2024 Softail Standard First Ride Review

- The Standard of the Softail range for Harley Davidson is a model called the Softail Standard. In 2024 it's now available in two colors, but there is a whole lot more to the FXST (which stands for factory experimental Softail) than just it's standard features. This week I take a rip around Daytona International Speedway on a 2024 Softail Standard and discuss all the cool things you could do on this blank canvas of a ride.

Nice review! Softail standard came back though in 2020 not 2018 👍
Thanks! Sometimes it’s good to have an innocent flub in a video, confirms that good folks like yourself are paying attention, good catch! I’ll pin this….So 2020-21 offered in wire spoke wheels, 2022-24 mag wheels.
@@KennyQuestShow correct! I’ve got a 22 and love it
Great review. I agree on all your points. This FXST reminds me of the FX’s from the shovel head era.
Same. When I look at all the old rider footage, it’s mainly FX and softail big twins, very small amount of baggers. I get that six speeds and a fairing will get you places farther and faster but for around town or a region it’s perfect for that.
Just wanted to say, what a fantastic review. Really great info. Thank you!
Thank you, I really appreciate your feedback!
@@KennyQuestShow no problem, I watched a number of reviews and yours is the best. So many others just go over the same boring stats off harley's website . Cheers!
@@1433443 thanks again that is helpful.
It will be nice if Harley adds cruise control and USB port. And lastly the logo instead of painting sticker make more nicer metal pin! That's all my wishes
Good suggestions!
The ability to customize is elite, but the forced extra cost to cover the coat of primer gray is LAAAAAAME 🤣
Vivid Black is a couple hundred bucks more, it’s apart the CEO hard wired strategy for increased profits, desirable colors cost more. 😕
Actually this grey was one of the colours often used on a lot of custombikes in Europe. People sometimes took a new bike an had it painted like that.
@@FlattiMoto I can appreciate it a little now if I call it “Euro Grey” in my head 😝
@@halerider The more lets say "conservative" germans then proceeded to put a whole lot of iron crosses all over the bike. So "Euro Grey" isn't necessarily the best way to put it. But i feel you.
@@FlattiMoto In the 70s and 80s it was common to see a teenager riding a 10-20 year old “muscle” / “Project Car” completely painted in a matte finish gray color from a rattle spray can, in fact it was considered a primer coat. So you’d see these primer gray colored jacked up in the back, straight pipe exhaust cars racing about town. This color scheme reminds me of that fad.
It totally looked better when it came with spoked wheels in my opinion. Def would have bought this bike if it came with a 5 gal tank, opted for a Slim instead
And I agree with your choice, the Slim, when it was in the line satisfied those wanting that classic WL era look without all the extras that came on the deluxe and heritage offerings. Thanks for commenting.
I bought a brand new on for 16k in 2023. I absolutely love this thing. Will never get rid of it. Maddie be after market and very easy to work on and do the install on most everything. Highly highly recommend. I went for more of a dynay look. Get compliments all the time by other riders. Can’t say enough good things.
That’s awesome. I knew there were folks out there that love their M8 FXST
@@KennyQuestShowmy hot take and experience is with a single modification I can completely eliminate the 114 vs 107 issue. This is the most underrated bike in the line up across the board. The SINGLE con, as far as the DMV is concerned in 5-09, anyone who exceeds that height or like 5-10 is gunna be uncomfortable and feel like their in a can.
@@michaelasher4408that’s why if I bought a softail it would be fitted with forward controls
@@KennyQuestShow I’m like 5/8ish 5/9 on my best days, and the kids are ok, I may try and lean the break arm and shifting arm forward slightly, I’m planning on a saddlmen step up here soon, so I’m curious to see if will change my riding position affecting my leg room and stretch enough to make me feel differently
@@michaelasher4408for sure it can effect seating position. It may push you forward. It may place you back. It may put you in the same position. You’d have to measure and compare.
I do not recall any of the billiard balls being grey or gray.
You have a solid point there.
The term "billiard" actually reflects the gloss finish of a billiard ball.
My only two complaints are why gauge 2 inch is so small 🤔 and has no backlight even
It is small, no doubt One could romance that it’s more bike and less gauge a nod to the chopper/bobber movement where folks are removing the tank mounted consoles from their shovels and EVO’s. There’s some backlight to it, and in the daylight I could read it and its design is not prone to LED bleed, something those who had 96-2017 gauges experienced that rendered the info screen useless. That being said it makes you rent n feel more then what the digits say on the little screen.
Its a great bike on a budget
Agreed!
The 107 has a lot of power. I have a 2020 Lowrider, I don't need a bigger engine .
Add a cam and an exhaust and I think anyone would be happy
Needed to clean lens before filming!
Actually that lens got scratched on that trip. I’ve since replaced the camera. Thanks for watching.
The Softail has been my dream bike since I first saw one in the 90s show Renegade which was what got me into bikes.
Someday I'll be able to afford one, for now I'm enjoying an 06 Kawasaki VN800 which has a whole lot of analog feeling 💪❤️
Great review man💪
Awe, you just hit a memory. I remember watching Lorenzo Lamas on his Harley thinking one day man, one day. I ride a 1996 softail, rigid mounted engine and I love it. But I do appreciate the six speed gear box and much smoother ride of today’s softail. Thanks for watching!
You should build one!
Seriously considering it!
Yes i like it no spokes.
Awesome, thanks for commenting
Is this a good first bike ? Cheers
I feel that it is. It feels a lot more planted than a sportster, it’s low to the ground which helps with rider confidence.
@@KennyQuestShow Awesome man, thanks
I’m 4’10 and I think I may get one of these next year.
@@Amalia-no7xt you should look into it. Go to your dealer and sit on one. They also offer a lowering kit that will drop it an inch or so. Low center of gravity makes the standard feel planted
Grey is the cheapest paint color to manufacture. Increased profits.
HD’s hard wired strategy, more paths to profits.
@@KennyQuestShow Too bad, rather than building better bikes more attuned to what the future will bring. I moved to Moto Guzzi, even this small company is moving forward with the V100 platform. Harley started to show some promise with the Pan America but that seems to have stalled even with so many calling for the Bronx to be built.
@@karlbishop7481 The V100 platform and the Revolution Max platform are a good comparison. The M8 in the standard and the v85 platform are a better comparison.
could this actually be a bike to ride cross country riding 250 to 300 miles a day, and windshield...
Absolutely. Currently I ride a 28 year old 80ci softail 250+ miles in a day several times a month. I use a windshield when it’s cooler out and none when it’s hot out. Make sure you have a comfortable (to you) seat, sissybar/luggage rack, highway bar w/pegs and adventure awaits!
If Harley adds a 4 gallon tank, cruise control, and a USB port instead of an empty holl and fairing wind cover. Change the color to Black, blue Metallic and wholla you have a nice bike. But the don't do it! Unfortunately
You just described a twin cam Street Bob or Blackline FXST from 2013 with factory hard candy paint. Just need to add a $29 usb and wire it in.
Two year warranty?😂 that's sucks. For allot of people that's between 5 to 10k miles
Yes two year warranty unlimited miles, you can add more of course, about $300 per year until 5. Then there’s a company, discount ESP, who will warranty up to 20 years.
