    I think this competition was the finest pairs event ever. all three teams in the top were just incredible.

    She had nerves of steel; can you imagine skating in that much pain; and landing those jumps!
    Good for both of them; I miss their skating!

    G&G had the most chemistry and sync, D&M had the power, B&L had the most daring lifts. I really like this competition because all the medalists had their own unique style, compared to nowadays where everyone has the same routine
    B&L were underscored on technical merit btw, they were doing lifts that no one else were doing

    • @gk891

      A lot of their pairs moves (like lifts) were outstanding. I wonder if skating first in the last group hurt their marks a bit as the judges had to leave room for the other teams.

      @@gk891 That's definitely possible. Some of the scoring was questionable, but I agree with who they put on the podium

      @@gk891 I think it was that plus their individual technical moves aren't the best. Their spins are slow and side by side jumps small. But the pairs ones were all great- lifts, twists, death spirals, even pairs spin, all great, throws were pretty good, not as strong as those others as they are prone to slight two footing. Still if they skated last I am sure higher technical marks than this, although probably still doesn't pull them out of 3rd overall, especialy as their 2nd mark is likely lower than the top 2.

    I am a huge G&G fan but I wish they would just give gold medals to M&D and B&I and be done with it. You cannot compare these three teams and all three deserved gold. I’m tired of everyone slamming one or the other down just because they had the misfortune to compete with each other. You will never see three superb teams like that ever again.

      G&G were incomparible. They just had two minor errors that night, the bubble on Sergei's Jump and the double salchow he singled.
      Technically they were the best. Their speed also was the highest. And their artistry... simple but magnificant.

    • @mht4908
      @mht4908 3 года назад +2

      @@HausdorffLover I understand why G&G won, they were technically superior and had the best chemistry. Sergei never halted to a stop when he did his throws, whereas both Dimitriev and and Lloyd both did. However, they did make more errors than M&D and B&I, so it basically came down to whose performance the judges enjoyed the most

    • @HausdorffLover
      @HausdorffLover 3 года назад +3

      @@mht4908 Maybe without trained eyes G&G's performance would seem to have more flaws, but as you said they were technically superior in every move

    They really held their own out there and the crowd loved them. Just one small error on the throw 3T, otherwise it was about as good as they could have done.

      by their own standards it was a bit off but Isabelle was skating with broken ribs which is why they blew the 5 point star lift. (They had previously done this lift perfectly with both her arms outstretched for up to 10 seconds in past competitions.) The marks were HIGHLY questionable for the 2 Russian pairs who's programs were pedestrian at best. (G&G, like Petrenko in the men's singles, played it safe as they were pros with nothing to prove.) Overall, B&E were easily the best pair to never win Olympic gold. Only Tai & Randy were close.

    If I remember correctly, Isabelle skated this program with a broken rib.

      9 inch crack all the way to her sternum. If she was a hockey player they wouldn't clear her to play.

      Yes, her broken rib injury was already a problem at these Olympic Games in Norway. However, the injury was even worse months later at the 94 World Championships. It was known that the pain was severe.

      I'm not talking about the placing but MD wasn't flawless. The only couple in the final group giving kind of technically flawless perfomance was ShN.

    They used to fly over the ice when they were younger. Big question marks re their lines and the lack of a 3T, but they had exciting skates. This, not so much. Cautious, slow, setups for their elements almost endless. Wrong choice of music, too. Should've been something really energizing, lyricism wasn't their forte

    • @gk891
      @gk891 4 года назад +1

      Very true. They were not well suited to classical music.

    • @rowbom

      Probably stressed out so they decided to play it safe. Maybe they would rather skate cautious and not fall than to go faster and fall.

      they took a beating from their critics outside of Canada for years for being all flash and no substance so they changed it up to appease them. That and Brasseur had 2 cracked ribs.

    I just realized there's a trend among Canadian pairs of dull & boring skating. Guess that's why they gotta throw in so much difficulty. Then wonder why they didn't win or act like poor sports to get what their minds have convinced them they rightfully won. Salé and Pelletier were so boring. Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze captivated me from start to finish.
