How do you get a warning in advance? The only thing I can come up with is distance. If the alert goes out immediately without delay the second the earthquake strikes and I reiterate the second it strikes only then would the alert be received perhaps before the earthquake wave reaches a specific area farther away……
I felt it, it was weird because only my bed felt like it was moving, but my window curtains didn't move at all as they usually do. I'm in South Central LA
I got the early warning and took cover but felt nothing. Still, better to have a warning and feel nothing than not to have a warning for an actually large earthquake.
I was born and raised in Gardena it sure has changed since the 80s I do but at the same time don't miss it. Free advice don't go to Arizona unless you like the heat ..
She has the bona fide credentials but she's only using feed from a well-established USGS/CGS seismological network. Lucy Jones has been retired since 2016, so she's readily available, without having to dance around budget cuts. Her resources are world class.
Was this the first time that an earthquake, or a series of aftershocks has shaken such a large area? I can’t recall any earthquake that’s been felt across different counties in California at the same time.
Idk about anyone else but it felt stronger than that. This is the first time in a long time I have seen the house sway. It’s usually minor and maybe the blinds move but that’s the extent of it.
Crazy!! Dreamed I was lying in the back of our pick up truck, looking up at the rear window. Opened my eyes to see the old venetian blinds going crazy, then my dad coming in to get me but he had to hang on to the walls to walk. Never forget that one or the Northridge quake with so many aftershocks.
I knew it was coming and a bigger one is coming. 1st of all this past saturday in LA over 100 people called 911 for loud booms. 2 The guizers in yellowstone exploded higher than normal about 2 weeks ago. 3rd of all I gotta get the heck out of here tomorrow. Ive been here on vacation for a month. Dam if im going to be stuck.
And 21 hours later I'm still getting notifications on my phone with multiple other quakes (or aftershocks) since then, I haven't counted them but I've gotten at least 20 different notifications between the first one And the one I got about 20 minutes ago, I also just heard that they do a lot of fracking in Grapevine! Now I'm really curious to find if they're currently still doing active fracking at these points!!🤔
@@joywest8411 Damn!! And thank you!! and yeah I turned off my notifications on app last night (since I live farther away and wasn't feeling anything) but I turned off notifications because I had to stay focused on what I was doing at home, but now hearing about more than 200 I'm REALLY glad of my choice of silencing notifications!! 😬
Felt the earthquake in my area, that are much more stronger shakes. I am in between Beverly Wilshire and Mid Wilshire faults. Please keep me updated. Thank you 🙏
It was most likely worse than 5.2 There were several stations that were over 6. The USGS reduced it to 5.2. Some independent seismologists are trying to understand why the USGS would do that.
This news station is so on reporting, even when their have live news at 8pm, i the earthquake about 9pm, it was a soft movement then shook little more solid.
It hit in Lamont,Ca at an oil & gas fracking area. Was larger than 5.2 w/ over 200 aftershocks. Sick of the newsy lies out there. And lame USGS always lowers Real magnitudes! A Fact. I noticed them doing it 2 decades ago! 👀
I told my boyfriend today around 5:00 pm. that there was going to be an earthquake within the next few days and I had said that it was going to be between 4.9-5.2 and I was right. I told him that it was going to be real soon and he wasn't sure if he believed me until I just told him that there was and I said the location of where it was going to happen at.
That's what i thought the Northridge 5.8 earthquake in 1987 felt like at first, but then it became obvious it was an earthquake as the rough shaking went on for about a long minute. We had a 4.9 aftershock (lots of smaller ones) a night later that was a rolling one. I live in Oklahoma now, and we had a 5.4 earthquake about nine years ago. That was wild, considering the location. Caused by fracking.
Santa Barbara Trader Joe’s parking lot on de la vina. They close at 9pm. I had just gotten in the driver’s seat, my phone alerted me and the ground was swaying! Luckily, no tall trees, no tall street lamps, no electric cables overhead. That’s the first thing I’m looking for - to get away from anything that could fall on me. I’ll look for that in advance before I park now! By the way, Santa Barbara had a month of earthquakes and mudslides in December 1812 AND an enormous tsunami. It went over three miles inland (they can travel 10 miles inland!). There were only Chumash living on the beach then. It was under Spanish rule. Now the beachfront has hotels, the funk zone, a college, a harbor, a wharf, thousands of tourists and locals will be caught in a traffic jam trying to escape.
It’s a strange feeling being in an earthquake. Bajas Easter earthquake in San Diego, hit when we were laying pavers outside. My wife was actually bouncing on the ground, “ EaRthQuAke. . . “ I looked back at our house wondering if it would shake off its pilings underneath our house?
Make it a routine thing: Go to your local city council and county supervisors meetings to get that answer. Take notes. Read Roberts Rules of Order...the parliamentary procedure has been around a very long time, so if you want your questions answered, you have to follow the Rules of Order...when you see how your tax dollars are being spent, you won't feel like you are being "taxed so much." Just by listening at the meetings, you might not have any questions because they might be answered in due time. BTW, 80 percent of the nation's fire departments are volunteer. They don't fight fires for free. Members who are on call or on duty get a stipend; if they actually answer a fire call they get a little bit more. They also don't buy their own gear in general. Districts raise money via a number of fundraising efforts, which includes state and federal allotments, grants, and donations to pay for everything from a fire truck to hoses to the hard hats and fire coats and pants they wear. They also get their training through tax dollars. So if you want to know where does your tax dollar goes, next time you see a building go up in flames, you can feel honored that you contributed to the lives of those who want to help others in the wake of a fire disaster.
We are getting these magnitude 5s quite frequently now. Wasnt it just last week Northridge had a mag 5? California might be trying to tell us something. Please make sure to be prepared for the heavy hitter. Were smack dab in ground zero territory. Its not said to scare you but to prepare you.
Did anyone else get that warning on your mobile phone? I got it, and about 5 seconds later, it hit. That was impressive!
My Nephew who lives in Lancaster did. He wasn't sure whether he liked the notice or not.
I never received, neither felt it.
I got it with about 5-7 seconds to spare - Outstanding!
EDIT: Location, Palmdale
I did in Santa Monica!
