My grandfather was a charge nurse there. He was a really good guy. A lot of people would probably criticise the treatment that some people had there but they didn't have the modern treatments we have today. I remember being in my parents car driving past this hospital when I was a child and you would see the residents walking the streets. You most definitely wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of some of them.
Fantastic old building, what a shame to just let it rot! I find abandoned buildings fascinating once bustling, busy places now silent and empty, and slowly decaying. A great vid lads.
Yes, such a sad shame really, this was when the government would actually invest real money in building such grand buildings through the local councils, now they pocket the money for their own ends.
@@upthehoe ... how come you dont know me ? ... this came out of the brains and bodies of my blood relatives ... ignorant ... so brain-washed by the cannibal cave people and this was all stolen by them ... i struggle to live everyday ... hell on earth ? ... i live it ...
I used to live up the road from this place and have explored the building. There is (was) very creepy stuff. There were rooms with beds and seats with straps on to hold people down etc. The clock tower was always still lit up at night too, even though the building was abandoned (you can see one of the modern lights that has been retrofitted in the video).
Apparently my nan was actually a patient here when it was open! Tried to get in with my partner earlier in the year but there were bloody builders all over the place. Sick video as always, your personalities make them hilarious, and I love it when you explore the places that are local to me!
This took me back lads, been searching your channel hoping you had been, have you been to the morgue? It looks to me on maps that it is still there and untouched 😏
I thought this place looked familiar - as slightly after its closure it was used as a location for the film 'Asylum' with Ian McKellen and the late Natasha Richardson
Thought I was up to date with all your videos until I found this one. Look how young and full of life AL was what went wrong eh ? Keep up the good work guys we’re all expecting a huge video when you reach 200k
High Roids was huge and was a self sufficient community in itself. I asked a guy who worked for the NHS property team why the old Victorian asylums were just left and he said they were way past their prime, and the cost of maintaining them was too expensive. He said the cost maintaining high roids in the years before it closed for one year cost more than building an entirely new and modern hospital. It also wasn't suitable in the modern era, it was cold, damp, high ceilings and basically creepy. Many terrible things happened there after the high and moral intentions of Victorians it became a dumping ground for warehousing people. Not just those with mental illness but anyone who was a bit different, single mums were routinely sent there many spending the rest of their lives on it, illegitimate children and orphans, some who spent 60 years there and were treated terribly. Also people with epilepsy, learning difficulties, basically anyone who society didn't have a use for. In the 70s and 80s experimental brain surgery was carried out on patients which was no use whatsoever and deeply damaged them. Two people who experienced this have been featured on TV.
LOL, your opening shot must have had Kubrick spinning in his grave. There's a similar place right across the road from where I live, and I get the shivers every time I drive past it.
I used to live in otley and my mates mam used to work here i also knew a guy who killed his wife in the grounds with a brick when she came to visit him he was a patient.
Very interesting, sad place. Looked liked the tried to keep it bright & cheerful, but the U.K. has a lot of rainy, gray days, which would make that place really creepy. Like I said, very Interesting , but those kind of places make me sad. Thanks , Guys ! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸
Nice building. Looked reasonable condition for an asylum. Have you ever found one of the infamous padded cells on your travels? Know any good explores in Staffordshire/Cheshire/Derbyshire?
The padded Rooms were in the front 2 buildings the one on the left Denton for males patients and the one on the right Askgarth for females. I understand the other wards had one or two. From the photos I have seen it seems the areas are the main Admin building as the main hall and kitchens are in that area.
I knew it was here you were teasing in that previous video!! I went here last year with a couple of mates (video's on my channel if you wanna peak) but you guys definitely saw things we didn't! We couldn't find the clock tower either 😒 Awesome video, guys!
Awesome video, going here Monday can't wait there's big mansion you's need to explore no ones done it yet called Gibson House on the Wirral no security over looks the Mersey.
you guys have given me an idea of a story!!!! I have written plays in the past for groundings theatre in portsmouth!!!! That's meant to b haunted they do tours on Thursdays!!!!!!
a beautiful made chubb vault room door a chubb locks .made when england had a proper industry. your money in this safe is like in a yorkshire mans pocket. safe.. love all your video's on these places along with all the natural banter and flack you dish out to each other. it's how we where in the engineering factories working. should you see any more safes like this, please do a little video clip of it for me. thanks. happy hunting.
Hell, I remember going there years ago, when the only way in was through the service tunnels behind the stage. That was pretty grim, crawling through that mess.
Cool video guys, you should go back at night time and do it again! Can you go and explore some old castle's at night-we haven't got any castles in middle earth! Thanks guys keep it up from one of your subs from down under!!!!!!!!
But i suppose at night you would have to watchout for broken floorboards and crazed crackheads eh! That shit in the toilet almost made me throw up from downunder!!!!!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
gutted i went here yesterday and the place has been bordered off with a 12ft wall and cameras, theres a couple other buildings around it to explore though, found a noose in one part...
12:20 where does that ladder go to? starts half way up the wall on the right and seems to go to a platform or gallery? There is one in the next room too.
The main admin building is grade II listed which is why it's still standing, they can't do anything to it. I used to explore this place about 10 years ago before it was a housing estate and before all the vandalism and graffiti, the clock tower is the most peaceful place on earth! Some old photos here: www.flickr.com/photos/zombola/albums/72157603301762725
I live like a 2 min walk away I've been in there way too much over the years it was at its best when they just started building the housing estate round it because the made so many entrances to get in and out everywhere
Olivia B yeah it's still standing, it's opposite my school, you have to climb over the fencing though now, I recommend going when it's dark it's creepiest then
This is one of the top 5 places you've been. The building is totally fantastic! It looks cool as fuck as well as spooky as fuck in some areas. So is Alex the only one who enjoyed the bad ass view or did you all eventually make it up there? Great job guys! Hey, do you still have my address for stickers? Still patiently waiting muckas.....Cheers
... i wish the boys had done a better job on this inspection - especially the ceilings + the room dimensions because the mathematics i need to study from my grandfather and great-grandfathers brains ... i got the same brains too and am an improved model ! ...
I TELL YA YOU DO AN EXCELLENT JOB EDITING VERY PROFESSIONAL YOU REALLY SHOULD TAKE IT FURTHER AND GO PRO LIKE MOVIES OR OPEN A BUSINESS EDITING OTHER PEOPLE'S VIDEOS OR MAKE A MOVIE YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES!!!! I WAS HOPING YOU GOT A CLOSE UP OF THE CLOCK MECHANISM
To the guys who filmed this ya might want to rewind your footage to 7mins and 21 seconds into the short film there is a middled aged man apparition that walked through the door behind the cashier desk.

Never ceases to amaze us that places like this are just left
Yes, such a sad shame really, this was when the government would actually invest real money in building such grand buildings through the local councils, now they pocket the money for their own ends.
They renovated it and now I literally LIVE there!
