You're dead on. Disturbed specifically made this song for the US soldiers abroad in 2008. The singer stated this in an interview

If you’re interested that character is the Dark Messiah AKA “The Guy”, he’s Disturbed’s mascot and he was designed by Todd McFarlane. Apparently there’s going to be a comic book too.
Fyi Todd also is the creator of Spawn. Who was an undead magical being created by a(not the) devil to assist in recruiting evil men for his army. He rebelled and eventually fought for heaven in the comics

How have i listened to disturbed for as long as i can remember, and not realize that their mascot was drawn by The legend Todd Mcfarlane.
As a veteran myself this really hit home and the words are spot on he did a great job with this song!👍🇺🇸
Thought this might clear up the question of dual meaning. From Wikipedia: "In March 2008, Disturbed performed a concert in Kuwait for the United States military stationed there. The concert was streamed live on MySpace, and more than three million people viewed it." Can confirm. Was on the way to Baghdad, JUST missed the show. I did sweet talk the lady at the PX, and slice into the cargo pallet a few hours early for my copy of the album. Core memory unlocked.
So the song came about because a soldier met the band amd handed them his Battle Buddy's MP3 player. When they turned it on, the last song that way playing was a Disturbed track. Meaning the last song he listened to before being killed was Disturbed. The band had stated that this interaction was humbling and extremely emotional. So they wanted to create an anthem to really amp up our soldiers and put them in mental state to give them the best chance of coming home. Then this song was created.

Play it louder, it helps! And, yup, Max is right on. This song was MADE FOR THE TROOPS. My brother, 82nd Airborne, 1st striker, this is the song they used for their yearbook vid. Because they KICKED ASS!! Hoo-Ah!
One of my absolute favorite songs with military vibes. This used to be my anthem for my first semester of my senior year when I was in Strength and Conditioning. And you are 100% right, I could always get 1 or 2 more reps when this song was going in my ears.
Another great song/set of songs are the "Warrior Song" variants. There's a main version, and a version more specially catered to each branch of the military. I would 100% recommend "Hard Corps", which is the Marine Corps version. I think you'll love it.

He's like disturbed's mascot. He's been on most of the albums and even appears in some of the videos. Land Of Confusion is an amazing video, also with the guy. Dude David can spit bars better than some rappers! Disturbed are the tits!
There was an interview where he talked about how someone played Disturbed for his troops before missions and that (at that point) no one has ever died. Basically, used Disturbed to hype up his group. Lead singer felt a sense of duty and appreciation and made the song for the troops to get pumped up, thinking specifically of the one who used Disturbed to pump up his own troops for real war.

Make no mistake. Soldiers do not do it for the government. We do it because we believe the mission is right. We fight to bring home all of our brothers and sisters. And, we can deny unlawful orders. Lol I listened to this song while I was deployed I joined the army after high school in 2009 1st platoon A.Co 126 there is truth to the song if your in a tick or fighting for your live I think it's better to feel like your going destroy what in front of you than to be scared and slow to act slowly with indecisive lol mind set can mean so much at times
Another bad ass song by them is called are you ready. Talks about not being controlled and not being someone that could be prayed upon. It's so good

Disturbed is one of my favorite bands ever, only second to MetallicA. I saw them live just before my birthday last summer and when they played Indestructible it was totally lit. One of my favorite songs.

I served 6 years in US Navy. We do not follow orders without question. We can disobey unlawful orders. For example, I was ordered to work on a live electrical circuit, despite that I was not an electrician. I refused. In the end, my superior that gave that order was disciplined for giving an unlawful order.

@@b2g121795 yup, that’s my opinion. Feel the same way about several other bands I used to love listening to. Korn, FFDP, Godsmack, All That Remains, and Volbeat are some more. I can listen to any of those bands older stuff all day long, but I think they’ve changed their sound too much and I can’t be the only one who feels that way. Not saying I hate every single song any of them have put out since then, but it just doesn’t do it for me. At the end of the day, all of them have done more with their lives and have talent and success I’ll never have, but I personally hate the way they sound now. Meanwhile bands like Lamb of God, Machinehead, Parkway Drive, Periphery have kept my interest the whole time. New Slipknot is still pretty good and Bullet For My Valentine has taken a turn for the better since the last few albums. Once again, my opinion.
