Just followed these instructions for my Kindle Fire 10 (9th gen). Everything installed and I was able to pull in my first Pic2Pat pdf! Thank you for the link and video.
Great introduction to Pattern Keeper! I just started using this app for my Long Dog Samplers Pandemic and it is amazing! It will be fun to try a full-coverage with PK which I hope to do sometime soon.🙃
I have Pattern Keeper, but I was not seeing the stitch color, symbol, thread color number, or number of stitches left to work at the top right of the screen that I see in your videos until I paid more attention to the screen and finally clicked on the right-pointing arrow at the top right. Before that, those details were showing in a column on the right side, but since you can scroll up and down, your current stitch selection could sometimes disappear from the screen. I like it displayed at the top right like you do much better. Good video to point out some of the great features with this really great app.
It is in the settings-tap the gear icon and make sure the “use a flat color” is off. It also only works with supported patterns that have the full searchability. If it is just a scan then it will only show the marked off in grey.
@@gemmastitches just started my first full coverage ever after stitching for 35 years and have been working with paper & highlighter! Would love to try the system you use but do not have wifi where we live ! Thanks for your help !! Kim
Yes that is the default setting. There is also an option for all completed stitches to be shown in a flat grey colour, as some people prefer it that way. And there is also an option for the colours to be translucent so you can still see the symbols for the finished stitches.
If you want to access the PDF so you can see the measurements given on the cover page you can tap the three lines under the pattern in the menu and then select “view PDF”, that will allow you to see the original file instead of just the chart. There are also free calculators online where you can input the stitch counts and fabric count and how much extra you want for the border and it will calculate it for you. I like this one here: www.crosstitch.com/calc.html
This is brilliant. You have persuaded me to buy a new device in order to be able to use Pattern Keeper. May I ask is Pattern Keeper a subscription service? Thank you.
I have purchased patterns from HAED. Went to download them and session expired before I can complete it. Is there a video on follow thru from purchase to saving to email, Dropbox and then to pattern keeper. I have lost so many that pattern. Michelle said she is going to start charging to reset patterns. Help please.
Oh sorry to hear that! Unfortunately with HAED you have to download right away as it expires very soon after purchase. What I always do is save it locally on my computer hard drive first and then upload a copy to the Google Drive that is connected to my pattern keeper.
Two ways: on the pattern highlight a single stitch then tap on “more” next to the checkmark at the bottom and select which corner you want to park in. The other way: In a pattern tap on the gear icon in the upper lefthand corner, scroll down to shortcuts, then under “in markup mode” tap “double click on single stitch” and it will give you the option to select which corner you want the parking mark in. Then it will work with a double tap on a single stitch after that, faster than using the menu in the first option. (Note that you will have to do this in each pattern, for the moment there is no universal setting for it to apply to all patterns)
Pattern keeper does have the option to import a picture but you can only use it to mark off stitches, it will not be searchable like a PDF is. I don’t work from paper patterns anymore though, pattern keeper has spoiled me 😆
@@gemmastitches lol! I hearya. I just got back into cross stitching, it had been years and when I say the printed canvass I said oh my this is a game changer so when I saw this concerning this app I was wondering how it was used so thank you for the video.
Hi. Thx for the video. very helpful. Just getting ready to begin my first multiple page pattern designed by Jan Hicks. I’ve asked several folks as well as Jan this question. Pattern Keeper didn’t pull in the correct “vertical” center of her pattern. I printed off her pattern and did the calculations as I always start in the center. PK did pull in the correct horizontal center. Has this happened to you or have you heard of it? I even emailed the developer and she still hasn’t answered. Any help would be welcomed. Thx much.
Hi Jannie, I asked in the group and they said that while you can not change it manually, if you switch between “center of stitched area” to “center of grid” in the settings that may correct it. It could be blank space on the edges of the chart throwing it off. If that doesn’t work my other suggestion would be to turn off the center mark entirely and just make a note of it manually, maybe with a parking mark as a guide. I hope that helps!

Very helpful thanks.
How do you get your marked ditches to the floss colors

After you load pattern keeper and your pdf can you work on your project without wifi ?
Thanks
Yes, it is local to your device, you only need an internet connection when you want to import or export files

It is a game-changer, only problem is you will never want to go back to paper!
Hi, love this video. Do i pay 1 time for this app?
@leontiencaro3593 yes it is a one-time payment
The patterns, do they show in color *after* you've stitched something? Newbie here.
Yes that is the default setting. There is also an option for all completed stitches to be shown in a flat grey colour, as some people prefer it that way. And there is also an option for the colours to be translucent so you can still see the symbols for the finished stitches.
When you get a free pattern where can I find the measurements of fabric needed for it on pattern keeper?
If you want to access the PDF so you can see the measurements given on the cover page you can tap the three lines under the pattern in the menu and then select “view PDF”, that will allow you to see the original file instead of just the chart.

It is a one-time payment only and reasonably priced. It’s approx $9USD

So if pattern is not pdf or digital option do u take picture of pattern and it do the same? Hope this not a confusing question.
