I like your comical critique of yourself. My first painting I ever did was rocks. Who knew they were so hard but I liked how it came out. I surprised myself. Now I’m Trying to do a abstract landscape-yikes challenging
Thank you Very much for the Wonderful video Thank you very much and very interesting thank you for video video .sharing .. thanks for sharing..💯...💖💗💖💓 .. 💯 ...
Great video, I love your humor. You remind me of my son! I made it to edit this I didn’t realize you were wearing a Star Wars a shirt he’s a Star Wars freak so you really do remind me of my son your humor is exactly like his.
great video on how to paint rocks. I have been working on a wall mural with some rocks and managed to get lost. Your video will help get me back on track. Thanks
As a new starter to painting, I find your in-depth explanations of one part of a painting helps me more than watching an artist showing their style on a complete painting. Your way gives the groundwork needed to help create your own style. Thank you for your help.
@@ChrisKempter Thank you for the reply. I am trying to capture rocky outbreaks on a steep hillside. The colours (color) is predominantly white, grey and black streaks, similar to chalk with grass and small shrubs interposed. These steep hillsides are in the distance behind trees. Have you done anything similar to this in your tutorials? My attempt appears flat and no depth. 😶
"I don't know why I am using the canvas for mixing...", "I don't know why I am using the grey tone here since the canvas is already mid-tone..." ! You don't know many things, but you are teaching other how to paint rocks! That rocks! 😆😆😆
I laughed out loud several times, while learning to paint rocks, so thank you for that. I mean, I did slow the speed down which made you sound drunk, but you’re pretty funny lol
Thank you for this fab video and love your humour. Do you ever do rocks with a waterfall? I have a beautiful photo of one taken in Scotland and haven't had the nerve to start it. I will follow your instruction on the rocks. I've subscribed.
very nicely demonstrated. Can you please share the tips and techiques of making surfaces looks bumped or blown or supressed. For the beginer artists it is very important to learn.
Great video, like your style of presentation. Now I will see if I can recreate my own using your advice. Up until now I have been struggling with rocks, that's not good as my favourite subject is a very rocky place!
Hi Chris, thank you for the lesson. I do like your methods including your editorials, keeping it light. I hope you continue to produce videos and show the less talented how to do something. I like, "You must never give up, you just keep painting".
The round rock painting reminded me of The Creation of Adam. Also the use of the brown/grey colour in the other definitely worked. The colour gave the painting depth and composition. Great tutorial.
Wow! You have such an amazingly wonderful personality! You make painting rocks so much fun, even though it’s not that easy! Great tutorial! Had a blast! Thank you so much! ❤👍
His personality does help things crackalate around nicely. Sometimes, with the best of intentions, artist tutorials can be arduous affairs on RUclips--you can get near comatose on some I've watched!
Hey Chris, I so enjoy your videos. As far as personal artistic abilities, well I can't even write my name and make it look good. That said, it is a lot of fun watching and listening as you express your artistic abilities. Keep them coming. Looking forward to some more music videos, too.
@@ChrisKempter I played trumpet, bass, baritone, and french horn. Mostly trumpet and baritone, all through school. Band was my life in those days. I have enjoyed all of your family band's music, and especially your lightening fast OBS rendition. Love the ones with your "twins" and the concert with smoke in your violin. I will be watching. I know it has been awhile, but I have prayed for you especially, at the loss of your dad. Hoping you are doing okay. Lord bless you.
Ur a great teacher for a young guy and maybe I can show u some of my pieces I did,,check out Michele the painter paint n sip she's great teacher like you
When I first started watching your video, I thought.. Oh no, this guy's going to be a pain in the backside, but I decided to watch anyway. Wow, you really surprised me and I'm so pleased I watched your video. Awesome, well done
Excellent tutorial! Please make more. I'm a 72 year old with lots of time on my hands. Got together with my "Rembrandt girlfriend" and am starting to do stuff I missed out in my childhood!
This is my second time watching your videos, and both times you said you were adding texture but I couldn't see how or what you were doing. But you're a marvelous artist and teacher.
I can't tell if you are be satirical, but I'm working on a video that I actually explain how I put the texture on. So I'll try and be more specific lol.
I picked this particular rock video bcos it was only 13mins long. So glad I did , got a laugh where I didn’t expect it! I feel I am going to see your nose in every damn rock drawing I do! As far as doing interesting rocks to finish your canvas … try checking a place called Mull in Scotland 🏴
Just came across your rock video....I noticed that there are very few uploads....I would subscribe if there were more uploads at least monthly or more frequently....nice rocks though....cheers....
Well, I got married in the end of November and my work has been crazy! Lol. But I'm currently work on more videos that I'm hoping to have them out soon. Stay tuned to I can change your mind lol.

Omg u crack me up, love ur personality...I'm learning hence me watching this, good info...I'm working on a seascape & went with colored pencils & a paint thinner but got stuck... happy with how the beach & sea color came out but I messed up my rocks, need to bring them forward so I'm gonna break out the paint... can I make a funny 🤣 ur first rock looked like a donut lol...but the second one was what I needed to see... thought I'd have to use a knife but u made it look really simple 👍 thank u
Loved the rock video and I tried to follow with you but I got lost on the 2nd rock , hope you do more rock tutorials can you slow down and have the camera zoomed closer to the canvas?
This video is awesome, you make watching a video so enjoyable! Also that gray rock, Rocks!!!! Also very helpful, I’m ready to paint some rocks, thank you!!!
Ok, the most important take away from this video, so important that I paused it to come comment, is your words about never giving up and pushing through to the end, even when something looks horrible. I started painting last week after decades of wanting to. I have been stuck on painting #4 for days now. I keep fiddling with this or that, become happy with something, screw it up, fix it, screw it up some more, fix again...but I haven't given up! I will conquer this inverted cereal box I've converted into my canvas. I will finish my snowy pond, and move on with my life! Thank you for this video. I needed rocks, and I needed to hear your words of encouragement. Subbed.
This is one of the most helpful videos on painting realistic rocks. Thank you very much for this.
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Nice painting. You also play a mean violin! I enjoyed your family's Orange Blossom Special video.
Finally a video that isn't agonizingly slow. Thanks
Your welcome? Lol
You should be on the stage. You’re talented, interesting and funny. Best video on rock painting I’ve seen so far. Great tips cheers 👏👏👏
Thanks!
Right off the bet I love your sense of humor
Thank you!
Now, those are rocks ! Makes my rocks look like mere pebbles. Kidding aside, video was very, very helpful.
A well executed pebble will render my pathetic attempts at rocks to mere dust.
Nothing worth having comes easily. Only hard work and dedication.
I am working on rocks right now! So glad I found your channel and I will keep pressing forward🙂
Thanks!

Hearing my HS art teacher in my head as I watch this "make your darks darker and your lights lighter!"
Yep! Good advice!
