- Official music video for the single "The Man with the Child in His Eyes" written by British singer Kate Bush.
"The Man with the Child in His Eyes" is the fifth track on Kate's debut album The Kick Inside. It was released as her second single on 26th May 1978.
The song reached number six in the UK in 1978 and eighty-five in the US Billboard Pop Singles chart in 1979. - Видеоклипы
As a punk rocker back in the 1970's, Kate, I'd lie in my bed at night with my transistor radio, listening to all the new punk tracks being released worldwide. Then, one night, one of the radio presenters said this, "There's this new girl who's appeared on the scene, I don't know how to describe her, her name is Kate Bush and this track is called 'Wuthering Heights'...
Well, it's 2023 and the old punk rocker still loves you to this day, dear lady :) .
Hell yes. I'm rather ashamed that I never knew anything of Kate Bush until I dated a girl in 1989 who was into Kate Bush. I've been a fan (as in fanatic) in every sense of the word since.
I love this song too, this is my favorite band, perhaps unknown for you:

I´ll enjoy the Kate Bush discography for my lifetime...
How did you come up with the idea to ask what year I'm listening? Wow
me.
❤ I am 🥰
People need to stop asking if anyone is still listening
We never stopped!
This is our Kate .. why would we ??
Are you still listening then?! 🤔😂
❤❤❤
Haven't listened for a few years. Why? WOW!!!
YES! it annoys the shit outta me! Like the top comment, absolutely pointless, just hoping they’ll get loads of replies to satisfy their boring little souls.
I agree. We never stopped.
In an age where anyone can be famous for anything, This is what a proper musical genius sounds like.
But perhaps not what it looks like!
Still waiting for my 15 minutes…
That is really sad but It is true
I so agree!
I respect that opinion, but it's not really true. It's unfortunately the media that are controlling culture now and music from the grassroots has a much more difficult time to get heard. And just think how many pubs there used to be where bands starting out could play - mostly gone now. Would we have known the Beatles without the Cavern? I am absolutely sure there is still a lot of talent out there that has no exposure. The fault for this is with the older generations who turned their noses up at culture in the pursuit of greed. 'Taking back control' is the biggest irony.
When you can write a song like this when you're 13 years old, you must have a old soul. Absolutely fantastic!
Humanity is so much more than it knows of itself.

In '91 my then fiancee and I had a bike accident in which she died, when her things were being sent back to her mother they found a photo' of me on that particular 'bike, on the reverse of the photo' was the title of this song. Now 29 years later this upload caught my attention and I'm crying again the same way that I did that night.
RIP Denise, I think about you every day.
Sending very gentle hugs 🤗

What other artist have you heard of that had written over 200 songs at age 16/17. I don’t think I can name another. I wish it was like it was back in the old days. Real musicians who made real music and had real talent, not the machine music we have now. Kate is one of a kind!

At some point in your life, if you're lucky, you will hear a piece of music, a song or just a woman's voice. This Song represents all of those and so much more to me. I first heard this in 1978 at 18 years old, I am now 62 very nearly 63, 45 years and it still gives me goose bumps. It will be played at my funeral when I die (no plans anytime soon though) Kate's music continues to blow me away to this day. Genius.
Please, please, please, as a massive fan of Kate's, if you haven't already listen to *"The Kiss"* by *Judee Sill.*
Now sadly dead she wrote some amazing tracks but that one is so, so special. I think Kate is a big fan too. 👍

Ditto, ditto, mate. I just turned 60, and a few weeks ago I suddenly had an urge to listen to Kate Bush again. She is a genius, no doubt
Mesmerizing to me this song, I just wish it was a little longer. As teen back in the early 80s I would wait for its turn to be played on MTV, I really liked MTV in its infantsy different kinds of music VIDEOS.
Kate vibrates a little higher than most of us. ❤️
"vibrates a little higher"

Love this comment
Great comment, so true. That's what true genius does - sends something out there that us lesser mortals don't fully understand, but helps what we're feeling make sense.
I'm grieving my love who died a month ago. He was 17 when I met him and he just died at 70. I feel his presence and every word in these lyrics seems to make perfect sense to me. How would a 13 year old girl write that?
Thanks for sharing. Love Caroline in Australia 🇦🇺
I'm sorry for your loss :(
im so sorry for your loss hope this song helps your sadness
Blessings to you❤
Uff, that the day I dread the most. I met my love with 17 as well. now we are in our 40´s.
I'm a grown man and this song reduces me to a gibbering wreck every time
When we we ever lose this bizarre notion that grown men shouldn't really cry? It's so unhealthy to think that tears must be ostensibly be hidden - by _any_ adult, whatever their gender...
"Maybe he doesn't love me-- I just took a trip on my love for him?' If a 13 year old really wrote that it leaves me speechless....
I know - such unbelievable insight.
Why does it leave you speechless?
She was articulating feelings about a relationship with an older man. There was an older musician in her life at this time who acted as her mentor. Unrequited teenage love? She's highly intelligent & we know she was incredibly articulate. People initially write from experience..
read that comment just as she said the line lol
This woman is operating on a different artistic level. She is hard- wired into English culture of the last 50 years. She makes songs of incomparable beauty.
Kate is actually half Irish on her Mothers Side.

This song makes me think of my darling dead husband. He was the man with the child in his eyes - always open, trusting, loving to those who loved him. I have a picture of him aged three. To his family he stayed as true hearted and generous as that child all his life.

Thank you Kate, thank you for all the beautiful moments I was able to experience with your music.
Masterpiece, written at the age of 13......Mindblowing!!!
At 13, when Kate wrote this, she seems to have a mind many years ahead. Now she is in her 60's and I've discovered, she really was so unique, a gift to all of us, that's so rare. Thank you Kate Bush.
I didn't know that. These lyrics would be amazing if written by an adult with many hits under her belt.
@@kurtissjacobs5618 She rolled up at 16 years of age to sign her contract with a posse of lawyers. EMI were terrified of her. Old head on young shoulders.
This track is haunting and beautiful.. .it doesn't age ..sounds good over 40 years later...a master piece of writing...⭐
I just described it as beautifully haunting also.
Some people don’t understand how amazing she is. Talk about perfect pitch. She’s like her own instrument that can’t be replicated
That's how I describe her voice. A musical instrument.
Plus she is self taught
Yes, - she is utterly unique!!!
So you understand the meaning of perfect pitch?
But some do.
LYRICS:
I hear him, before I go to sleep
And focus on the day that's been
I realise he's there
When I turn the light off and turn over
Nobody knows about my man
They think he's lost on some horizon
And suddenly I find myself
Listening to a man I've never known before
Telling me about the sea
All his love is 'til eternity
Ooh, he's here again
The man with the child in his eyes
Ooh, he's here again
The man with the child in his eyes
He's very understanding
And he's so aware of all my situations
When I stay up late
He's always waiting, but I feel him hesitate
Oh, I'm so worried about my love
They say, "No, no, it won't last forever!"
And here I am again, my girl
Wondering what on Earth I'm doing here
Maybe he doesn't love me
I just took a trip on my love for him
Ooh, he's here again
The man with the child in his eyes
Ooh, he's here again
The man with the child in his eyes
Personally think she is the greatest female artist ever .
Together with tori amos
100% agree
Totally agree.
The greatest artist of modern music, period. A talented writer and singer of incredible versatility and range, who has always treated her own work with respect. Not clinging to whatever has proven successful, nor doing "new" things for the sake of being "edgy". Her music feels as if it has not been written for us; she's doing her own thing and we're just along for the ride. I am so glad that young people of today are rediscovering this wonderful music.
The only female artist to have an album in the top ten in each of the past four decades, didnt do a show in over twenty years but still managed to sell out two shows in the 02 arena within 15 minutes of tickets going on sale, of course she is!
Eccentric, creative, a little bonkers, original, classy, genius. The legend that is Kate 👌🏻

My favourite Kate Bush song. Beautiful.
Mine to.
Despite an endless supply of brilliant material I'm not sure she ever beat this song and video. Both are mesmerising. Her vocal is also velvet perfection and a brilliantly composed piano piece.
The highest praise I can give her is that I regarded her as the female equivalent of Bowie. Her incorporation of dance and mime into her act, wonderful songs and videos and sheer originality made her the best British artiste of her time. Her superlative talent only highlighted by the sheer dross around today.
Equivalent of David Bowie! That is so spot on!
Bowie couldn't lace her boots.

Her best song IMO. And she wrote it when she was 13. Freak of nature and I'm so thankful that I share my little slice of life with her.
She saw a light and she followed
In the 1970s i met a girl while on holiday, we were young and fell in love. I never saw her again but I still miss her to this day. This song was on the radio at that time and I think of her whenever i hear it as if it was just yesterday. I hope you had a good life Suzanne T.

@mikeweber5362 Rick knows his stuff. Kate sang and played piano at 16, after writing it at 13. composed most of the first two albums before she was 15.
She wrote this when she was thirteen. Incredible.

52 and it did and still does the same to me... Beautiful
Me too. It’s because I wanted her to write it for me. For someone to think that of you. To this day this reaches in. I’m ex military and I still have no idea why.
She actually wrote this at the age of 13 and recorded at 16.
Next time you watch one of these endless stream of TV talent shows and the wannabees (having sang yet another cover song) are told , "you are marvellous" , please remember that fact and appreciate what a real musical genius is!
pookie dad I've always loved this song as I imagined a woman with a man who had childish attributes, therefore a man with a child in his eyes, like me.
What you're saying is something very different. If a 13 year old child wrote this about her lover then it's a man with a child in his eyes.
This song was on the cremation of my grandpa,😭😭😫😫
Yeah, well said. Puts it all into perspective huh?
Respect to him. Preserve and promote that part of your thinking that honours your grandpa that such a great song was used in his commemoration. It always speaks volumes to the character of a person in who remembers him and how he is remembered. Having this song as a tribute surely means he enjoyed the love of many for how he lived. My condolences mate.
Copy that buddy
This never fails to bring tears. I especially love the use of the French horn in its medium to upper register--such warmth! And when the horn doubles Kate in the chorus, it's so effective!
Good analysis man.
Played the clarinet in school but always loved the French horn
It's the descending harmonies that lead into the chorus that I enjoy the most. Well crafted song, but there could have been a greater emphasis on melody over the harmonies I mentioned.
@@crescentsi Great observation about the harmonies. They do lend a very dreamy tone to that part of the song. They kind of remind me of the descending chromaticism in the passage where Wotan evokes the magic fire music at the end of Walkuere.
Pause for a moment as you enjoy the sublime Kate Bush, and remember that she was *_JUST 13 YEARS OLD_* when she wrote this masterpiece... 🖤
Wow what a song!!
beautiful, haunting. She goes right to your soul.
Even though this is a very early composition of hers, I think musically speaking, it may be her best song.

I fell in love with Kate Bush when I was a teenager. I'm 61 now and she is still a Goddess to me.
This girl is a genius.
Hands down the most talented woman to ever grace our ears. The way she modulates is incredible.
It's completely ridiculous that someone could write something so lyrically perfect at 13 years old. Occasionally, artists come along that are more than gifted. Kate is definitely one of them.
How many artists can say they write their own songs, play many of the instruments, choreograph their videos and sing, play, dance, and perform so perfectly.
The fact that many of her hits were written as a teenager is crazy
She's a genius

Interesting to note...... Kate was 13 when writing this, makes it 1971. That was the year of two other classic albums by extremely talented women..... "Tapestry" by Carole King and "Blue" by Joni Mitchell........
What I've always loved about this song is that part where she sings "Oooh, he's here again" and it's like her voice becomes one with the brass instrumental of the song. Totally enchanting.

Quote from Kate Bush (forward to How to Be Invisible Lyric Book)
A few years ago I happened to meet the man I'd been madly in love with when I was about thirteen. It had been a real schoolgirl's crush, and he had had no idea. When I told him that he was 'The Man with the Child in his Eyes' , and that I had written the song for him, he was extremely surprised. I got the feeling it kind of made his day, but I don't think he ever told anyone. I'm not sure he really believed me.
She also indicates she was 15 not 16 when she recorded the final version of the song as it was in the middle of her mock O levels making it 1974 rather than the usually reported 1975.
We finally know the mystery to the song!
