.
Duel casting can be a bit confusing. They do a good job with it. It’s also done in “ Come from Away”. Another true story musical.
“They’re gonna talk now?” Oh buddy…
Love you loving this! 🙌🙌🥰
17:25 it's so wild how this guy keeps guessing everything
Lee was 2nd in command because Hamilton said he didnt want to be sexond in command since he would have to write instead of fighting which is what he wanted to do
I just watched Hamilton for the first time the other day and I love Peggy, too! 🤣 Peggy is a really cute name. 💞
The drool at 13:38 my man is either SO hydrated or he just produces extra saliva... either way it's probably a sign that he's talented
Such a great modern musical to introduce you to other musicals and this medium.
The king can def sing. Groff is ridiculously talented
“Oh shi I spilled” *goes back to dancing*
Funnest reaction ever im not even glazing lowky love this guy 🔥

If you enjoy the rap in this i suggest looking up Freestyle Love Supreme. It was started by Lin (Hamilton), Chris Jackson(Washington), Daveed Diggs(Lafayette/Jefferson) and several others when they were in college. Look for video with the OGs. The group is still around but obviously after this the OGs blew up and only periodically get back back to perform.
