This song has helped me over and over and over again through the hardest times in my life. I’m a suicide attempt survivor and this song is so meaningful and has helped keep a positive outlook whenever my depression returns. I’m not perfect, and that’s ok. It’s fine. I love this message. I hope I can thank Tim in person one day.
I so very much hope you can to! ❤❤ hugs my friend! Fellow suicide survivor x 4
You're not alone with this sentiment.
I'm glad you survived. I'm also a suicide survivor
Hugs to you. Been there too and survived and this song does give a beautiful message 💜
I'm a fellow survivor, and you're so right about this song....
Like so much of Tim's writing, it has many levels to it.
Sending hugs xxoo
This is my all time favorite Tim Minchin song. It is so special and I relate to so much of it on so many levels. It’s not perfect but it’s fine.
I remember when it was first played on Spicks and Specks. I needed a few tissues.
It's definitely one of his best.
Ahh. I watched the original DVD when it was released after buying new 5.1 speakers. What a beautiful ride. Deep tickling of my funny bone... loud, sudden outbursts of laughter. Then this one, just transfixed and slowly crying alone. I slept like a baby that night 😄❤
It is one of my favourite too. It inspired a poem about my failed assistance dog. He's not perfect, but he's mine.
Same here.
I've heard this song dozens of times, and it always brings tears to my eyes.
It's a beautiful song.
The line about my body, always makes me burst in to tears. But they're nice tears, healing tears. Thanks Tim, for making me laugh, and think, for the best part of the last 2 decades.
the same, but about the brain
Your body can't be that bad?
@@NoMusiciansInMusicAnymore It never says a bad word about me.
@@TheDragonProject but it hasn't got a mind to form words with its mouth so it never says any good words about you either
100% this... wrecked me...
When it got to the part of the song where he said his body was 31.6 years old I immediately looked how old he is now to find out this song is now 17 years old, bloody hell!
Love you Tim. Because of the brain you live in, you make the earth you live in more beautiful for the rest of us to live in
This comment is Not Perfect (but almost is) ❤
Well said
Even after all these years, I still cry EVERY time I listen to this song. It just feels like a hug to me and I can't think of any other song that makes me feel so comfortable about being myself. Thank you Tim Minchin!
❤❤❤
Tim Minchin makes the world better. Such a deep song from this brilliant comedy mastermind.
These words brought me comfort upon my exit, at age 31, from the high-demand religion I was born into. Losing belief in everything I thought I ever knew was scary and disorienting and this song helped me to realize that the earth was still rotating, that the sun would continue to come up, and that actually everything was not going to fall apart.
Your comment made me tear up, thank you for sharing that ❤️
I'm so happy for you that you got out!
I hope that Tim realizes all the positive effects he has on so many people around the world! ❤
This a beautiful song.
I prefer this stripped back version over the fully orchestrated arrangement.
I relate to the sentiment still after all the years since I first heard it.
Beautiful.
Exactly the same! Includes the country verse. I love it so much!
“Perfect is the enemy of good” ❤
That’s so humbling in the healthiest possible way. Thank you, Tim
This song never gets old! And neither does Tim! He's forever 31 and 6 months old!
I cannot express, just how much I truly love this song.
I still remember the first time I heard this song. Some of my family were watching it on TV. I just stood there fixated though the whole thing and my eyes filled with tears. I wasn't expecting it at all. It's incredibly beautiful ❤️
This song saved my life in my 20s.
I’ve never left a RUclips comment before on anything ever and this isn’t my music genre but it ended up in my queue somehow and I became entranced. Not only with the song, but his voice and it’s been on repeat since. I could feel it. It was so real. It is every time I hear it. ❤❤❤❤❤
I adore his sublime melange of melancholy, science facts, heart/soul, and eye makeup.
Every few years, I find myself coming back to the comforts of this song. Thank you for over a decade of tranquility, Tim.
what a perfect song.
What an incredibly clever and touching song. You hit it out of the park with this one, Tim. Bravo!
I only discovered Tim about two months ago, the highlight of my year. I don't know if that means have a dull life or he's that good an entertainer.
Hard to explain. He's His style is fairly unique but it's hard not to love Tim himself the moment you see him. All of his comedy is relatable no matter who you are.
Great live as well.
I've watched hours and hours of his stuff on RUclips, much of it multiple times. @@Yeebok
@karlb10024 Be sure that you've nailed the sentiment of his materials as I perceive it. Seems to me Tim would pose that very same question himself, even though I am confident he's that good an entertainer.
I love the intensity in your eyes Tim. Wonderful song writing, thanks for sharing some of your inner thoughts.
jesus I used to have a rip of this on my ipod and watch it in maths class and waiting for the bus, along with a bunch of other classics, tony the fish anyone lol.
slapped at 13 still slaps at 29 Tim, all the love
I really like the way Tim's mind works.
I will always get verklempt to listening to this song. Despite the title, this song will always be perfect to me ❤
Heard this song for the first time today. I read through the comments and I'm glad that it had such a great and positive influence on what seems so many. I'm glad we're all here today and share our memories of this song.
this is my favorite song of Minchin's followed closely by white wine in the sun
This song never fails to get me. To me, it encapsulates so perfectly how life is so contradictory. At the same time wonderful and terrible. Loving and hateful sad and happy, in constant conflict in an imperfect system yet perfection and peace is what we all seek as we see it. All thanks to our wonderful f'd up 🧠
This is an important song. ❤
I love this man! 💝
ironically, this song is perfect
I'm not sure, even with this song there may be things that could be better. But it seems like it's very much his.
(Edit: But yeah, it's pretty much perfect)
@@jonas.groschwitzHe actually plays all his songs slightly different every time, so it can always be perfect.
I waited for an early version of this masterpiece for so long: a dream came true!
There's a lot going on in that exquisite mind.
...just....incredible.....
I love this song so much that I rewrote the lyrics to be about my cat, & I sing it all the time 😅
What are they, dear? I want to sing too 🐈
This song always tugs my heart strings 🥺💜
Honoured to share the planet with this individual.
A lovely and gentle ode to acceptance and self determinism
One of my favourite songs of all time.
Certified classic.
this song never fails to make me cry
Thank god for your talent because the world definitely is more perfect with you in it. Gorgeous song 💜
one of my all time favourites, the first one i’d heard from tim
I love this song, it's been a part of my playlist for sooooooooo many years ❤❤❤ Never stop Tim, never stop!
A great song with great lyrics that might not be perfect, but they're his and they're really, really good.
One of his best and while it has meaning for so many people, it takes me back to the comedy festival when I first saw him with his hair and bare feet and brilliant songs. How lucky I've been to see so many great talents!
Still love the white wine song better.
Thanks Tim, I'm so angry atm and this is what I need. Legend.
Wanna go duke it out in a carpark or a taxi rank somewhere? work through some of our issues?
@@JSp8 clearly different brain waves, thanks for the offer bruv.
@@DinFKNSin "clearly" would need an amount of knowledge that if not gained by learning, could only have been imagined.
Tim is consistently perfect
Not perfect 😊 but very fine!
This has been a favourite song of mine for a while now.
When I’m being particularly hard on myself I listen to it a few times. Sing along loudly.
Helps me bring myself back to center. Remind me to just be, and it’s okay
It’s always a wonderful day when Tim Minchin sings a beautiful song!!! Thank you Mr. Minchin!! I adore you and love your music!!
"This is my body.." As a trans person, I can't tell you how much this verse has helped me over the years. It's not perfect, but it's mine. ❤
There's no such thing as trans Grasshopper.
A thought that should of ran through before transitioning, if you truly love yourself, you would never do such a thing to yourself.
Stay safe
@@TSKProductions I transitioned *because* I love myself. Thanks! ❤️
@@TSKProductionsI feel sorry for you and the people you hurt with your hateful sentiments. Perhaps think of the pain you inflict on others before project your bigotry on them.
@@msandersen You keep feeling sorry then, you seem very good at it
I listened to this several times over the years and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye... eyes... and the brain behind those where my thoughts live.
You're truly one of the greatest poets of our current generation.
THANK YOU.
I love this person so much. I saw this in my sub feed and i was like...im not in the mood for some jokes. But i clicked it anyway...and gotta say. I got good taste
I’d love to see more early gigs!

Easily one of the best songs ever written. Along with many of Tim's other songs. ❤
Classically brilliant 🤩 Tim ❤
My daily reminder to just love all my body is, and stop complaining for what I think it isn't.
I love Tim Minchin and his talent sooooo much that I can't even adequately explain it. He is just incredible.
This is my favourite songs. ❤
I love this song.... it's not perfect but it's fine.
A masterpiece ❤
One of the best fish evolutions ever 😉
I love this song so much. There's honestly no words for how much I love this song.
Tim is a legend of our times! ❤
Such a personal song that we can all relate to, beautiful sir.
I needed this more than I knew!!!
Thank you Tim for a perfect song.
A favourite song with real meaning in the words 🎵 ❤ 💕 😍 💓 💖 It's not perfect, but it's MINE 👀👍❗
One of my most favourite songs of all time🙂💙💙
He’s just so great with words 👍
Funny to see tim having a RUclips thumbnail
wow... that was really deep. Seriously. And beautiful.
Thank you, that’s all just thank you
Wow, - i love it. I am so sad that i just now get to know your stuff. It is so sweet, sad and sometimes sarcastic. And always very thoughtful.
Sniff. One of my favs. Thanks I never saw this performance.
This song helps me to love.
I needed to hear this today. Thank you.
This is one of my favourites, Tim!
I love this guy he is on my buck list I love the talent amazing massive thanks for sharing from North Queensland Australia fan❤❤😂😂
Amazing
Thanks Tim
I love this full version - takes me straight back to watching it played in full on The Big Gig
The ABC's Big Gig (1989-1992) predates Tim and this song by 15+ years. Tim performed this song on Sideshow, hosted on ABC by Paul McDermott in 2007.
Love it ❤, it's got humour and has a great message 👍
Love Tim
Thank you. Beautiful.
WHY I CRY EVERY FUCKING SINGLE TIME
I love this one!
Beautiful
Really beautiful song :)
❤ Thanks Tim!
I used to listen to this song every night on my iPod classic before I went to sleep when I was a teenager 😂❤
I've always wanted to hear a studio version of this song with the full orchestra backing, and a choir performing the harmonies from the Comedy Prom version.
So relatable.
"Divorce created by its spin is divorce that stops the chaos flooding in."
Best mis-hear ever? ....
A candidate.
One of my all-time fav Minchin songs. Your comic stuff is amazing but "Not perfect" and "Absence of you" are the two I keep coming back to from the more serious stuff.
You should try this new song I've heard of, though , it's called "Cont"!!
He’s like a weird 2000’s Beethoven. He’s amazing.
Was wondering why he was renting again after having bought the house then realised it was an earlier version 😅
What a beautiful song.
Why isn't this a #1?! (rhetorical)
😍
i don't agree with a lot of his politics... but damn... there is no disregarding his talent and i've had so much respect for him for so many years now. every aspect of his music writing, playing, comedy, stage presence... one of a kind. kudos brother!
and his observations in general. he's a brilliant man, no doubt.
