Best opening credits scene of 2014! When I saw this in theatres for the first time, I knew this was gonna be a good movie. Despite what most haters will say.
@@austintrousdale2397 Most of the critics was about Godzilla not being much in a Godzilla movie. He was there a lot, just the audience didn't get to see him that much. All they gave us were shots and scenes on tv, breaking news and stuff. Sure it's not what everyone expected, but this movie was more focused on the human characters. That's an issue in a monster movie, people want to see the titular monster and not some guy looking for his family. But overall it wasn't a bad movie, it was just different. Later movies fixed that. I still love this 2014 movie more than the later ones. Honestly don't know why. I seriously don't care that much about Ford Brody or his family (except Joe), but still love watching this movie a lot. Whatever the critics say.
I remember watching these opening credits for G14 and I got chills from listening to the music as well the historical footage of Godzilla when the Casto bravo Nuke tried to kill him. In my opinion, the Monsterverse has some of the best opening credits of any movie, combining historical footage with the fictional kaiju timeline, take notes marvel and DC.
A little historical knowledge makes this even better. This is heavily implied to be the infamous Castle Bravo nuclear test, which performed well over expectations and produced a blast of fifteen megatons. Godzilla didn't just tank a nuke, he tanked the most powerful nuke the US ever detonated (only three Soviet nuclear tests ever exceeded it). Fittingly (and tragically) the fallout from Castle Bravo led to the same tragedy that inspired the original Godzilla film.
My mom wanted to see this in theaters, and I could not have been less excited. I hate Godzilla movies and big dumb action movies. So when we sat down and this incredible titles started, I saw all the little flashes of lore and the changes in history happening, and the incredibly exciting music! I was all in, the movie kind of blew me away. I didn’t mind the lack of Godzilla scenes, and was completely engaged.
Have you seen the original Godzilla 1954 movie? I at least recommend giving the original movie a chance because it’s very serious in tone like this movie. Godzilla 1954 is free on RUclips with English subtitles
I want they re use this theme for the opening of Godzilla 2. I imagine showing ancients draws about dragons and pictures of medieval knights fighting dragons, then images of space, stars, planets, galaxies and a meteor aproching the earth....draws of Lovecraft's cosmic gods and in the end the metor crash on the earth and hear the classic Ghidorah's roar
Nice to see a proper Main Title-Scene in a modern movie for a change. I get the impression that these have really fallen out of use in the last decade or so.
If you pause at just the right moment at 0:32 The words Walter and White are the last to be high lighted on Cranston's credit 😅 very subtle and i love it!
1:36 I love how the cliche of using the _Baker_ shot, an atomic bomb test, from old sci-fi movies about atomic monsters manages to creep its way into this modern movie in a scene intended to replace the _Bravo_ shot, a hydrogen bomb test.
The reason Godzilla help to defend the planet from bigger threats and saves mankind is cause he is thanking us for giving him a radiation bust when they nuked him all the way back in the 1900s
Sure, just because people fed him, he's protecting the planet? Yea, serious logic. He is an apex predator, he hunts the MUTOs, because they are his prey, not because some people threw a (food) bomb at him back in the fifties.
Words can not express how much i love this intro. The buildup when Godzilla was spotted, then the countdown for the bomb, then its dentanation, then bomb's debree covering the screen, and then the final moment: the faint sound of civilians screaming, and then the title card fades in... Perfection
The thing I love about those little blurbs that appear and then immediately get censored during the opening credits is that not only are they world-building and very intriguing, but some of them are also kinda hilarious. “Evidence show that it is likely the creatures will come back with David Strathairn’s head.” “Richard T. Jones has claimed unique knowledge of the creature’s odd mating habits with CJ Adams.”
Too bad the newer Monsterverse movies don't follow G14 tone anymore. Not that Skull Island or KOTM were bad, but I miss the more serious and grounded feel of G14.
Tbh, if the newer films had the realism and more gritty tone of this film, then the fights would not only be way worse in comparison, but the monsters may not have been done justice. The way they are handled in the later films is genuinely better then how Godzilla is treated in terms of screen time. Eric Carter even said that this film had bad pacing due to it being so slow, and focusing far too much on the blandly written human characters. GvK does actually have the better pacing of the Mosnterverse films as well, given how we actually get what we want to see instead of being forced to watch the annoyingly awful human characters take up most of the runtime of the film.
@@OptimusPrime-wq3nz he didn't, he just made a love letter to the entire Godzilla franchise whilst keeping some elements from Godzilla 2014, but with improvements.
The cinematography in the later films are so much less interesting than in this one. The shot of Godzilla emerging from the ocean in Hawaii is the best kaiju sequence ever filmed... it actually made Godzilla feel like an enormous force of nature. With the floaty artificial camera work in the newer films you wouldn't ever have noticed that Godzilla is actually larger in the new films because the way they're shot don't do it justice.
I loved this movie. When me and my two mates went, one of their girlfriends joined us. The scene at the nuclear plant where his wife is locked and sealed in the radioactive steam she teared up a little but later on when Godzilla did his roar in Hawaii we all got goosebumps and it made us get all warm lol

I love the Opening titles of this movie and I’ve been a movie fan for nearly 60 years. The images are so evocative and so convincing I get goosebumps every time I hear that fantastic theme. Only ONE criticism. As the countdown commences you see the bomb and a bunch of helicopters beating a retreat. They are shown so close to the Monster Bomb they would all have been vaporised !!! However, love it, my Number 1 opening sequence….tells the story nicely.
I grew up watching Godzilla since I was 5 years old watching most of the Godzilla movies from 1954 to 2004 (I’ve now watched every Godzilla film) when they teaser came out I got so pumped and excited. Best opening credits scene of 2014! When I saw this in theatres for the first time, I knew this was gonna be a good movie. Despite what most haters will say.
Even sliced bread has haters... the sense I get from most fans and critics was that this movie did right by the title character.
I think Ishiro Honda (The Director of the Original 1954 Godzilla) Love this movie if he was still alive
I miss the 2014 themes...
I think they should keep it as the monster ver. one
not just reuse and reuse the same old japanese one
Wow, those islanders lived in the presence of a living god. What an honor....
Just like in the original Gojira.
Shin Godzilla, God of Misery and Devastation
Godzilla 1954, God of Tragedy and Wrath.
Godzilla 2014, what kind of God is he????????????
the god that smite those who are unholy.
nope, Kong is King, Kong is God
Dark Masquerade no he can't
A little historical knowledge makes this even better. This is heavily implied to be the infamous Castle Bravo nuclear test, which performed well over expectations and produced a blast of fifteen megatons. Godzilla didn't just tank a nuke, he tanked the most powerful nuke the US ever detonated (only three Soviet nuclear tests ever exceeded it).
Fittingly (and tragically) the fallout from Castle Bravo led to the same tragedy that inspired the original Godzilla film.
If I remember correctly, the incident of castle bravo fallout was lucky dragon number nine
This and the HALO jump scene were my two favorite parts of the movie, because they perfectly tie into the Lovecraftian cosmic horror aspect of it.
This intro is one of the best I’ve ever seen in a film
Cool mom, I'm glad you narrowly avoided disappointing her
I want they re use this theme for the opening of Godzilla 2.
That would be the most awesome opening for Godzilla 2 ever!!
I wish you'd write the opening scene because that sounds badass!! There's so much they can use to like the Tunguska event!
yeah his signature "roar"
*high pitched trilling*
Sounds awesome
Dude, I could so totally see that happening.
Nice to see a proper Main Title-Scene in a modern movie for a change. I get the impression that these have really fallen out of use in the last decade or so.
+Schwatvogel yup, very much true. I miss proper title sequences.
1:30 Oppenheimer post credits
One of the greatest opening credits in film history.
Such a perfect opening for a movie, I can't describe why I love it, I just do.
Terrible. Fixed.
Ah. The very movie that got me into all things monsters and Kaijus. Thank you Godzilla (2014) 😌
0:42 "are these animals real? can we prove they even exist or are they merely men in rubber suits with costumes designed by tricksters"
XDDDD
Wtf lol Great catch
HAH!
Yes.
Nemesis_The_Zombie_King LOL
That's definitely a reference to the old Godzilla films lmao
No matter how many times I hear it, I absolutely love the 2014 theme music
I know that after watching Monarch: Legacy of Monsters EP.3, there will definitely be people coming back to watch this clip
That opening music gave me the chills . Completely underrated track.
This was a masterpiece
If you pause at just the right moment at 0:32 The words Walter and White are the last to be high lighted on Cranston's credit 😅 very subtle and i love it!
Oh my goodness it's actually real.
Malcolm is in there too
Cmon breaking bad was released in 2014
And godzilla
Was released in 2014
So it might be a referance
@@leeknow953Breaking Bad was released between 2008-2013
1:36 I love how the cliche of using the _Baker_ shot, an atomic bomb test, from old sci-fi movies about atomic monsters manages to creep its way into this modern movie in a scene intended to replace the _Bravo_ shot, a hydrogen bomb test.
Perfection
This opening still amaze me today. I didn't watch a opening that good for years!
The thing I love about those little blurbs that appear and then immediately get censored during the opening credits is that not only are they world-building and very intriguing, but some of them are also kinda hilarious.
“Evidence show that it is likely the creatures will come back with David Strathairn’s head.”
“Richard T. Jones has claimed unique knowledge of the creature’s odd mating habits with CJ Adams.”
I love the hidden jokes under the blackout marks. "Directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters)"
Don't forget Walter White with Bryan Cranston's credit!
Andrew Davis AND it also has "Malcolm" in there too, lol.
People who say the movie is bad because godzilla is barely there probably dont know it was the same case for the original 1954 film
By far the best opening in the monster-verse, they didn't reveal much which makes it even better in a mysterious way...i love this.
Who came here after watch one of the Kong: Skull Island tv spot
which they mentioned the nuke test in 1954
it's totally related to it.
Emanuel Gavia did Godzilla survive???😰😰😰
Cindy Durr yep
I hope they make a movie about the government trying to kill Godzilla in the mid 1900s.
Emanuel Gavia Which was the first godzilla movie
1:13 this part gave me chills
0:33 The "Scientist" and occult author RICHARD T. JONES has claimed unique knowledge of the creature's odd mating habits with CJ ADAMS
O_o
Cinema N3 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@@ramrosecanada3080 (grabs you) "You be looking like a double-wide surprise."
the scary part is that cj adams is a kid
Who else is rewatching this in 2024?
Too bad the newer Monsterverse movies don't follow G14 tone anymore. Not that Skull Island or KOTM were bad, but I miss the more serious and grounded feel of G14.
kong skull island still kinda kept that feel but ever since Doughtery threw a wrench in that you really can't go back
No offence to Dougherty but he ruined it
Tbh, if the newer films had the realism and more gritty tone of this film, then the fights would not only be way worse in comparison, but the monsters may not have been done justice.
This movie was way too clever for today's popcorn-munching ADHD audience. The opening scene alone gives my chills.
I have ADHD, this is one of my favourite films, along with saving private ryan, bridge of spies, and jurassic park (because jeff goldblum) but yeah i don't understand why people keep complaining that you don't see the monster enough, and yeah this opening is the best ever. i want a film about monarch
too clever? you have very low standards if you think this movie was even slightly "clever"
The people who talk bad about this film are probably the same people who praise stupid shit like Transformers and the Resient Evil films.
Your point is stupid af.
Can't agree more with you.
I love the "Walter Malcolm" on Bryan Cranston's name.
there's also the "walter" "white"
Amazing opening sequence. Still get chills as if I were in the seats back in 2014.
I love this title scene, best title scene I can remember seeing for a monster movie ever.
1:13 This radioactive sound are so amazing
Listening to it again, the music score is structured very similarly to the original Godzilla theme, and it’s highly appreciated.
*The movie started the Legendary Monsterverse.*
I grew up watching Godzilla since I was 5 years old watching most of the Godzilla movies from 1954 to 2004 (I’ve now watched every Godzilla film) when they teaser came out I got so pumped and excited. Finally when I saw this movie my childhood came back and I left the theater with a huge smile. This was my favorite movie of 2014 and now I cannot wait for King of Monsters and Godzilla vs Kong. Long Live the King
Just sayin, this is probably one of the best scene in the movie for me
1:43 Just came back from Scarif...
KaloTube lol
KaloTube too soon :(
KaloTube and the director who direct star war rogue one is also the director of this movie
I guess he likes beaches getting involved in explosions
Monsterverse have so many deep and fascinating lore and this is one of them
I'm glad Monarch show exist, so they can showcase these lores in details
The best Opening
1:53 if you hear closley in this part you can hear nagazaki and hiroshima peoples suffering from atomic bombs and its also reason for wake up godzilla from underground of earth
Spooky
Cool
