Thanks for your hard work.
I can’t believe this album came out in 2004? It sounds so futuristic, DOOM and Madlib are some of the greatest musicians of all time
@@thomasanguita6568 its a collab album with villian madlib and mfdoom
@@thomasanguita6568 You mean Daniel Dumile had many personas? Viktor Vaughn is one of them
@@brandonnelson94 oh shit pfft I thought that was his name, well the more you know
@@thomasanguita6568 madvillain is a formation, a team, not a persona, the guy was right in the first place, it's madlib and doom aka the villain. Now yes the illest villains suggests some other larger persona, but that is from the sum of them, doom is rapping though, he's the villain. If you consider all the personas, even the ones mentioned it will get real interesting and complicated but, the overall theme is just in the album title simply meaning the two guys working together.
@@thomasanguita6568 the villain strikes again! DOOM!
Rhinestone Cowboy got one of the hardest, most coldest openings in hip-hop ever. Whenever I listen to the song I need to rewind that bar at least three times over 😂
The density of his rhymes combined with the stunning instrumental literally got the hair on my arms standing up every time I go back to that song. I can't even listen to one song from the album, it's just a perfect closure and I have to run it back every time.
I mean what a way to close the album. The sample is so dope too. But this was some of the best bars ever imagined. "Mask, pump shotty, somebody stop me" it's so simple but so vivid and witty. This guy was fuckin crazy with it
U should peep tha chopped and screwed version .. sounds way different atmosphere
I'm still listening to this album most days over 18 years after I first heard it. I get a huge kick out of watching people react to the whole album. Your reactions are just what all of us were thinking when we first listened, but you verbalise it. Thanks for a joyful video. RIP DOOM.
Appreciate that my guy. Rip DOOM 💯💪🏾
same here. seeing young ones encounter the bestest refreshes my head-nod
This is the highest level hip hop album ever created. This is it, as good as it gets
I respect Ahmad cuz Ahmad respects the lyricism!! Man, such a loss to the hip hop community when MF left. Nobody connected tongue twisters better than that man. Just thankful he put out a lot of material to bless heads for an eternity. RIP Viktor Vaughn.
FAM. You need to review that Cannibal Ox Cold Vein album asap!
Yooo Ahmad.. He ain't lying! Since you dig the "abstract", you would mess wit it. The Cold Vein is one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time!! Produced by El-P
....also, I recomend listening to the song "AK-47" first before you listen to The Cold Vein. It's from their 2nd album I think but something about that song, it belongs on their first album imo. Plus a great intro song to Cannibal Ox (Vast Aire & Vordul Mega)
DOOMs rhymes are filled with 80s references from cartoons tv shows commercials anything! So a lot of younger fans don’t get it they just know he can rap. But the fans over 40 know! You can enjoy it even more with pause and google😂
ive learned so much random information from googling DOOM and aesop lyrics
Fancy Clown was coming from DOOM's other alter ego Viktor Vaughn speaking about being cheated on by DOOM
Eye was sung by Stacy Epps
This album was a genius effort by Dumile and Jackson Jr. displaying their talents. On Bistro, the introductions was most of their music personas
Madlib: Quasimoto, Yesterday's New Quintet
MF DOOM: King Geedorah, Viktor Vaughn
mm... food is super slept on and aged well given the concept
It's blasphemous that MF DOOM wasn't listed in top 50 MC's of all time list. A lyrical juggernaut, that even to this day... It's hard to keep up just to recite his lyrics.
Glad you got around to doing this review
That whole list was blasphemous
@@nekronbeast3981 true indeed... How Rakim and Ice Cube not top 10 at the very least? And my other...just my opinion. Conway the Machine... His body of work and skills is a already legendary. If people don't know... I dare you to dive in...
MFDOOM easily top 2 for me
he never had a joowish manager so makes sense
no.1 in the underground. lists are stupid unless they're in your favor, then they're 100% accurate
Stacey Epps is the singer on "Eye". Shes fire
When I think about the best rap albums of all time I personally think about "Illmatic", "To Pimp A Butterfly" and this one. Not only his talent to rhyme but the creativity of MF DOOM on his projects it's out of this world.
The soul body and mind of hip-hop
DOOM has way better albums than this one bruh .. n Nas has way better albums than his debut bruh do ur research .. n to pimp a butterfly lol smh cmon now foo u gotta be like 15yrs old
@@stabaholic187 I listened to more MF DOOM albums (like MM FOOD, Operation Doomsday, etc...) and more Nas albums (like It Was Written or Stillmatic) and even tho they have more creative albums, this albums created huge moments, like how they refined them and they managed to connect with a lot of people, there's a readon SO MANY people love them, including me.
Also I don't wanna hear any complain about To Pimp A Butterfly; I've heard over 100 rap albums (close to 200), I hear new albums everytime I exercise, not a single album has blew my mind to the same level as To Pimp A Butterfly, the amount of plannning and attention to detail required to create a project like that is insane.
Yes, is the BEST rap album I've heard, and I've heard every single classic that you're gonna tell me that it's better from the 80s, 90s or 2000s.
@@SpiderJAAM lol about how many rap albums you've heard. I've heard so many I lost count.. n did u like ur own comment ?? u barelys posted a couple mins ago... lol smh , cringe .. n DOOM has more albums under different alias like Viktor Vaughn n King Ghidorah n Zev love X n Nas has Mixtapes that are better than his albums do ur research kid before talking crazy like u know hip hop or something just cause illmatic and madvillainy are ur favorite when lil do uno they have way better albums in their discography
@@stabaholic187 for someone who listened to a bunch of amazingly written albums, you can't even write properly. 🤣
@Dappo. I saw Madlib at the Little Temple Bar in the City Of Angel's/Los Angeles back in 05. He was walking around with a joint in one hand and a saxophone in the other. He was wearing a white blazer wit a durag. 15minz later he got on the turn tables. He was the guest D.J. of the night. Bad ass.
this album is 1000% Hip-Hop. from the school of Pete Rock, Premier, Prince Paul, etc, with the interludes and skits. also reminds me of listening to college radio, when they would throw on a Sesame Street record, or some crazy shit, and make it work
some things I noticed while watching this:
1. Fancy Clown is more than just a joke about DOOM cheating on himself (wears a mask all day, tinhead, tin crown face), it’s self deprecating because he’s heartbroken and yet he would just as easily do the same thing to someone, thus they are both himself. He’s acknowledging his own hypocrisy
2. The “shot a cop day around the way” etc bar in Figaro is one of the best bars in the song if you really break it down
3. Didn’t realize how good of a bar the “quadruple” one was either on Money Folder
4. “Overthrow 'em like throwing Rover a biscuit
A lot of bitches think he's overly chauvinistic
Let go his dick if that's the case
Rats, what a waste, there's more cats to chase“ although obviously and self-referentially misogynistic, DOOM was spitting pretty decent advice ngl
my favorite album of all time and I still constantly find new details about it to love
on fancy clown, it's victor vaughn ranting on the phone on how his gf cheated on him with DOOM (how u gonna be with a dude that wears a mask all day)
fancy clown is a letter from his other personalities
The lady's voice you are looking for is Stacy Epps. She's a dope singer/MC from the early 2000s. Kinda like Lauren Hill she disappeared. Look up Stacy Epps and do a review on her two albums. I know Madlib did some of those beats on her albums.
Yep, She was with a group called Sol UpRising
She's now madlibs Attorney n manager, no longer egon
You didn’t know MadLib could rap? I’ll bet you didn’t know he has a whole album with JDILLA named Champion Sound!!
He also made Quasimoto albums and had a group called Lootpack. Dope shit
Props to the review! This album is cool af, and just hard. I'm so glad alot of people are getting into DOOM now, he def needs to be heard more and he can rap his ass off. I seen people mention madlibs rap group the loot pack, you should check that out for sure, madlib will show you his rap style. Comments did mention aesop rock, I say check him out too, just bring your dictionary and theseraus. There's this one song called closer by quasimoto feat MF DOOM. It's so hard. I actually have that quasimoto album. I would say something about quasi and madli, but If you don't know I won't spoil it for you. Last thing, there's this other song called put your quarter up with MF DOOM feat aesop rock, and slug of atmosphere. You gotta check that out! Had to like and subscribe. Good shit, and props for even being a fan of DOOM. You're cool, peace
King Ahmad aka The Reaction GOAT!! You articulated the description of this album perfectly my brotha! The rhymes and the production was unorthodox, but of course it rocks...Lol That man Doom is the monotone murderer bruh. Everytime I get a chance to tune into your channel, you have some dope shit on. Much respect for that! Now just do Sean Price's album Monkey Barz and you'll win the reaction channel Heisman trophy bro.
This album is grade A pure hip hop smacked in your face Rip king Doom🙏
DOOM* brother 💙
ALL CAPS WHEN YOU SPELL THE MANS NAME!
all caps!
Edited comment but didn’t factor ALL CAPS
@@samrose3205 I do what the F I want that’s why
In my opinion my second favorite album by MF Doom and his flow is going down to history 1971/2020 🕊️🕊️🕊️
What’s your first? Man’s catalog is deep.
Probably mm food which I wholeheartedly agree with
I love this album, but i kinda love mm food more.
@@kingkrimzon3889lowkey my favourite is take me to your leader I think. But there's 5 or 6 albums in contention for his best honestly
@@andrewwesson4609 W, Madvillainy #1 for me but Take me to your leader close second
I would've never listened to this album unless you posted it thank you thank you thank you
Rhinestone cowboy another wordplay off the popular Glen Campbell country song " Like a rhinestone cowboy"
Ahhhhh King, I was waiting on that Moet flask bar and you cut it lol. I understand, do what you gotta do. One of my all time favorite albums.
This my first time listening to an MF DOOM album. Nice af.
I want to recommend one hell of an album to you from a group called "The Gravediggaz" . signed, produced and featuring Rza from WU. . It's an acquired taste but considering you like this I think you will like it dwg. .
i’m so happy your finally doing all of madvillany
Ive been listening to DOOM for over 5-6 years, and i still catch new stuff all the time. Thats the magic of DOOM is how deep his raps go.
DOOM lyrics are a never ending gift. You catch something new every listen.
I remember when DOOM came to Houston in 2004 and I bought this album at his concert.... popped it in the ride and couldn't stop listening to it for at least 2 years
Dude wildchild and madlib did a project before and you might like it, lootpack and the song is whenimondamic
One of the last projects MF Doom did was with Czarface called "Czarface meets Metal Face" you absolutely need to check that one out.
I definitely gotta peep the album 💯👍🏾
Inspectah deck and mf doom is great combination
@@So-xs8tf Honestly, most MF Doom combos are great. If Ahmad hasn't checked out Danger Doom, that's pretty much a must-listen.
A lot of early 2000s Adult Swim references in there.
Bombthrown » czarface
feat mf doom really deserves a reaction
As Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic put it, the song is about a veteran artist "who's aware that he's more than paid his dues during his career ... but is still surviving, and someday, he'll shine just like a rhinestone cowboy."
Check out the BLACK MOON album: enta da stage...Buck Shot shorty
🔥
After doing this album now you gotta do Lootpack's 1999 album. And the Quasimoto album Unseen (2000). But you have to react to it after smoking some bud!!! Required.
That fancy clown track 🔥
Viktor vs DOOM
So if you want to go down the DOOM wormhole I would suggest taking it back to the essence, to when he was still a young emcee by the name of zev love X in a group called KMD. Their first single "peach fuzz" will show you just how far he came to become DOOM. Or you could check out "the gas face" which is a classic song by a group called 3rd Bass featuring him(still Zev Love X).
But I have a Collab that you'll love.... Called "Angels" by him(as DOOM) featuring ghostface..... Yeah. Nuff said.
Wow, never knew that. Peach Fuzz was the joint...and of course Gas Face was, too.
@@tywayne3 yup. That's the origin story of our beloved villain DOOM.
In Fancy clown it's Viktor (doom's other persona) that got his girl cheated by Doom, and the whole song is written from Viktor's perspective
Fancy Clown is Viktor Vaughn dissing DOOM for fuq’n his girl and he’s going to get wit him Ahmad.
You finally did it let's gooo
The illest shit about Doom was his flow was different for every "alter-ego" he portrayed. On Fancy Clown right before the song started he said "It's Vikor" meaning Viktor Vaugn one of his alter egos, and you can hear the flow is way different than the Doom flow. Dude is a fucking legend man. RIP to one of the greatest to ever do it. Shit hurt my heart when I heard he passed.
As King Gheedorah he rhymes in triplets, representing the 3-headed monster that is King Gheedorah
True say .. I noticed that too , his flow on vik albums and ghidorah albums were like totally different people no joke .. sht is wild to think about
Was waiting for you to catch the Operation Lifesaver (the breath mint) lines
Great review!.. especially your thoughts at the end. Respect fam
Some of J Dilla influences was from Kanyne and Madlib
@Dappo. I saw MF Doom perform in San Francisco with Gang Starr when Guru & Premo came out with the Owners album in 04. They was rockn the crowd. Dope tyms.
If you haven't already, you should check out some of Quasimoto, The Unseen
One of my favorite project
Ya thar madlib album is heavy
Also if you haven’t heard of JD and Domi they did some incredible jazz versions of Madvillainy
Bruh your very underrated, i been suscribed since 2021
I bought this album because of the cover and it’s one of the best albums of the 2000s
This is in my truck right now along with Magic, CZARFACE MEETS MF and Every Hero Needs a Villain. ProdigyxAlchemist Albert Einstein. 12 Reasons to Die Brown tape and Iron Flag... you getting that poster.
The Fancy Clown track isn't DOOM. It's his alter ego Viktor Vaughn. He's talking about DOOM smashing his girl. Your reactions are a blast. Keep doing you.
somebody who actually mention big pun as a top... THANK YOU!
In case u didn’t already know: Quasimoto is Madlib’s rapper alterego, he got the pitch cus he didnt like his voice
it all makes sense, but it's usually an obscure reference. for instance "you know it like a poet baby doll" is from an intro to an old school Bed-Stuy stick up anthem from the early 80s.
I listened to this album all the way through recently and it has aged so well. So stoked for all the work madlib is gonna be puttin out soon, especially since he confirmed the sequel to this. Great vid and choice!
They got a sequel to this ? 👀👀
Fire!!! I got this album about 1mo before it dropped
🔥🔥
I remember the day I bought this CD. I hadn't heard of DOOM at the time, I just got it cause I knew Madlib produced it. A shit load of MF DOOM albums, singles, beat tapes, adult swim episodes, etc later.........
I honestly don't think I've heard this album but was a big fan of MF Doom in the early 2000's. . And there was another guy he did an album with called Danger Mouse, he was all over Adult Swim and did a song featuring Aqua team Hunger Force which was hilarious, and I really dug his Style, the title of the album is "Danger Doom"
MF DOOM! the fines't of the rhymes' , god damn legendary' used the whole dictionary!
Listen some Lootpack, that was Madlibs group with Wildchild and Dj Romes and he's rappin a lot.
Man it’s crazy I somehow stumbled upon this video of yours and watched halfway though. I clicked your channel and saw another video say 23 year old reacts to another album. Damn I been listening to doom for almost that long. Awesome to see your reaction listening to him for the first time. We used to roll around back in highschool cranking the 8 or so albums he put out in two years.
So did doom end up making it onto the wall?
All caps when u spell da man's name
1 of the greatest Rap albums all time! In fact, I heard about this album via XXL back when & Jay-Z was like this was his fav of the year. At that point I was sold... the rest is history... R.I.P To the super-villain!
Make no mistake about it.... this is definitely HIP-HOP.
Jneiro Jarel is my bro. I'd like to check your reaction to JJ DOOM.
I really appreciate you lockin' in on that real hip-hop head type vibe. That's culture. Keep doin' ya thing Ahmad!!
🤝❤️
If you wanna see what MF Doom looks like view Gas Face by 3rd Bass featuring Zed Love X. That was MF Doom name back in the days
All caps when u spell da man's name
Classic! We need The Blueprint album reaction next!
Pleeeeeeeeeease
Nice reaction. My favourite hiphop tune (and possibly my favourite tune of any genre) is Lyrics To Go by Tribe. Just incredible lyricism over a killer sample. But 99% of their catalogue is superb, you can't go wrong with whatever you choose.
U should peep Del tha funkee homosapiens version of that lyrics to go song , sounds hard
You the one I would do a hip hop show with if I was up there. You understand, we had these same conversations when this shit drop and we were young smh crazy
Appreciate u doing this legendary record
Fancy Clown is Viktor Vaughn rhyming about DOOM hanging with his girl. DOOM wears a mask, Viktor doesn't. "That's you if you want a dude who wear a mask all day"...ima have throw this back into the rotation
MM FOOD is my fav project from DOOM. MM FOOD also = MF DOOM lool
I know this is years ago but finally feel like I’m listening to this greatness with a friend. You already DOOM is bonkers. Still I need that Vik Vaughn review. You ain’t ready. How many emcees got alter ego(s)
Allot of rappers have alter egos
doom is a wordsmith you said it perfectly! i dig your channel, good stuff. if i remember correctly there was a bootleg pre-release of this that has the perfect version of figaro. find it, it's worth it.
All caps when u spell da man's name
my favorite hip hop album.
This is definitely one of my favorites by DOOM, but I think Vaudeville Villain or Mm...Food are probably my number 1. Either way you can't go wrong.
All time classic!! Bout time!
Crazy how the samples chosen re imagines a comic book or those old superhero cartoons it's crazy
I hadn't checked out this whole Madvillainy either and it's super dope! Kool Keith is the only other dude on the same level as DOOM, and he's just as unique and out there in terms of wordplay.
Livin' Astro is a classic song or just check out the whole Black Elvis/Lost in Space album. Certified hitter status. Stay good my dude 🤙
DJ Muggs & MF Doom - Assassination Day ( feat. Kool G Rap)🔥🔥🔥
Hope to hear your reaction to this one 🙏
Great video my guy, bad always. Appreciate you man. I have to ask are you going to be doing a listen on JPEG and Danny Browns Scarin the Hoes?
The crazy thing is fancy clown is a song about one doom persona’s girl cheating with him with a different doom persona, hence “that’s you if you want a man who wears a mask all day”. He’s talking about himself
This is instant classic. Mf doom is definitely in the argument for the goat of the genre. I mean it’s art. I mean you have no clue how many people bit the style, the originality, the flow, the persona. It’s truly a classic.
Not having it. You need to review these albums as well Quasimoto - Unseen album MF DOOM - MM FOOD, King Geedorah (MF DOOM) - Take me to your leader
it's never too late for discovery a legend, congrats , appreciate it
Fancy Clown is Doom rapping as his alter ego Victor Vaughn. Tin head is Doom lol lol. Genius lol. If u understand the comic book character of Doom it makes even more sense
The woman singing on "Eye" is called Stacy Epps as it says on the CD anyway never done any research on her tho tbh I'll have to tho 👍 great video and reaction anyway bro

"his girl is home alone
tryin to fet the >bone
Doom is BUILT DIFFERENT 💪🏾 Mans flow is ridiculous and immortal. Madlib is the most prolific producer EVER. Dude been forcing industry fans to come see him in the underground since the 90s. From Loot Pack to Quasimoto to every well known rapper who has Madlib tracks,
Madlib is the GOAT ihmo. It blows my mind how he puts out so much quantity AND quality. I own 49 of his projects and counting.
GHOST is MY all-time 🐐, and in my opinion, SUPREME CLIMATE is a MASTERPIECE!!!
The lady singing on "Eye" is Stacy Epps
I knew that part in Money Folder would get you Bruh!!!😂 Pan it. Can’t understand it, ban it. The underhanded planned it, ranted , and left him stranded!!!
That seems aimed at Electra record company who dropped KMD from the label when he (Zev Love X) presented their second album to them "Black Bastards". This led to the creation of MF DOOM; with greatness soon to follow🎉🎉🎉
You hit the nail on the head, brother: Figaro is a masterpiece and specimen of wordplay plus flow. The best hip hip MC track to many rap fans.
Money Folder, hands down my favorite track on the album. Showcases DOOM's rhymes and Madlib's godly and jazzy production the best.
“Flipped it like madlib did an old jazz standard”
I like Figaro most , that beat is heavy asf
You got to hear JJ DOOM - Guv'nor
21:57
i remember 1 song he opens with 'EY, YALL CANT STAND RIGHT THERE'
that kills me 😂
That's a track off of tha Operation Doomsday album
Ahmad love the reactions, couple of DOOM songs you haven't done yet that maybe you would enjoy... Benzie Box, Sofa King, Monkey Suite... Also I'd love to see you react to some of the posthumous collabs like Nujabes x MF DOOM ... favorite track off that is "Minced at Dawn"
Get your DOOM poster up on that wall, dude.NIce" reacts to" video. Subscribed!
“Hock-thooin’ songs lit in the booth with the best host, doin’ bong hits on the roof in the west coast…”
I think you might be ready for Brownsville KA - Orpheus vs The Sirens album (took a second to even think of the crazest of the crazy dope to start you on 😆 all are Greats) you might be 🤔... he's write like a battle rapper. ..Them double and Triple entendre and crazy wordplay every line quotable and metaphors. You have to listen closely, like putting together a puzzle 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I HOPE YOU READY 😳 NO CAP, I WISH I AM BUT...
the production quality is crazy, and it got released in 2004, damn...
This album is so dope! Legendary status 👍
Quasimoto is Madlib in case you don't know.
I peep that in the middle of the reaction 💯
