I often think of it as disrespect that many Americans think that all Asians are Chinese. Maybe I should not feel so bad knowing that many Chinese think that all dark skinned people are African. We are not all African. Dark skinned people have always inhabited the entire World. To limit us to Africa is limiting our birthright to our lands around the World. As a Black American, I can go back many generations without ever finding an African in my lineage, yet Polish, Italian, German etc come to our country and claim to be American after only 1 or 2 generations.
But the main original phenotype and genes of African-Americans is still African, having a white slave-owning great great grandfather is not sufficient enough to assert one is no longer 'African' . No need to deny your African roots. There are other black peoples outsode of Africa - yes, such as Aboriginals of Australia, Fijians, the Papua New Guinea peoples and the tribes of the Andaman Islands. As for black people currently in the Middle East, India, Caribbean and the Americas - they all originally hail from Africa. Not sure why there is this denial and desire to claim ahistorical ethnic origins which are either based on myth, pseudo-history or an inferiority complex.
