This is a good insight into how parking works! I was always curious about how it works and this is a great example! I don’t think I could incorporate it into my stitching cause the lose threads would drive me nuts, but I can see how it does work for some!! Thanks Gemma.
I needed a refresh to get me back into my cross stitch. This looks like an interesting idea. I couldnt watch the video as the frame was shaking too much. But thats just me, it gave me a headache. I will watch the rest stitching and listening :)
I use markup it is a great app! I like how it tracks your progress, even though it makes me feel like a flop of a stitcher sometimes when my stitch counts for the day are low, but confetti can slow anyone down and my current piece is littered with it!🤣
I use both pattern keeper and markup XP. To make it easy, i also track in stitch pal. I like it as i can also see when my estimate completion date couls be based on my average stitch counts and photos to track progress.
Now that I started using pattern keeper I don't like paper patterns, I actually recently searched for a PDF of a pattern I had started but only had a few hundred stitches completed, it's so much faster with pattern keeper
I heard you talking about Star Trek Picard on one of your SWMs. Thanks. I'm hooked on it now. I'm almost all the way thru the 1st season. Question, do you know why Aggie agreed to kill Dr Bruce Maddox? Or was she forced into it by the Romulans? She seemed to really love him. What's the deal? Doesn't make sense.
Those are pin stitches, I use them as a way to secure the thread before cutting it without having to draw it across the back of other stitches. They will be stitched over later so they won’t be visible.
I have a video here of how I begin and end threads with different techniques. Pin stitch is demonstrated at 1:35. I hope that helps! ruclips.net/video/oTTVHm0kxJM/видео.html
I ordered it here: sulky.com/sulky-sliver-metallic-thread-silver-250-yd-spool I did have to sew it on by myself, I have a video here showing how ruclips.net/video/akf92Yu8CbI/видео.htmlsi=h8924YKSM8z7FXbY
I use this on all my projects, including high confetti areas. It just means a lot more colour changes. The thing I like the most about it is when I’m done a section, I know there are no missing stitches to have to find and fill in later
This video is my older diagonal method but it shows a high confetti area where I stitch without leaving gaps. Nowadays I wouldn’t work so hard to keep the diagonal slope but it’s a similar idea. (I find when it’s a higher confetti area I tend to naturally go more diagonally anyways) ruclips.net/video/va_1OnOWlm4/видео.html

Thanks😊😊
When I started cross stitch I did this because it seemed natural and I was teaching myself

Sorry, unfortunately I don’t have a way to keep my stand from wobbling, I’ve tried!

Great video. Super helpful. I broke down and bought pattern Keeper for my huge HAED. I still use paper patterns.
Thanks again for helping me come up with the name 😊

I love the explanation, do you have explanation about pattern keeper also?i like the color final of it❤️😁🪷🙋🏻♀️

Yes pattern keeper has spoiled me! I haven’t used a paper chart since I got it
❤❤❤

I’d have to rewatch, my memory is not what it used to be 😜
I think she was blackmailed into it if I’m remembering correctly
I used a duplicate of the PDF on my computer and I highlight that as I go.
Gemma I’m still watching this tutorial. At minute marker 3:51, what were you doing there with those stitches? Were you backstitching?
Those are pin stitches, I use them as a way to secure the thread before cutting it without having to draw it across the back of other stitches. They will be stitched over later so they won’t be visible.

What you do with the marking thread to see the blocks. Do you take them away after you finished the canvas?
Yes I pull them out after all the stitching is done. It’s a special thread that you can’t pierce with the needle, so it slides out easily.
@@gemmastitches you buy that in a store or do the floss there by yourself?
I ordered it here:
sulky.com/sulky-sliver-metallic-thread-silver-250-yd-spool
I did have to sew it on by myself, I have a video here showing how
ruclips.net/video/akf92Yu8CbI/видео.htmlsi=h8924YKSM8z7FXbY
So when you pinch and cut the thread on the back, I am assuming u r ok with having a 1/4+/- inch thread of cut thread left hanging on the back.
Yes, I like to leave a 1/4” just to be safe that it won’t come back out
When you end a thread that is a longer thread, do you keep it, and then how do you restart it using the loop method? Or do you restart it another way?
Yes I keep leftover pieces if they are long enough to use again. I use loop starts the majority of the time.
I believe i saw her starting a thread by using the pin stitch method as well, when she cant use a loop.
@the.graveyard.stitcher2571 yes I use that or a waste thread
This wouldn’t work if there was loads of confetti would it? Sometimes I have 85 colours in 100 stitch square 😢
