This video is so much more precious now, seeing as I'm watching this just about 3 weeks after Sean Connery's death. I'm 17 and I've always loved the Bond films, ever since I was maybe 6 years old. The first one I ever watched was Dr. No, even though nowadays you wouldn't expect a kid to pay much attention to the older ones, just the action packed new ones (which I still love). My point is that even when I was a 6 year old, just 11 years ago, Connery's Bond films still captivated me even though some people might consider them outdated compared to what we see now with these new blockbusters. Connery was the one who set the bar for what 007 was supposed to be; even though others followed with sometimes excellent portrayals of a spy, Sean's characterization will always remain what everyone from that generation of movie viewers believe to be the 'true', somewhat larger than life spy. In reality, no person who had gained noteriety in the field could ever work undercover. But the movies were entertainment, and terrific his movies were, every one. "The Hill" is a masterpiece. Strongly recommended. Especially if you're a Connery fan, because that film gave him more of an opportunity to show the true depth of his acting ability than any of the Bond films did. A truly brilliant performance. The rest of the cast was perfect, too.

It seems that he hated being type-cast as Bond and wanted to carry on playing other parts (as he had been doing from the mid-'50s up to 1962/63). When he got the chance, he did quite well (in pictures like "The Hill").

Not the only reason naturally, but i think the lack of constant flow of entertainment made people to read much more, that does wonders for one's vocabulary.
I think it has more to do with the prominence of radio. Radio shows were "the thing" until Television started becoming common in the 50s/60s. All the starts/celebrities for television came from radio, and since radio was voice only, there was an emphasis on articulation and delivery. Your run of the mill, lower/middle class workers were just as articulate as today's.

May I be the first to comment on this amazing video, you are one of the finest men that Scotland has ever raised. RIP Thomas.
I didnt know Sean Connery could mimic his voice so well
It's great to see Sean Connery doing something that isn't serious. He knew how to have fun.
Awesome show. Wish they made good and classy entertainment like this today. R.I.P. James Bond, you’ll be missed.
To be Sean Connery...even for a month back in the early sixtys...more fun than most guys have in a lifetime..
"The Hill" is a masterpiece. Strongly recommended. Especially if you're a Connery fan, because that film gave him more of an opportunity to show the true depth of his acting ability than any of the Bond films did. A truly brilliant performance. The rest of the cast was perfect, too.
I can’t recall the name of the movie he played Duke, a thief who came down a chimney or something
@@dinahbrown902 The Anderson Tapes (1971)
@@dinahbrown902 "The Anderson Tapes". Ralph Meeker is in it too, so although they hadn´t worked together at the time this show was made, they did five years later.
@@probyful Thanks 👍
The Hill is interesting in that the cast are all males - you only see one woman briefly at the beginning (the commanding officers whore)
2:52 "All I know is Sean Connery." "No..." XD
I don't think anyone else caught that.
That was also my favorite line
@Dhi Mancini me tii
How would she know that without cheating?, somebody told her.
@@stevejacobs4246 Because when big celebrities would come to town for filming or premieres it was big news written about in the newspapers of the day. The first person on the panel, Dorothy Kilgallen, was showbiz columnist for the New York Times or one of the other major papers back then. It appears she thought that answer too simple though.
His nine expressions in the moment after he takes his seat - awesome!! That was his whole repertoire of Bond expressions right there!
He was a great actor... Not only for James bond but also for the rock, entrapment & the untouchables...
RIP we've lost greatness and he is the best Bond.
It seems that he hated being type-cast as Bond and wanted to carry on playing other parts (as he had been doing from the mid-'50s up to 1962/63). When he got the chance, he did quite well (in pictures like "The Hill").
Old days people were so well behaved and well spoken
IM CRYING FROM SEAN'S VOICE OMG
kittycatbird, lol!
That man’s voice alone could send shivers throughout my entire body.
Man where are this kind of shows nowadays, feels so different and cool
RIP Sir Thomas Sean Connery (25 August 1930 - 31 October 2020)(aged 90) you will truly be missed and you're an amazing and talented actor.
Great to hear Sean Connery's real voice for a change.
Still in my book the best and handsome James Bond , número uno, wow
They sure don't make men like Sean Connery anymore!!! Best 007 ever!!!
A prime Connery makes today's celebrities look like a joke.
Because they are a joke.
@@moisespolicart2732 yep. Laughing at them. Not with them.
There's a few.
Sean is quite the rare celebrity though. Not many celebs can compete with his raw masculinity and charisma.
@@redbetta2191 it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
Total class.....does not exist anymore.
I watched this Oct. 30. 2020. The next day he passes. Thank you 007 Sean Connery!
Great actor and accent! ♥
Both THE HILL and A FINE MADNESS are fine, fine films. Connery, as you would expect, was excellent in each.
He spoke of a recent film he was in, "The Hill". It's a very good one.
The Hill is such a mental film..its scary
@@mercian7 My father was in one of those places in N.Africa for refusing to take part in the invasion of Europe/Italy lol it was a trumped up charge he hadn't refused. A friend with him told me they were ordered to run around the parade ground with their rifles above their heads he did one lap and said, bugger this for a game of soldiers threw it and sat down, they couldn't make him stand up. He was in the first boat ashore in the Salerno landing. He was blown up/knocked out by a german artillery shell, shot twice on seperate occassions, captured in Italy escaped from Germany into Slovakia betrayed re captured and got away again to his own lines. He was in the Scots Gd's. I was told the film,The Hill was realistic and it was just like that. I enjoyed the film seen it a few times over the years.
@@johnmc128 He was a tough b..trd then. My Grandfather was a RSM who fought in France, Mentioned in Despatches..he was not a nice man..but he loved us in his own way.
@@mercian7 Not a nice man but he loved you, war effects people in different ways. My father lol Yes he was, never changed, a good man too.
Sean Connery was & Will always be the BEST & the GREATEST 007 in Bond Film History. The Other 007's were Good, But Sean will always be the 1st to don the 007 insignia & to EXCITE Movie Audiences everywhere.
The Hill, one of Connery's best movies!
Love hearing Mr. Connery speak.
"From Russia with Love" is still my favorite Bond film.
Sean Connery's as well.
Goldfinger.
People were so much more eloquent and polite back then.
Not the only reason naturally, but i think the lack of constant flow of entertainment made people to read much more, that does wonders for one's vocabulary.
On television at least.
What has become of civility and manners and kindness in America? How America has fallen
Back in the day's when people went to fucking charm school and learned cursive writing.
The Hill was, in my opinion, Sean's best performance....haven't seen it?.........get the DVD pronto! Sean Connery: matchless, unequalled, the man we all wanted to be.....RIP.
Best disguised voice I’ve heard on WML. 👍👌
