When Jethro Tull first toured I believe it was 1977 Albuquerque New Mexico he didn't know how the United States would react to this type of music he noticed in less than 3 hours that we dug the s*** out of it excuse my language it was on
One of the finest songs ever! So melodious! you just cannot stop humming! It's magnificent like a poem also! Thank you Mr. Anderson, Thank you Jethro Tull.
Simply incomparable. Tell all your friends the very well-kept secret of Ian Anderson and his musical genius. You'll be leaving a priceless legacy for future generations.
This album is just another reason why the 70s will always be remembered as the greatest decade for music thanks to all the musicians that made my life better❤❤❤😊😊
What's even more amazing is that half a million people bought this record in the U.S. - that's a fairly popular album in the states. I would suspect that in '78 if you were to walk into a bar and play this song on the jukebox you would get beat up. You may still get beat up in our very tolerant '24. Moths is just a weird song and Jethro Tull is a weird band. Heavy Horses is one of my favs, but I recognize the music has a lot of whimsy.
In July 1977 the band recorded the lyrical, allegoric love story Moths. This song features one of my favorite lyrics by Ian Anderson, who was inspired by John Le Carré’s novel The Naive and Sentimental Lover, a rarity in his rich bibliography for not telling an espionage story. From the title you would think this is another song about animals, or insects in this case. But no, moths refer to a fictitious game described in the book. Anderson: “It’s a weird and tricky love story between three people, Shamus, Cassidy and Helen. Shamus the bad guy, is the seductive, crazy man, he’s the dangerous sex, drugs and rock’n’roll Ozzy Osbourne guy. And Moths is a game invented by Le Carré, which Shamus plays with Cassidy and Helen, in which a candle is placed in the middle of a billiard table, and you score a point for each time you bounce the white ball off each side of the table around the candle.” Anderson marries the game and the love triangle intrigue with real moths: The leaded window opened to move the dancing candle flame And the first Moths of summer suicidal came.
I just love Jethro Tull, from the beggining, with This Was, until now, what a span of great albums, up to and through J.Com, The Christmas Album, and Ian's solo lps, are great too.....what a unique band, with that famous Flute!!! 🍁
I discovered Jethro Tull when his Heavy Horses album came out... now l'm back again in 2019-2020 listening to him once again... Jethro Tull is older , l am older...so I am looking forward to getting to Heaven where l can hear them again when we will be young again.... thank you Jethro Tull for creating amazing music and Ian Anderson , I believe you have a most sensual voice !
I was thirteen and you were my heroes - I still smell the scent of summer, when I hear this. Travelling back in time and still loving it. Thanks to you! - But there's this one song that really is in my heart, and that is Heavy Horses - ...an October's day towards evening...., because I was born in October and I got that album for my birthday. You just grounded me then and still do it now. Bring me a wheel of oaken woods, a rein of polished leather, a heavy horse and a tumbling sky, brewing heavy weather... and as it is brewing heavy weather right now outside, I feel at home with you. Thank you for the music🐎
Bought the heavy horses album when I was 17....played it repeatedly .....just replaced it with the re issued new shoes multi cd and dvd set....genius...sounds better than ever!

The leaded window opened to move the dancing candle flame And the first Moths of summer suicidal came. And a new breeze chattered in its May-bud tenderness --- Sending water-lillies sailing as she turned to get undressed. And the long night awakened and we soared on powdered wings --- Circling our tomorrows in the wary month of Spring. Chasing shadows slipping in a magic lantern slide --- Creatures of the candle on a night-light-ride. Dipping and weaving --- flutter through the golden needle's eye in our haystack madness. Butterfly-stroking on a Spring-tide high. Life's too long (as the Lemming said) as the candle burned and the Moths were wed. And we'll all burn together as the wick grows higher --- before the candle's dead. The leaded window opened to move the dancing candle flame. And the first moths of summer suicidal came to join in the worship of the light that never dies in a moment's reflection of two moths spinning in her eyes.
Keep these videos coming! I’ve always loved this song. It manages to be one of their most beautiful songs, even though Ian sings it in his gruff “angry farmer” voice. It was just a cold.
I am to an old fan of J. T. approaching 74 , I saw him back in 1969 you can check this out tap in to your computer to search Croeso 69 Blues Festival... price was £1..25 pence 8 til dawn also on the bill was Fleetwood Mac along with quite a few other bands.
I was a kid. Watching when this aired on German tv. My brother and me knew the band already and were so exited. Funny to see now how the musicians turned the awkward playback setting into a more or less sarcastic party. And my brother played the flute, back then. He was really worried that the bottom piece of Mr. Andersons flute would come off, with all that juggling. But yes, great, great song!!

Hey Ian! It’s high summer here in the woods of Minnesota! Moths Everywhere!! Lunar Moths! I thought I saw Jack in the Green,......he was carrying a green flag,........dressed like the summer soldier! Rover is everywhere! And the Mouse Police never sleep,......two mice this morning! Just celebrating the 4th of July! We broke away,.......but we keep coming back!
Have you seen the whistler ? Did he bring songs from the wood and a cup of wonder ? Beware if he intends to take you upon velvet green... Well it can't be worse than with the high-born hunting girl... If you don't see him by the fires at Midnight, of talking to one brown mouse sitting in a cage, walk down by Dun Ringill. Where the stormwatch brews a concert of kings. And you'd better be there when the Flying Dutchman comes ;)

I wanted the new shoes edition but I was late to the party & they sold out. Now we are only left with greedy re-sellers that want to take advantage of fans. At least I was able to get the Songs From the Wood Country Set at a reasonable price. That set was seemingly sold out but they must how found more stashed away & I got that at a reasonable price.
I saw this band hazleton pa, very cool. Very crystal clear equipment good sound systems ban no one is Ian Anderson great band theatrical journey story type goes on. I picture him on a ship at sea for a set up performance but fantasy this music sways my mindset.

Ian Anderson's singing talent is unique. He has a sensitivity and creates a magic in his enunciation that is unmatched.
17 months before they lost John Glascock RIP.. Good to see him enjoying himself so much in this video

Ian is so versatile he can play a flute without having it anywhere near his mouth.
