Mike Tyson secured his place in the golden pages of boxing history by being, from an early age, an unstoppable knockout machine.
But did you know there was one fighter who left him trying to collect the last of his warrior spirit after a thunderous fall spilled him across the ring?
    Welcome.
In today's video I bring you a real bitter pill to swallow in Iron Mike's professional career.
I invite you to relive with me the night James Buster Douglas knocked him out in seconds.
Did you think it was impossible?
    Keep watching!
It was nineteen ninety, and Mike Tyson had to be at his best if he wanted to start a new decade of success on the right foot.
"James Buster Douglas" was not necessarily an unknown name in the discipline, but that didn't seem to credit him with enough power to be a real contender against a fighter of Tyson's stature.
Four days before the bout, the New York Times claimed that the only person capable of beating Tyson was himself by deciding not to enter the ring.
The rumor that the great Iron Mike was not surrounding himself with the most experienced cornermen caused controversy, but he was still expected to quickly subdue Buster Douglas.
Based on reports of his training in Tokyo, the press questioned whether the youngest heavyweight champion in history had begun to sabotage his own success.
The ONLY boxer to knock out Mike Tyson in SECONDS! This was UNREAL...

Doctor Ferdie Pacheco (of Ali Fame) described how to beat Tyson... described type of Boxer, Size and Skill Set needed. He did that about 4 or 5 months before his fight with Douglas. Tyson tried to hire Doctor Pacheco for his corner and the Doctor Declined because he was a knucklehead unable to follow directions and advice. Tyson went to that fight in Japan with a bunch of amateurs in his corner. Best Example.... they were using water balloons to combat swelling in the face!!! Flat metal plates were already used by those in the business. Pacheco said the one to beat Tyson will be a Nobody Larger than Tyson so the champ won't be able to push him around the ring, Light on his feet and will step on the ring with nothing to lose or care about the fight and will show No Fear!!! Very well done Doctor Pacheco!!!

2 points …..by this time Don King had separated Mike from Kevin Rooney and he no longer trained in the Cus D amoto way ( loads of head movement and punches in bunches) …as a indicator of how far he’d drifted Don King had put Richie Giachetti in charge of his training…Giachetti used to train Larry Holmes ….these 2 ( Tyson and Holmes) are the opposite in style and Tyson’s camp ( sycophants) had convinced him he was a one punch knock out fighter like big George and he wasn’t …..and

Just stop. Douglas had to get up before the count of 10. You saw him watching the ref count and easily got up at the count of 9. Had the count been faster, he would have gotten up quicker. Having grown up in the 70's watching Ali, Ken Norton, Ron Lyle, Frazier, Foreman, etc, my friends and I couldn't wait for the next great match. Shortly after boxing's glory days, King and others turned boxing into a joke. I've watched too many fights ruined by the judges who were either bought off or blind. To this day you'll see the worst calls in the sports history.

From my observation I believe Mike was weak and tired from the begining of the fight, it seems to me something was wrong with him, he shouldn't have taken up the fight the time he did, he wasn't fully ready for it, maybe because the money was good and he needed it and he decided to go ahead but it was a wrong decision, but all the same he remained to me one of the greatest boxers in the world of all times. I wish him well.

I saw this battle. Tyson lost after his wife dumped him. Tyson was going through some very difficult personal issues. He was morally depleted and it effected his performance.

NO excuses. Tyson was fighting hard, landed good haymakers with one of them downing Douglas. Douglas was the better man and earned his win against a fully game Tyson. Iron Mike fell like lead due to the superior fighting of Douglas.

SO I'M SURPRISED TO SEE THIS ABOUT TYSON, BUT EVERY SPORTS CHAMPION, ESPECIALLY bOXING,LOSES HIS CROWN , VERY FEW RETIRE STILL WITH HIS BELT OR CROWN, BUT MAYBE, NOT HIS MIND INTACT . IT USED TO DOMINATE THE SPORTING PAGES AND TV, bUT THAT WAS IN THE 80'S AND 90'S. BUT THEY CERTAINLY EARN THEIR MONEY.

Tyson had just fired his longtime trainer Kevin Rooney. He also seperated from his managers and started hard partying with unscrupulous folks who really led him down a wrong path. Tyson had a real problem with opponents who used lateral movement. Douglas presented the perfect fight against Tyson, using lateral movement, feinting and counterpunching while also being aggressive up front. Tyson fell. I wondered why nobody else used these tools against Tyson after the Douglas victory - probably Tyson learned a bit as well and didn't allow it. Tyson is surely one of the greatest heavyweights ever!
