    The addition of Rotosound flat wounds to mine really brought it to life. The dull standard strings are most certainly not an indication of the true capabilities of this otherwise fine instrument. Unlike others, I don't find it at all unwieldy, and the neck feels great in my largish hands. The factory setup left a lot to be desired, but after spending an hour fine tuning it, I thoroughly enjoy the outcome. Great vintage value for money :)

    I guess it would make sense to keep the impedance switch on the middle setting of 250 as the default, and then go to either 50 or 500 for a desired effect.

    I LOVE running my Silverburst Casady (the first "Limited Edition" color from a few years back, and a fantastic marketing move by the guys 'n gals at Epiphone) thru my NOS SWR Interstellar Overdrive preamp, also a piece of gear JC had a hand at developing, and simply letting those tube get nice and orangey!! :-D Interestingly enough, she also sounds great with a set of Tapewound strings (and I am NOT flat/tape kind-of-guy in my playing!...) thru my high-end 1x10" combo - they interact amazingly well together. I'd love to hear Epiphone release a Limited Edition Fretless version, as the "openness" at the 250/500 Ohms strung with tape or flats would be an amazingly fantastic thing to hear, and they'd have Order #2 (Jack's would be #1, of course) from me about 5 minutes after sales started!

    It's not a semi-hollow body but a hollow body. There's actually no solid center block (like there's one on a Sheraton for example). There's only a limited block localized just beneath the bridge. I mean... I have one.

  • @johngeddes7894
    @johngeddes7894 7 лет назад +21

    According to Jack, this is not a semi hollow bass. There is a block under the bridge but it only extends far enough to block feedback. Air moves through the entire body of the bass. Just sayin...

    The real secret to this instrument is playing with dynamics the way Jack does.
    Hitting certain notes harder makes them distort and pop more. Especially on the 500 setting
    Playing with the same volume throughout doesnt really make it sound much different really

  • @donklink2545
    @donklink2545 8 лет назад +7

    Very little difference in the various modes and would be minor in a band setting. Not a bad bass though. Jack is the shit no doubt!

    When those first came out I knew I had to have one. But then a buddy got one and when I played it I found I didn't like the feel at all. To me the neck felt "chunky" and didn't sit well in my hands. Plus I like to rest my thumb on the p/u and the position of this one wasn't ergonomic for me. I'm 6'4" with very large hands so it wasn't a matter of being too big for me, just not my cup of tea. And I've owned Gibson basses in the past but this one has it's own feel. But having said all that, it is still a super cool looking bass and the construction quality is very high. Definitely would recommend trying it to see if it is "your" cup of tea. I still would like to own one if just to look at, especially this new white color, very cool.

      Sometimes a slight adjustment in technique opens up extended possibilities. the parts of playing music that are exciting are learning and solving technical issues. Makes a better player of those open to improving constantly.
