- Well after I witnessed the pike spawning I decided it was an opportunity for me to not only feed these hungry pike, but also film it in the process. I got pike strikes on the surface and beneath it. Some of these takes were super savage and makes for great viewing. Hope you Enjoy!

Didn't realize the UK had such a stigma against using live bait. Interesting and admirable. Here in the U.S we use like 2lb sucker fish live for musky/pike and some people even use live carp for giant catfish. Some people even use small pike for bigger pike/musky
A cracking informative video. It shows, maybe, how best to use a lure in this situation. Great footage, I hope it gets the recognition it deserves.

Here in the Canadian province of Alberta, pike get a bad rap, snooty trout anglers look down on them 🤨 I love them because they take no prisoners, & they attack anything you throw at them 👌😎🎣
This is just grim, Chris. Using livebaits is one thing, but keeping them out there to be constantly terrorised and injured by the pike, as had clearly happened to a few of those fish judging by the conditions of them, is awful.
What do you think that roach feels when hes under a float on a hook when you have casted it in its the same thing only difference is now its a guy holding it not a float but you cant criticize a float i guess

I fish, I sometimes eat what I catch, I've used livebaits... but having a fish attacked over and over again while it's in its death throes for RUclips footage is a bit OTT. Could've just killed the roach first instead of putting it through this, the pike wouldn't care.
I wish you had a polarized lens for the "above water" shots.

Chris - some great footage - however...
Was it REALLY necessary to continually use the same livebait over, and over, and over again? - you could see by the wounds on the fish that they had been attacked more than once.
Your footage showed dead fish on the surface that you were 'twitching' - why couldn't you have just done this with shop bought deadbaits?
I have nothing against livebaiting (though don't use it - I'm a lure and deadbait angler), as it probably outfishes every other method of targetting Predators - but to continually put a fish through that? - and for your classification of entertainment for your channel? - that's cold.
By the way, you weren't really 'feeding' Pike............pretty sure that as the apex predator, they would have found the same shoals of Roach and Rudd that you did and decimated them naturally.

Let's hope that there are plenty more Roach in that canal mate. You may have to be helping their stocks next after this session. Great footage though. The pike may have spawned but it seems that they are pretty lively after doing so. All the best mate.
Watching their behaviour, in this amazing video GF (bravo), as well as watching from the banks, illustrates how Pike really are Wolves of the water ways. They way they see, approach, evaluate and sometimes move on,... tell me they arent smart creatures

No hate just a little confused, you let them eat the live bait and release them? Or you catch and kill them? How are you "giving back"? as you say.
The bait is just tied onto light 3lb mono (no hooks) so when the pike takes the live bait they get a free meal

Don't pretend this is for the fish's benefit, there's a reason live bait is banned, partly because it's one step away from using dynamite in skill level and mostly because in the long run cruelty is what'll mean the end for all angling.
Its perfectly legal in England and on the water I was fishing

Hello Chris, nice video and interesting shots. We are not allowed to fish with live bait fish in Germany, but it would have been the same with dead bait fish. Please keep it up.

I dont know if you will see this but there is a reservoir near me called farmoor reservoir and it hold great fish it has pike up to 40lbs and trout up to 15lbs

It's only closed season on rivers. Most canals and ponds don't have a closed season
