if you ever tried SC on an OLED you would know why people are upset about the murky green. Previously with the proper blacks everything was popping out spectacularly on OLEDs, especially planets and atmospheres. Hard to describe, but the perfect blacks are not just for some crazy specific person -- they enable a contrast for everything else to come alive.
I have not played since 3.22, but then every light in my cockpit was too bright, crashed so many times trying to land at night. I have taken a break until over christmas i think, I sure hope they have toned down the Green stuff by then.
So you are saying all these people who are complaining have OLEDs? Then we have nothing to worry about cause that can only be like 0.01% of the playerbase.
@@j.d.4697 nope, that's not what I am saying, that's just the most extreme case of difference. plenty to be annoyed about on IPS panels when the space is a green fog too.
@@j.d.4697 I run on IPS screens and it also looks awful to me. Now Orison is no longer unique in being "in the clouds", every station is in the clouds now.
I have a ton of recorded gameplay that goes way back. The darkness of space in the old recordings give that eerie cold feeling of space and when you arrived at a far out location it was cool that it changed to a hazing green like background because the location of space port was in a nebula, asteroid field etc. It was OK but making all of space the green hazy look sucks to be honest.
For the Skybox, the specific reason why it bothers me is how overtly green it is. It feels so cloudy vs open space. It just needs toned down a bit, imo.
I think this is a call back to how Freelancer's systems skyboxes were, every system had a unique skybox that allowed the game to feel like you were actually traversing the stars when you jumped from one system to the next it was pretty cool. I think it's going to be one of those things where we have to sit and let things play out, given that things are kind of greenish I will expect that Staton's system is either surrounded by, or located near a greenish nebula, this could mean in the future that perhaps even from Pyro you will see a greenish-like origin point for Stanton
It feels what? Cloudy vs open space? What does that mean? There are clouds in open space too. Do clouds make it closed space to you? I still don't get it.
No need for speculation on reasons for the change. Nicou-CIG said on the 30th on Spectrum that the change had been made to "give a better read to ships in space". They also said "Because we had so much blackness in the skybox, in many lighting conditions, ships would become almost invisible, which made making out structures and other ships very difficult. With a skybox containing more ambient color, ships will have much stronger silhouettes against the backdrop of space. It was also to lend Stanton as a system a more unique identity, especially as we head towards 1.0 and more systems come online". Also followed it up with the standard "it's still a WiP" disclaimer.
I have been testing the cutty black tractor beam every PTU and LIVE update until recently, where I specifically thought "ahhh shadow patch notes will tell me if it is" and indeed, it is so. Thank you very much for these!
Great content, big fan, on the hangar size, it only affacted size when ships were bought BEFORE the patch. They were clear on this not being a case of ships bought AFTER
Still doesn't have to be the entire dang system. Would it not be enough at the L points and some spots in the distance? Cig said it was for "ship visibility"
Btw, noticed the asop saving your last spot thing also got added to the mobiglass vehicle tab. One you go back to the vehicle list, you're still in the same spot.
In-game ships don't affect personal hangar size. But they affect the "staging hangar" size, as CIG call it, which is just a private but temporary hangar. The permanent personal hangar is only available at your hometown, the private staging hangar anywhere.
For the skybox issue, they should make it a certain part of stanton that has it but is visable from everywhere, so we can still have those nice true blacks but still have unique star system colors
We already had something like this - remember when they first added the Pyro Jump Point? It was in a cloud of orange/red/yellow and looked AWESOME. This system-wide green fog is ugly. and has all but ruined a vast majority of screenshot opportunities.
@@LeftJoystick i agree, if they needed they should have just made those clouds bigger. CiG is acting like Google… throw everything at the wall and see what sticks… year 12+…
woohooo cutlass tractor works! This is huge because they nerfed handheld tractor beams and it was painful trying to do hauling missions with them. Thanks for the shadow patchnotes roundup!
Also, salvage panels give about half the RMC they did previously. I believe they said a while ago that they were bugged and giving too much, but the correction was not announced.
As far as the hanger size goes. CIG has stated explicitly that when purchasing a new ship with in game money or real money that your personal hanger will not change size until the next soft reset. And then it will still only be based off of your real money ships. Any ships you have that are too large for your current personal hanger will be given a temporary instanced hanger like were given at our non-home locations. In short once out personal hanger size is set there is no changing it until the next soft reset. For those that don’t know a soft reset is what they do between patches when you have to recreate your character and all your ships get set to default loadouts.
Space is space regardless of the system. Green space is absurdly stupid and I see the repeating texture everywhere. If they want jump colors use the gas cloud…
Woo cuttie tractor beam works. Meanwhile, the whole universes god damn mainstay cargo workhorse, the C2 Hercules, STILL has no tractor beam what so ever. And not a single word from CIG on rectifying that crazy oversight.
You may already know this but you stated it in the video as a 'hope' so I will say it... CIG have confirmed that they are looking at converting all *ship* tractor beams to work the same as the ATLS. They did not mention multitools and MaxiLifts but I think that is fair as changing those as well would immediately make the ATLS redundant.
The msr needed a buff. But it needed a speed buff more than a shield buff. I'm mostly OK with the changes to the redeemer flying like a heavy fighter with 6 s2 shields... I can see the reason for dropping the turrets from s5's to s4's, but the s4 pilot guns should have been elevated to s5's in exchange.
Im down for the different skybox as it will help make each system feel unique, once we have more than one ! Though I agree it does make the game feel less realistic, but to me its not immersion breaking.
I also don't get why people are so mad at the green "skybox", if it even is a skybox. We have gas clouds in Stanton which IRL can obviously appear in different colors because they refract light passing through just like Earth's atmos phere does, which makes the sky appear blue and the white sun appear orange. And since those are IN Stanton, it might not be a skybox at all. But I think CIG are going for kind of an EVE approach here where one way to differentiate between regions in space is the background colors delivered by gas clouds.
what about the quantum spooling sound bug? everytime i left my ship to load it with cargo, the quantum drive was going crazy and spooling the whole time.

It'd be really cool if the Atlas movement automation becomes available for ship tractor beams as a ship computer shard
Feels like it should be standard equipment. Maybe not on the greycat mod, even the upsized handheld, but at least on any “anchored” beam.
that said they would give players the option in what tractor beams they wanted in the future on ships, it was in the Q&A on the ATLS
