The Cantonese (Hong Kong /Dim Sum) cuisine is probably the best-known Chinese foods. These are the ones that hang their roast ducks, chickens, cuttle-fish/octopus, crunchy roast pork/pig in the glass display/window. The "mom and pop" restaurants are very noisy and festive. And I believe it should be so because everyone should eat joyfully as if you're at home enjoying your foods.

The Dutch call them "loempia" because Indonesians call them so, and there're so many Indonesians in Holland.
The origin of "loempia " is actually Chinese Spring Rolls. Chinese migrants have spread the spring rolls to overall South East Asia gazillion years ago. The Indonesian locals called them lumpia. Then came the Dutch... 😂

If you don't like one dish, then pick another one. There's nothing overrated about it.

Next time, you should try the "mom and pop" Dim Sum restaurant, those are the best and cheaper. The one where they push the carts around for you to pick which dish you want to try. The majority of the "Dim Sum" dishes are supposed to be steam dish NOT deep fry stuff. Some of good ones that I didn't see you guys try are (small pieces -Ribs with black beans, shrimp/beef rice rolls, Tripe/honeycomb with ginger and black beans, tofu sheet rolls-with meat, sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves). These are my all-times favorite dishes (of course chicken feet) and they are steam dishes. They should be 1/3 of the price of a regular dish. From my experience, fancy restaurants foods are average at best. They are for business and dates.

A family of four, 2 adults, 200 kuai max for a similar kind of authentic Dim Sum in Shenzhen big hotels. Hotel buildings usually designate an entire floor for this kind of restaurants. Authentic & packed! Forget about Marriott, Shangri-La, Hilton these kind of global chains, look for 3, 4 or 5 star Chinese-name big hotels, SZ local ones. Usually Saturday/Sunday branch special deals. Some even offer all-you-can-eat Dim Sum buffet at an attractive price. There must be many in Shekou, Nanshan, particularly Luohu.

Hello family, some context for y'all...
    1. Cantonese people do not eat "dim sum", instead they go "yum cha"... which literally translates to "drink tea". Going to yum cha is going to eat a dim sum breakfast/brunch/lunch/late lunch for Guandong folks.
    2. Yes, "dim sum" literally translates to "pointing to the heart", meaning ordering the small baskets/plates of food you want. Some of the bigger items that people order (ie. fried noodles) aren't really dim sum, but it will still be available.
    3. Chicken feet in Cantonese translates as "phoenix claws". You know by now, Chinese dishes aren't always literal or makes sense by its name... there's usually some other context or story to it. For example, 口水鸡 (Kou Shui Ji) literally means “Saliva Chicken”, but it implies that it is "mouth-watering" and tasty chicken. So, the red rice roll you had is a variation of (Cheung Fun, 腸粉) the very popular Cantonese/Guandong dish... It literally translates to "pig intestine noodles" for its resemblance to, guess what? No, there are no organs in that dish.
    4. Yes, dim sum is an expensive meal no matter what country you have it in. This makes Cantonese people especially sad because it is a staple and they LOVE to go yum cha.
    5. David is a bad actor. He is still very unconvincing in his performance. LOL😆

"Dim sum" literally translated as "so close to the heart" and is a large range of hors d'oeuvres Cantonese people traditionally enjoy in restaurants (previously teahouses) for breakfast and lunch but never for dinner, washed down with tea. There are at least two thousand types of dim sum in total across China.
What you guys had was ONLY a very tiny selection of some of the assortment of dim sum and I am surprise you did not try the most common siu mai, char-siu-pau, wu-kok, etc (check out some of the most commonly dim sum eaten by Chinese people). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dim_sum

Very entertaining videos. Great job! Your kids are hooked on Chinese food. Be prepared that they might make China their permanent home.

I think Shrimp Dumpling and Xiao Mei (no English translation of this one as far as I know) plus BBQ Pork Streamed Bun are the real 'souls' of Dim Sum, Chicken Feet is not but probably the Cantonese Yum Cha the ONLY cuisine in the world where you can eat this part of chicken. If you are not biased nor scared of its shape, it actually tastes quite good. What you show in the video are also only part of the dim sum family and there are more than these. :) Btw, your daughter is pretty and adorable. 😄

awesome video, no any offending, After visiting USA and Europe, I have to say Chinese food is much healthy than the west. Western countries consume too much meet and suger.

the har gao/prawn dumpling is not authentic as it is too big as it has to be a one biter.... the top prawn dumpling is quite juicy inside so if it's too big, those few drops of juice will run out and the whole experience is ruined.... next time you have har gao, the bigger definitely not the better...

    深圳蘩樓的點心對香港人來説仍不算合格。但它裝修得很漂亮。而深圳的廣式酒樓好像没有早茶。香港的酒樓都有早茶。很多人一大早就去嘆一盅兩件了!😊
