    Common misconception about the first Ethio-Italian war though! Although relying more heavily on melee weapons than the Italian army, the Ethiopian Imperial army under Menelik II had a decent amount of rifles and artillery, and the marksmen were highly seasoned from the wars of conquest that they fought throughout the 19th century!

    So I used to be a Magnus apologist, but I've actually found over time that the Settler thing isn't nearly as strong as it sounds. At the point in the game that I do my settler push, it tends to be that my settler building city is right at its pop limit. So losing a population isn't much of a problem. Even with a granary for the extra limit, I'm usually pretty much capped out. There are some games where, depending on how much territory is up for grabs, I'll go for for free settler Magnus. But those are typically on extremely open map types like Highlands. Conversely, and while you're somewhat correct that the relative effectiveness of Pingala goes down in the late game, *getting* to the late game is the challenge of Civ 6 on Deity, not winning it. If you survive the Medieval Era, you're going to win if you have any clue what you are doing. So similarly to your point about not rushing campuses (a point with which I agree, outside of god-tier adjacency campuses), understanding the long game means setting up snowball-style advantages, which Pingala does in the early game by generating massive amounts of both science and culture. You can easily come back to vertical Magnus in the late game if you want, or, if your empire isn't designed to effectively utilize a vertical Magnus strategy (which for me is often the case as I don't typically spam Industrial Zones due to their AoE effect), you can easily win a scientific victory with Pingala.
    I actually think the argument between Magnus and Pingala is centered nearly 100% around the early game. They are typically my first two governors, but the real debate is whether I will get more early value from the chops or from the passive science/culture bonus. If it's a chop tier start, I spend one title on Magnus, which only briefly delays Pingala, and if I am not set up to be cranking out builders yet, I wait until I am ready to chop to appoint Magnus. As alluded to earlier, there are games where going free settler is highly beneficial, but I find it very rarely outweighs the massive boost to science and culture at the point in which the game is still in the balance.

    • @penknight8532
      @penknight8532 9 месяцев назад +1

      You don't really need population in this game.
      I focus more on grabbing the land and all the nearby luxuries so that I can make friends and trade.
      After turn 80 to 110 that's when I usually start the backstabbing.
      If a player is worried about population all they have to do is chop/harvest the wheat/rice or marsh or jungle.
      You should be chopping down the entire map anyways.

    • @kylenetherwood8734
      @kylenetherwood8734 4 месяца назад

      This is a great summary of the dilemma. I only go Magnus first if there are lots of chops and I really need them. Pingala and Connoisseur as first two governor titles is usually the best.

      Build a military first and make friends with the AI.

    Most science games I just focus on one mega-production city, a Liang city spamming builders, and everyone else building districts and projects.
    I don't like Pingala as my first governor for the same reason I don't like the 30% builder card. An extra 15% early makes almost no difference.

    Okay, I do have one question. How do you keep your cities from growing past a certain point? Do you destroy one of your farms, effectively ruining a farm triangle, or is there a better way to do so? I tend to have a lot of cities in the late game, so I don't want to get tok micro intensive.
    To help balance the extra cities, I use Sucritact's extra amenities so there are a lot more luxury resource types. And the further I expand, the more luxury resources I have access to.

  • @JimmyCrackorn

    What works for me taking an easy science victory with Korea is splitting in the early game. My capitol gets a holy site first, I settle a second before turn 25, and that second city gets a campus first. I hunt tribal villages and barbarian outposts while generating scouts and builders, prioritize production improvements while running each city on food, then settle a third before turn 60. I dedicate that city to a campus, build one in the capitol, then build specific wonders in the capitol from there for the boosts, and level up starting troops to save gold instead of sacrificing them on bad combat pairings with barbarians.
    I got the science victory before turn 350 on a 750 turn game, entirely erased a competing civ in the process, and the AI couldn't keep up in the slightest. I took and maintained an early lead that only grew each turn. That's just what worked for me.

But in your alex video, you killed barbs and beelined bronzeworking, put down the encampment and basilikoi asap. You trained hypaspists, upgraded warriors and grabbed the general so timely. You dom topped eleanor so hard that I got wet and my pelvic muscles loosened by watching it. You grabbed a ton of promotions to your infantry and you were even in such a good spot, also you grabbed like 10 eurekas/inspirations as alex. A lot of the times you can trade your own resources for them, like horse/iron etc. Save the gold. You can trade/buy all but the 1 that they need to maintain amenity balance. Having these 30 turn luxuries increases amenities to the max in most cases, giving you that beautiful +20% even very early on within 30-40 turns.

    Find the nearest enemy capitol and take it. I don't generally make a settler until I've captured a couple towns.

      @overjoe1475 2 года назад

      I think you should stay off wars for the first 50-100 turns making settlers uses far less resources and money

    • @marciwyrd8905
      @marciwyrd8905 2 года назад

      @@overjoe1475 Yeah but if you take out your nearest rival it gives you way more territory to develop. My normal first action first to make several warriors, take out an enemy before they have a second town, taking their workers and settlers, then I develop my land. I've never played online though, it probably wouldn't work against actual people. Against the computer though it works every time. It gives you a head start on all victory types too because the enemy capitol produces bonus science and culture. I've won on the hardest difficulty multiple times with that strategy.

    One more common mistake... Building the granary.. Absolute waste of a building in vanilla. At the least in my Jnr mod it gives +1 food to pastures, farms and plantations.
    Also the first district you make should always be the Holy Site... I thought it was obvious as religion is limited in nature...

    • @jyutzler
      @jyutzler 2 года назад +1

      Religion is too hard to get on Deity. It's not worth the risk for most civs. The granary is okay. You don't want to be stuck with insufficient housing. Getting a third district slot is pretty important.

    You can absolutely get a science victory without building a single campus. There's so many ways to get science without campuses (Trade, Religion, City State-Diplomacy) you just don't need what the Campus does.

    it only ever takes 3 units to deal with barbs. 3 thats all i ever use it is all you need. i never play the wussy victory modes it is pure conquest in my world. i always have at the least one city pushing science and i max it as fast as i can. when when aall else have 100 on science im bouncing 300 while they pushing out swords men im pushing out musket men. so i think i will keep my strategy all of your seem to be fails.

    Civ games have no AI bruh.... I just quit playing before I came to this video. I got bored because I actually gave the other Civs I like some iron while no one else had it but me. You think the AI used that iron? Hell "phuk" no! Then the AI will ask for niter and I'm like, what the "phuk" for? The AI clearly does not upgrade old units to better units so why the "phuk" would it ask for the next best thing when it won't used what it has?
    Lame @$$ "bullchit!" This is what people spend their money on.... Pure garbage now! Back in the early dawn of gaming, companies didn't have the luxury to patch a game or roll-out a DLC..DCL...what ever the "phuk!" They had to make sure the game was error free and loaded with fun-factor before they released that "chit" because too poor AI and errors, would mean major recall and money back to consumers!
    The internet "phuked" up gaming because it allows for patches and expansions! Companies now don't even bother to test their own production to make sure that it's not just error free, but actually going to play well!
    That kind of unprofessionalism is going to destroy the gaming industry! Just wait....the end is coming! You might be dead and "chit" when it happen, but rest assured, it will happen!
