RIchard Chamberlain is the most handsome, kind, intelligent, noble and friendly person ever! We've talked about 20 min in his closet of The Virginia Theater backstage, Broadway in the evening of the My Fair Lady preview in Nov.28, 1993. . When I left him, I had an impression that I met my old and very close friend. When I returned to my country, I sent him a letter with the address of Virginia THeatre and later on I received a very sweet letter from Richard with his handwriting. Long happy live to my friend Richard Chamberlain!!!
When I think of beauty and talent I visualize Richard Chamberlain! Enjoy a video clip with some of his most stunning photos created for the special New Year's Page of the Richard Chamberlain Webbiography.
Funny for Chamberlain to say he was not a stage actor. After Kildare he went to England to hone his stage chops and returned as great classical American actor. In my student days saw him in Richard II, Cyrano, Night of the Iguana . Later I worked on set crew for a production of Thomas Babe's Fathers and Sons where he played Wild Bill Hickok and Dixie Carter played Calamity Jane. He sought out every crew member to say what a great job we were doing.
"Do you work as a team?" The answer should have been a flat out no. They are two actors, working on the same show. John Daly practically told them they're working together on something now. They are not a team. Joey was right to question that.
Not exactly, 5 months ago another viewer wrote : "Mr Massey was originally from Canada (and part of the family that ran the Massey-Ferguson farm implement co.)." Cheers Canada!
At the end, they were talking about the original "Dr. Kildare" series of movies with Lew Ayres in the title roll and Lionel Barrymore as Dr. Gillespie.
I'd read that for mystery guests, they were paid an appearance fee regardless of how much they won on the program; their on-screen winnings would sometimes be donated to charity.
Raymond Massey was NOT English as was implied by a panel question. He was from a very dinstinguished family from Canada. Nobody here or on the panel (or Daly) picked up on that!! C'mon Canadien viewers, be proud!!
My comment: "Couldn't agree more!!! It is precisely what the Richard Chamberlain Webbiography has kept away from." was meant in answer to the following one: "I hate it when people say "Dick Chamberlain" and "Chuck Heston" like they were bosom pals. Actors in the UK say "Larry Olivier". It sounds so pretentious."
Ethan John Mr. Joey Bishop made the remark to which you are referring, apparently. He lived a long life. In his old age, he revealed that he had known decades earlier that a lot of people were LGBTQ. Mr. Bishop performed in Las Vegas many times. So did Liberace. Mr. Bishop possibly knew he was gay. If he did, he refrained from commenting during Liberace’s lifetime. Commenting would have hurt his reputation as a Vegas lounge performer who made people laugh despite gambling losses.
Dorothy Kilgallen obvioulsy didn't know Richard Chamberlain was gay. He was yummy ... but then that statement applies to a lot of gay guys. WHY ARE ALL THE GOOD-LOOKERS GAY?
jo egleton Your comment doesn’t make any sense. The blindfolded Dorothy Kilgallen didn’t know who the mystery guest was or were, so how could she know the sexual preference(s) of the guest(s)? How could she know if the word “yummy” was appropriate? Ditto for Arlene Francis. She was clueless about the guests’ identities until Joey Bishop identified them.
I hate it when people say "Dick Chamberlain" and "Chuck Heston" like they were bosom pals. Actors in the UK say "Larry Olivier". It sounds so pretentious.
I can't help being a little embarrassed by the $5 to $50 placards in these clips. Granted $50 meant a lot more back in the early 60's, but not THAT much more. Does anyone know if these guests actually won these funds or was that just more of a scoring system? Surely they got an honorarium instead.
DAM FLA All the panelists were blindfolded. When Joey Bishop made his provocative remark, the mystery guests could have been anyone, such as Andy Griffith and Don Knotts.
From the sound of their voices they better not be married .Little did the panel know that Richard Chamberlane for all the love scenes he's been in with ladies. couldn't be more uninterested in romance with females All.the time he was interested only in men as far as romance goes
valium2able Arlene Francis and Dorothy Kilgallen didn’t know the information to which you are referring when they saw a photo of Richard Chanberlain in a newspaper or magazine. How could they know it when they were blindfolded?

Всемирный красавец, да ещё талантливый.

Richard Chamberlain's father wrote a book that had a profound influence on my life. Thank you Charles Chamberlain.
The book is a "A New Pair of Glasses".
Back then it was all the rage to go and buy a Dr. Kildare shirt which my parents did buy for me.
I had one when I was in kindergarten with a little red caduceus symbol.
I had a bobblehead,. Books paper doll and records.
Richard...😍😍😍❤
Sympathetic and funny!!!! lovely man!!!! For ever
This is great. Thank you!

Actually,at 4:59 when Arlene Francis misidentifies Raymond Massey as English she almost instantly corrects herself and says "Canadian".
I remember this episode. Don't figure out my age, LOLOLOLOL.
Actors in the UK say "Larry Olivier" because that's what he asked them to call him. "Sir Laurence" or "Lord Olivier" would have been pretentious.
This is July 29, 1962.
Actually I would like to have it been Casey and Kildare.
I'd read that for mystery guests, they were paid an appearance fee regardless of how much they won on the program; their on-screen winnings would sometimes be donated to charity.

@xander7ful richard chamberlain and raymond massey played the roles of dr. kildare and dr. gillespie in a 60's tv series. hence the presentation
You are most welcome!
The man is GAY. poor lady probably had no idea
Some of the ones who say "Larry" never even met him.
My comment:
"Couldn't agree more!!! It is precisely what the Richard Chamberlain Webbiography has kept away from."
was meant in answer to the following one:
"I hate it when people say "Dick Chamberlain" and "Chuck Heston" like they were bosom pals. Actors in the UK say "Larry Olivier". It sounds so pretentious."
the "they better not be married" joke now seems innapropriate since chamberline is gay.
Shows how much the world has changed in 50+ years.

It's interesting to me watching these old TV shows how the men stand when introduced to guests while the women stay seated.
Yes the formalities of social etiquette - long gone today.😰

@@kelloggs5473 Calm down - they're all dead now anyway
Richard Chamberlain is still alive at 88
6:09 lol, "I got a big kick, dick"
He doesn't look gay at all.
D’Ascoyne Neither does Bennett Cerf. He looks nerdy.
I hate it when people say "Dick Chamberlain" and "Chuck Heston" like they were bosom pals. Actors in the UK say "Larry Olivier". It sounds so pretentious.
The second man looks like Raymond Massey. Why is he called Dr. Gillespie?
That is the character he played...
what is your comment referring to?

Funny how the comments leaned toward gay at 2:30
