Persona 5 - "The Days When My Mother Was There" Cover - Jam Session #3 // J-MUSIC Ensemble

- Опубликовано: 8 апр 2018
- Our first rehearsal of "The Days When My Mother Was There" (Futaba's Palace music) from Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5, composed by Shoji Meguro, and this version arranged by Khrys Williams.
We all can relate to Futaba in some way. However, if you can relate to her story in a more personal way, we dedicate this version to you. In addition to our very special guest, Ben Eunson on guitar, we also have a Futaba-perspective rap verse written by Khrys Williams.
Okay, staying inside and playing video games/browsing the internet all day is fun, but... take a break, ya know? Go outside, get some air, hang out with friends... check out J-MUSIC Persona 5 covers... proceed to re-enter the eternal cyberloop... Man, that sure is a big desert...
==============================
We hit it once again with this session! Although this one was a bit shorter, our 3rd Persona 5 session really brings some different feels as we explore some of the more emotional sides of this game's music. Don't worry though, there's still plenty of face-smashing solos and drum fills for you to indulge on. We love seeing your comments and suggestions! As always, thank you, everybody! :D

Ben Eunson (@beneunsonmusic) - Guitar

Khrys's Verse (as Futaba):
I was a kid
With no cares for what you went through during your bid
In the books; I know emotions spilled over the lid
And I wish I could take back all of the things that I did
All of the times I grew tired of being inside
All of the times I wanted more than what my mom could provide
If it meant that all the guilt and the pain wouldn't be harvested
I swear I'd take it back to whenever it all started, then
I'd stomach all the boredom I felt
And understand you had to take a lot of time for yourself
I'd promise I'd wait...make an effort to end my issues
Knowing that later on I'd get to spend time with you
Cuz now the only flashback in my head
Is the men in suits yelling "You're the reason she's dead"
And at the same time, I'm counting the days that I'm going to
Keep myself inside this room til I can join you
Away from everybody else
So I won't be the reason behind every single time they threw a fit
And people might forget I exist,
But when it comes to their life, at least they can't say I ruined it
It's not that I'm not able to stay calm
I just have nothing left from only wanting my mom
And if I joined you, would you see me as a nuisance?
Do I really have no room for improvement?
If both of us go where there's no ground beneath her
Does it mean that I'm no use in death either?
Is that how it's supposed to be where ever I arrive?
And would it be the same if my mom was alive
After her work? All I know is nothing compares
To the days when my mother was there
It's all my fault...
I miss the days when my mother was there
You left out "I'mma wait for the beat to come back around."
@@DreamlessSleepwalker You really, really nailed the feelings of loss and guilt. I could see Futaba saying all of this.
This lyric hits me right on the spot. You totally nailed Futaba’s feelings and inner turmoils!!
@@geegeegee7 Because Futaba was emotionally beat up with the loss of her parent.
I lost my dad last year, i was the last one to be with him and to see him alive, until this day I still feel the guilt to not being to do more for him, to not be with him, and in a way I was responsible from his departure. I first find this version in the live vid from the con, and as I heard the lyrics of the rap verse, they hit hard for me, and helped me to deal in a way whit that grief. Thanks a lot guys.
and after this there was no more "Looking coooool Joker" in my playtrough
lmao
"Oh joker, you're looking cool"
“Bonafide Mona-fide!”
GO QUEEN GO
I kinda miss it :(?
This is one of the best things I've ever heard. The emotions from the game... they've come back to me-
Whisper Toast Yes!! Exactly why we had to do this... And thank you so much for that, it seriously means a lot. Such a powerful statement we are certainly not worthy of!
You're quite welcome! I'll be looking at your videos and your new ones in the future.
Same here! It's almost unbelievable how music can do these things to us! Greetings from Brazil!
@@rafaelmendes714 eu que o diga cara, eu que sou músico viajo na melodia nessas horas. E quando é música boa como essa nem se fala!
Same here. Arguable my favorite song from the game so far. I just got to this palace and I fell in love with the song.
Futaba: “You know what I should add to my theme? Freeform Jazz. Make it more depressing.”
J-MUSIC Ensamble: “aight I gotchu”
that was S M O O O O O O O O O O O O O O T H
Man, oh man...listening to this on a rainy morning, on the train to work...gave me the good chills for reals.
When/if you put out an album of these tunes, I'm buying it and giving it endless play time.
That verse also got me right in the feels. Can't explain.
You guys are freakin' awesome, is all I'm saying. 👊
I'm definitely feeling the more emotional side of this jam session already. I really love the inclusion of that verse.
Favorite palace theme. Persona 5 already has an extremely unique and original identity, but man, this song oozed with originality.
I'm a strings guy and I want to comment on the bass and e-guitar. But all I can think of rn is..
THAT SNARE TONE IS SO SICK.
you noticed too?😂
This breaks my heart in the most wonderful way. I love it.
Now if only Atlus pays you and gets Lotus Juice to rap for you...
Awesome cover. Didn't expect the rap, but that was nice.
I request "Sweet" please! :D
After listening to this again after months I forgot just the amount of raw emotion and soul he puts into the saxophone. Truly a master piece!
If this version is featured in Royal.. sweetness
I just love that it sounds like the sax is crying
*sigh*...........i have no words, they cant describe what i feel about this, this song made cry remembering my mom. my head was got covered with the all the argues and fights that i had with her and this song, this song pulled away those memories and made think of the good time that i had with her, that made us bond back in the day and at that point i couldn't stop crying, i called my mom afterwards, talked to her and she was happy that i called. The only thing i can say is.....thank you, this what i just said might be pointless or irrelevant but i wanna thank you J-Music ensemble, for reminding me the days my mother was there and that she still is. ❤
Adam sent me here, cheers great work never even heard the original but love this version.
Phenomenal composition, as others have said this is one that you can only truly appreciate after knowing the story behind it, but the additional rap verse really fits in adding to the emotional side. The best out there.
5:43 even the sheet music couldn’t handle the music
Weather aside, hearing y'all play this at Sakura Sunday in Philly was nuts for me. I never thought I'd hear my favorite song from the game played LIVE and WELL unless I traveled to Japan for a Persona SoundBomb concert. Y'all are awesome. Imma definitely try to see you guys again. Maybe y'all could book a show at TooManyGames 2018? 👀👀👀
Another great piece guys, I love this song!
Mohmega Thanks so much man! 🙏🙏🙏
I listen to this version more than the original.
Why?
Because it raises the score of the original in every aspect.
I couldn't have even thought of making the song better I can't believe it could get THIS good.
Curry is free if we meet up.
I'm kinda low on cash but I can pull a Yusuke when I have to.
Its like you guys enhance the emotions already set for the song. Amazing!
This is the best Persona cover I've ever heard.
that rap segment was sublime.
Came here through Adam Neely's video. You guys are amazing talented! Y'all need to get more attention here on YT and other media. Wish I could watch you guys live. Greetings from Brazil
This gave me chills
I just found this song and it made me cry so much. Thank you for lighting up my night.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience. We're honored to have done that for you!
Once that rap starts the song has such a lovely groove, mad credit to the drummer for a clean beat and to everyone else!
The only word I can describe this with is amazing
I LOVE the improv the guitarist does. Goes so well with the somewhat empty space in the song. And it's beautiful to make words to this piece because the original instrumental perfectly encapsulates Futaba's nostalgia when her mother WAS still alive and the break with the rap; I think resembles the moment things started going wrong. And it's really nice. Also that sax and guitar arpeggios are beautiful.
All of a sudden everyone is posting this song! :D
Very cool AND live! Love it :)
VGmPeeta Thanks man! We just saw yours right after we uploaded ours, too! Haha. Yours is great, as well! 😄🙌
Thanks! ^^
still listening to this in 2023 babyyyy
Every time i listen to this I’m so filled with emotion. Its so beautiful. I get goosebumps and I want to cry. The feeling in each note and the rap verse is just so perfect. It embodies the feeling of guilt and grief over something that can’t be helped. Ahhh its just incredible and y’all are absolutely amazing
I listened to this 5 times in a row and I cry every single time when that damn bass solo comes in right after those painful verses. Loved it, so well written and wonderfully played!
Dude same. I come back to this every couple months and I still cry.
That verse was a great addition.
That Rap and Sax combo packs some emotional punch. Amazing job guya
The only kind of jam I put on my toast is this.
I cannot stop listening to this. This cover is just so fine 👌
i keep coming back to this every time my day goes sour lol, you guys made a masterpiece
No words. Absolutely amazing!
I love how well the song fits the palace. It’s ghostly, ancient yet technological, depressing, and lonely. And the name hits hard after learning Futaba’s backstory.
I'm now addicted to these Persona 5 jams. Thanks for the good tunes :)
yooo... i keep coming back to this cover! i love this cover so much
Wow this was amazing to watch. Keep up the good work guys!

you guys need the studio recordings you deserve, especially for this
I just got to this Palace And I'm amazed at how mellow yet melancholy this song is. What's even more amazing is your cover of it!
This was so beautiful at Silvana this week (that verse was such a surprise!)
Aeneas Hemphill Hey wow, thanks for being there! We had a fun time playing, and this song is always special for us to do in our sets recently 😄
Favorite P5 song and such a beautiful cover to it. Great work, guys this really was magical.
Y’ALL ARE INCREDIBLE
I still get goosebumps hearing this
I’m absolutely floored by the arrangement of this piece! Amazing. Emotional. Transcendent. I cannot wait for you guys to possibly do River in the Desert!
Maaaaaan, this made me replay the Futaba palace just to re-experience these amazing emotions. So well performed and that rap!! Shoji Meguro-san must be feel really proud while listening to this.

This is uber good! Thanks a bunch for doing this!
Just bought the album too. Keep it up guys!
legit brought a tear to my eye
This was honestly better than the original, atlus should have yall make music for their games as well. I've been listening to this cover non stop for like 4 months now!
wow im blown away, very moving
Espectacular!!! Muy buen cover
Beautiful best cover of game ost ever
i love this. the bass brings out so much more color and feeling to the song, and the rap verse doesn't feel forced, like it does in some rwby soundtracks for example. just like everything else, it feels like it belongs there. it's soothing and brings out so many feels. i don't know how much more i could ask for. THANK YOU FOR THIS!
An amazing job keep reaching to high heights my guys
The guitarist guy blasts crazy solos and acts like he's totally bored.
Great song, really enjoyed it.
Underrated channel
You guys are amazing. I am really looking forward to hearing your music in the future
Thank you, we appreciate it very much!
Wow, that was fantastic.
My god you guys have talent, amazing job
people like you guys really make me want to pursue this kind of thing, id love to do music solely for ost covers.
Same dude like I've never really had any interest in this stuff but it still makes me wanna learn how to play like just something ya know?
Please include this in your next album! Love this
MIND BLOWING!!!
Such an underrated group. No one does J-Jazz as well as you guys. It's a nice fresh take in a sea of piano, vocal, and violin/viola covers of anime and Japanese game music.
This is really really good
Awesome covers all around boys
this is the most epic cover ever
The music volume is dominating the rapper voice
