Great footage and great seeing all that 37 action. I used to see the double headers going to Ravenscraig daily as I lived close to the line. Hee haw now. Grangemouth only sees about 6 trains in and out a week now. Sad days.
@@yesterdaystracks A lot of the traffic has stopped. It went to diesel depots like Eastfield and fuel depots like Bishopbrigs which have all closed. All west highland oil traffic is done by road now.
The 47 had detached from its train during the run round movement but was held at the groundframe, released by Grangemouth Jnc box, much longer than expected, the brakes on the wagons leaked off and they ran into the 47 pushing it off the catch points. The wagons were moved very quickly but the engine laid there for some time, with run round moves being done at Larbert.
Great piece of nostalgic footage. Visited Grangemouth on a number of occasions back in the 80's but never got round to filming there. I have subscribed.
Thanks Colin, aw man they were so good at G’mouth you never got refused entry even us as young lads , we used to climb all over them in the shed 😅 I have loads of photos too, would a photo montage be boring on RUclips 🤔
I think a photo montage from this era would be perfect if you fancy giving it a go. I have a few from the 80s but not enough to warrent them being shown.
Brilliant video! So much 37 action, including split head code early versions. The poor 47, caught by the catch points! The HST in the screaming valenta era too. I like seeing action from my local area too.
Brilliant Video !! 37 heaven. Single and double +clag. Poor 47 on the dirt. Must've come down with a bump lol. Leading wheel climbing the opposite check rail. Oddly the points look set for straight on. Guessing they moved under the loco. Bet the 125 driver was red faced lol. Impressive clag, followed by an overload shutdown 😂. Loved the shot of the Semaphore Calling on signal for 409 to come onto the depot. Another entertaining vid. Not the usual,, train passing a camera. 😀👍😎
I would guess the driver was in No 1 end reversing through the loop and ran out of track. Those points are trap points used to trap trains in loops or sidings so they do not run out onto the main line against a danger signal. Looks like they did their job preventing a possible head on collision on the main. No doubt the driver had a bit of explaining to do
I was working in Falkirk at the time of the derailed 47 but never went to see it. I had a wander round the Grangemouth shed in 1993 after it was shut and the SRPS diesel group were in there about 2000 to recover various items, some of which are at the west end of the diesel shed.
Oohhh wonder if anything is in the museum now? I took loads of photos as I was going to model the shed but being 20 , wasn’t much time for scratch building 🤣
Class 47 clickbait....but apart from that it was class 37 heaven...oh lord can't wait for mine from accruscale...I have too many, but they are the best diesel we have ever produced..🙏🇬🇧
Great video, never realised Grangemouth was such a 37 hot spot. So who picked up the bag the driver left on the ballast when he got on the blue 37. The driver who came of ignores it. Wonder if it is still there!
🤣🤣 Yeah Grangemouth was incredible for 37’s , always on shed and they never turned you away for a wee look around either 👌 Absolutely amazing memories !!, I’m sure the bag was picked up maybe I’ve just cut the edit too soon 😬
@@yesterdaystracks Never turned away, Same with ML depot. As long as you made a couple of £ donation for the depot cat. 😉. Ask to go round a depot now, they'd think you're a fucking terrorist. 😣. Mind you fuck all worth seeing now.
You got some amazing sound and pictures captures in the whole film. Those heavy oil tanks really brought the best out of the 37s. I remember them on the bitumen down at Preston docks years back. Very special video, thanks for sharing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍👍👍
@@erzahler1930 great to hear from you , I’ve been watching film of them and yes they do sound quite similar, maybe more like our class 40’s which whistled 😃
Funny that it is seen as a golden era. At the time it seemed like the railways were ever contracting and that apart from city commutes, everything was in decline. I think that on the whole, trains have become ever more functional and less interesting as the decades progressed since the end of steam.
Catch points doing their thang successfully, I would imagine that would have been a proper red nose for driver if it was his error and not the points motor failing lol
Fantastic footage. Thanks for sharing
That HST Driver must of been on a promise lol excellent vid
🤣🤣 he was very late, quite annoyed wasn’t he 🤣🤣 then cocked up the getaway 🤣🤣
@@yesterdaystracks I thought that!! never seen an HST overloaded if that's what it was, but sounded like it.
Applied a load of traction before brake released then notched up way quicker than was (and still is) usual.

I’ll certainly give it a shot , how long a video could you stand of just photos ?
As many as you feel you want to show i guess. What floats my boat may not do so for others ofcoarse.

Do they still ride trains by standing on the ladder and holding on for dear life as in that last sequence starting at 14:30 ?
No that’s long gone 😅
Great to see Grangemouth as it was .Passed the depot going to work great to see all the diesels waiting in the early morning
Nothing there now sadly 😢
🚂👍
The joke from me for 3:20 is: "That's a lot of tenders!"

37358 with split boxes, odd one that, wonder what the story is with this?
There were a few 37/0's fitted with re-geared CP7 bogies for a time and renumberd in the 373xx series. 37358 was 37118, renumbered in November 1988.
said action is implicit in "derailment" and oughtn't be baited towards derailed traffic, bon homme
4:49 I can hear the driver, "i can explain, it was kike this"

Was a very common 37 at Grangemouth , thanks for researching 👍
