I love it as an american take on Godzilla. I hate that they deviated so much away from the tone they set up in the first movie. They went the slow but steady route and it worked. They did something unique by always keeping the camera on ground level. And that worked. That halo jump scene is just the cherry on the cake.

@@KAY4ZZ Genuinely cant tell if youre being a smartass dick or like just curious but I'll operate under the assumption you're just curious and don't know. Look at footage of any sort of explosion and you'll see a lot of dust and particles flying everywhere, thats just a small explosion now imagine the destruction of a whole city. For better reference look what happened at 9/11. When it collapsed a massive dust cloud covered a part of the city and coated it. Now imagine a whole city being destroyed and you'll quickly realize that thats a lot of dust and other particles in the air. Then theres all the fires and explosions emiting smoke and where does smoke go? UP, INTO THE SKY. As for the storm its likely that a storm was going on at the same time, plus having Kaiju doing all sorts of shit would prolly fuck with the weather.
PS: Wdym "Make smoke go up in the sky" where the fuck do you think it goes? also if you were just being a prick sod off

This scene alone just brings in so many things to ask like, why is the dude reading a pamphlet of thank you? Why are they jumping off the plane with flares? Why is the city in ruins? Why tf is there giant monsters fighting? Where is this going? Overall, it's a fantastic scene from an underated movie and it can be viewed as a short film.

It JUST hit me what this first movie had that the later movies didn't... the humans can proactively DO something aside from Godzilla or the big monster. Kong only had Kong beat the big bad with the humans just kinda being there and trying to get out of the way. King of Monsters had the humans actively making things worse except the bit where they supercharge Godzilla. The main bad in Kong V Godzilla is that the humans tried to make a weapon to stand up to the titans and it promptly went rogue.
At least in the first one the humans are capable of determining where the monsters will go and act partly accordingly and even effectively manage to prevent the larger disasters that was implied to actually be capable of killing all three Kaiju in nuking them, so even if Godzilla defeated the MUTOs, the human characters didn't feel useless.
Though then again, I think what people like about the movies after this one is that the humans AREN'T the main focus, but... ehhh... this is what I kinda like about this one.

Golly, this scene was legit unnerving to watch.
The creepy soundtrack, the way that almost all the light from the sky is blocked out by the dark clouds and dust and the only way the know each other's position is with the flares, the labored and muted breathing through the mask; it gives out an ominous, otherworldly feel, as if they are diving headfirst into the depths of Hell.
It helps us relate better to the characters; even though they are trained, experienced experts, they fear what they could face underneath all the dust and fire.

I think sticking to the cartoonish and incredibly dated design of Godzilla would have taken away the realism and factor of how terrifying he truly can be. They added the weight behind each step which makes you tremble and that roar is a MAJOR upgrade in the most positive way possible. I understand everyone when they say “nothing beats the OG versions” but look at me and tell me that Godzilla’s current design isn’t anything short of intimidating and frightening.
