What I love about handaconda is that its attacks are telegraphed, but it might change its mind if u take a while to decide. If it shows scissors it'll play rock, if it shows rock it'll play paper, and if it shows paper it'll play scissors, and it can switch tells mid choice so u gotta pay attention. That's good boss design right there
I think you got it backwards. At 10:52, for example, the hand shows rock and then plays scissors. Still, I hadnt noticed the gestures were telegraphs. I agree, it's a pretty cool mechanic.
When fighting it I didn't even see that it was hinting about it's choice XD I just played rock paper scissors normally like I didn't know the adversary's choice. It worked in the end.
I like how there are pictures of Bowser from the main games in the background. I guess Paper Bowser remembers meeting his 3d counterpart in Paper Jam and has these pictures to remember him.
@@d.s.3408 I think they're just regular portraits. There's a portrait of a regular Yellow Toad in a Yellow Toad's Manor in Colour Splash. That same portrait is in Toad Town in this game. Plus, both Bowsers hate eachother in PJ. I don't think it's a Paper Jam reference.
6:55 Stoney Sheety Cutty I was completely caught off guard by the Rock Paper Scissors segment. When I freed Olivia, I was completely prepared to go for the fire Vellumental since, you know, paper is flammable. Then it turned into a hand.
Its a truly creepy part when you are walking by seeing severed bodies and outta of nowhere a giant hand leaps out to grab you not to mention you are all alone
Look at the hand position on the boss, see that it changes? You must watch the handaconda's position and get to the circle before he changes. You can also do this when you haven't pressed the 1000 fold arms button
Scissors is the stereotypical “mad doctor” trope you see in literature and animation, he uses the body parts of others and literally Frankensteins together monsters like the paper macho buzzy beetle. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was responsible for making ALL of the paper macho enemies, since he seems to regard them as “toys”
I just wanted to say this Incase anyone was wondering but if you use fire flowers on Handaconda it literally slaps all of the fire balls away (probably is the same with ice flowers but I didn't check that 1), also if you use a hurl hammer on Handaconda it literally catches the hammer like it's nothing, also if you try to put the action space right beside Handaconda it just flicks it away, and lastly I am pretty sure if you try to jump on Handaconda it catches you and tosses you back.
Question, why does it seem to telegraph one thing, then change what it throws to draw and make itself bigger? Is there a way to counter this or will it do that regardless and you can only damage it when it's bigger? Also, is it possible to draw twice? If so, does nothing happen on the second one?
It gets bigger the more you draw I believe the limit of size is 3 And the bigger it is the less damage that will be dealt if you win (edit: and he will deal more damage if you lose with a bigger hand] Best thing to do is not to draw
I'm confused nintendo. First, this has the boss rings. Second, this has the boss music. But it has the normal enemy screen (what I mean is like the screen before the battle) What is this, a boss or a normal enemy?
This boss is actually called Handaconda, the Cutout Soldiers are the humanoid enemies you fight.
Also the miniboss music is 🔥.

We're the kings of Roshambo!
Wouldn’t make sense. If it showed scissors, it would expect the player to use rock, so wouldn’t it want to change its mind to paper?
We're just gonna gloss over the LITERAL HALLWAY OF DISMEMBERED CORPSES?!?!

Handaconda just FREAKS me out.
For real.Scissors is a sadistic freak through and through for creating abominations like Handaconda and Paper Mistake Buzzy Bettle.
For real real. It's so creepy...
And I like it :)
It's a lot like the Underhands from SPM.
I actually screamed slightly when I saw the hand grab Mario on my playthrough, it's definitely freaky.
Not to mention the Cutout Soliders! Seriously how screwed up in the head IS Olly?!
Shadow Queen: I am the creepiest Mario boss
Handacola: I'm about to end this woman's whole career
That boss looks like the one in the final boss of Paper Mario the thoundan year door
Handaconda is probably the closest thing we’ll ever get to a TTYD reference.
To the Shadow Queen type vibe?
Maybe... I see little else that reminds me of Thousand Year Door.

6:14 I love how Mario catches Olivia
Actually, the cutout soldiers were the other things. This has its own name, it’s the Handaconda.
Wanted to scream at the man for not realizing the hand loosely shows what it’ll throw
That name is incredibly clever but it also does make you wonder where it came from
It is a monster created by Scissors.
The process is unknown but it's made from the same Paper as the creepy Cut Out Soldiers Mario met before this.

64 sound effect.
@@mariobroultimate1808 Not exactly. 64 used that sound, but it wasn't the first game that sound was used.
The first time it was used was in Hotel Mario. Despite how old it is, it seems like it made its way in this game. Somehow.
64 remaster foreshadowing?
I think during the rock-paper-scissors phase the boss actually shows what kind of symbol you need to win.
I can't be the only one getting shadow queen vibes from this.
Nope. I got em too.
I'm getting more of a Wallmaster vibe from the LoZ series myself, and kinda the Dead Hand from OoT specifically.

This is a very scary Rock Paper Scissors.
When it grabbed my throwing hammer I knew I was f*cked.
Just some casual family friendly body horror
It is the only boss with a blue background instead of purple when starting the battle.

It's called Handaconda
My personal headcanon is that this thing is the remains of the Shadow Queen.
