I know this is old but what he neglects to say is to enabled edge select. I had to google this to figure it out because I was also getting the horizontal lines. Then what i did was hold shift and alt to select the lines he selected.

Whenever I bevel the pumpkin creases, it bevels the diagonal lines too. How do I prevent this?
