Contestant got burned by the panel on the dumb Dora question, however she did prevail in the end, I guess sometimes justice is served. It's kinda cool to see this episode in its original imperfect state
Thank you so much for uploading this episode! I couldn't believe Richard didn't say Grand Canyon but how he brought up "Benedict Canyon" at 16:29 before he revealed his "hamburger" answer had me dying with laughter 😂
It is indeed where 10500 Cielo Drive is, site of the Polanski residence. But in fairness, at least the audience match answers do have a certain Los Angeles cultural bias, so Benedict Canyon isn't *that* bad (though it's not the obvious answer, which is Grand Canyon). What was that local wine that showed up as an audience match question earlier in 1974?
Being a pilot, he was obviously very bright- but he whiffed on the farmer's daughter response. I enjoyed his exit when he said he would give the money to his daughter. Great sense of humor!
Lordy this episode was NUTS. Rayburn talks a mile a minute and gets annoying AF form time to time. "HEY YOU DIDN'T MATCH ANYTHING DID YOU OH WELL GO F THIS OR THAT TOO BAD SPAT!"😆😆😆😆
Probably one of the few times from 1973-1978 that the contestant could match literally ANYONE ELSE, and Richard goofs it up. I wonder which one is a worse gimme fail, (blank) Canyon or Cuckoo (blank)?
Usually Richard is surprisingly knowledgeable about US culture and history. And if foreigners know just one thing about US geography, it's usually the Grand Canyon. He was really off his oats this program.
One of the all-time easiest head-to-head match questions ever. One of the all-time most spectacular celebrity fails ever... Great entertainment, all for free! Thank you MatchGameProductions and thank you You Tube!
Watch episodes from 73. Dawson was terrible and wasn't called on near as much in the super matches. I think the producers gave him the 500 dollar answers a lot of the time. How else did he go from hardly ever matching in 73 to almost always giving the 500 answer from 74 on?
OK.....WAIT A MINUTE......THEY USED THIS SAME COLUMBO QUESTION A FEW EPISODES BACK! Gene even imitated COLUMBO with a cigar in his mouth and his collar turned up!
I saw some interview where he said he spent all his money, didn't save. Also, he was supporting his mother. But yes, it's surprising he didn't have at least one spare.
Today Richard was chosen for the H/H match for an amazing 150th time! (Despite the fact that Betty and Charles are on the panel, with their excellent track records of matching contestants!) ...and poor Richard was booed for his terrible answer to a question that should have been a slam-dunk match... Here's the updated leader board for the 8 celebs to have scored 3 or more H/H matches so far, ranked by their current accuracy scores: Orson - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Betty - 52.2% (12 wins in 23 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Charles - 44.1% (15 wins in 34 attempts). Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). Richard - 32.0% (48 wins in 150 attempts). Brett - 28% (7 wins in 25 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 327, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

For all your harping on Dawson, who lives rent-free in your brain for some reason even though he's been dead for over a decade (I guess he was attractive or something, or you were a Colonel Klink fan), do you know what the difference between Dawson and the other panelists is? Seven-and-a-half games through this episode. Dawson is 48-for-150, while the others are 77-for-208. Nobody watching the show casually could actually spot that 5% difference, which is mostly random chance anyways. (You expect some people playing the game to match more or less often than pure dumb luck even assuming everyone has the same ability, and Dawson is less than a full standard deviation off the average.)
I could watch for hours...one feels how much fun they all truly had making this wonderful show!!! 💜🙋♀️😘🎶🙊
Panelists:
1. Arte Johnson
2. Brett Somers
3. Charles Nelson Reilly
4. Michelle Lee
5. Richard Dawson
6. Betty White
Did anyone watch Arte Johnson on Laugh In?
Arte's a little rude, especially when he tells Gene to stop talking.
Yes, and he snored loudly in his microphone while Richard was talking
One of those times when the contestant outsmarts the panel, cigar was clearly a superior response to Columbo question.
Acethisspace And I thought “Dumb Dora threw herself overboard” was the best answer as well.
Not so rare an occurrence, numerous times a contestant gave a clever answer the 6"ding-a-lings" didn't match
Oh man it's as if the panel omitted cigar on purpose, especially after they fucked up on the dumb Dora question
Is the worst Art that is negative to all the people.

Love Arte's banana shirt (unbelievable he's 90 years old now!)!

Benedict is the galaxy meteor which created the Grand Canyon
Benedict Canyon isn't even all that famous in Los Angeles. Topanga Canyon and Malibu Canyon are way better-known.
For anybody who is interested, Benedict Canyon is a locality in Los Angeles, a ravine just north of Beverly Hills.
I've heard of it and never even been to California. It must be a well known canyon there.
Actually, isn't that where Sharon Tate lived maybe???
That's where Richard lived
I could be wrong but I think some of the Little Rascals episodes may have been shot in that area?
