For those of you wondering, my wrist is doing better. Doctor could never figure out what exactly is going on even after an MRI. So anyways not a huge deal, but that's why I'm still icing and wearing the brace. I cracked up when I was editing and realized how obnoxious the ice pack was lol .. Thanks all for watching!!
You are truly amazing! Thank you for sharing your talent. Here's an idea for your wrist. Try using a warm wax dip. Hand wax dipping heats your bones. You can purchase at Walmart, beauty supply store, or on line. I also use aspirin cream. Best of luck to you. Hugs
Chuck, somewhere along the way, I missed exactly what happened to your wrist. If it was on some of that social media stuff...well...you know I don't do any of that. Just wanted to say, You take care of that, man...whatever it is.
I'm presently painting a seascape with plenty of ocean cliffs and I have to say it's been quite the challenge. This video has given me some valuable tips and inspiration. Thank You.
Chuck, I appreciate you doing this in time lapse mode. It helps me see the creation of your painting without taking all day to view it. Your work is great. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
You inspire me, that you can can create literal MASTERPIECES just by using acrylics. You are so talented and deserve more subs. I look forward to more of your great content!
Another amazing tutorial/walk through. It's always so satisfying watching you paint and turn blobs of colour from blocking in into beautiful and realistic nature. I used to never block in my paintings and just rendered as I went which was waaaaaay too hard. Blocking things in has changed my paintings dramatically over the years. I'm so glad you stressed that lol, Keep it up!
Thank you so much! This is very helpful. I'm working on a pastel landscape and while your medium is very different, I'm sure I have learned a good amount from you. I'm sure I'll watch more of your videos now that I've discovered you. You're very talented!
Hey. Just wanted to say thanks for your wisdom there by saying " theres really no way to shortcut this" I like how you explained the steps through the chaos of this creative path i found in the woods.
Thank you for this video. You are a Rock God. Thank you for showing all the tiny details you do to a painting instead of editing that part out. It really helps to get the idea of how to achieve the realistic look: elbow grease! Well...no time to chat, must paint dots...
IAM not an Artist, I just love looking at your paintings once they are done. Absolutely Fantastic. I've never known any other Artist that can do that. I know there are some, but you my Friend is Awesome. Keep up the Good Work. Be Encouraged.
Amazing artist, and an excellent instructor! I am so lucky I saw you on Pinterest. I used to paint with oils, unfortunately I developed an allergy to Lindsey oil. Watching you paint with acrylics first, motivated me to give it a try. Even if I have to complete with acrylics only. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise.
You are such an amazing artist, the dexterity with which you do this paintings is mesmerizing. I am an artist too but watching you paint makes me think I have a lot more to learn. Thanks for sharing this video.
You are an amazing artist. This is why i like the western people's work. You people are good in every work. The way you paint this picture shows that how good you are in paintings. Thanks Sir for your video. Sanjiv Adhikari from Nepal.
I have spent the last few days searching for rock tutorials, with no success until this moment! Thank you so much for sharing your skills and talent! Amazing!
I do not know how to characterize your brain...You are a magician with a brush...I like your drawing style...I'm your fan and You're my drawing teacher:);)Thanks for all the videos:)
Best rocks I've seen, and I've watched a LOT of videos on rock painting. Thanks you. I also like the idea of spending detail time on them rather than the wham bam thank you ma'am type of approach.
Chuck! That was amazing. Such intricate details in a cliff! Now I know why I have struggled in the past, but no more thanks to this video. I will take my abstract / pallet knife cliffs and turn them into realistic and majestic rock formations. Thank you so much for sharing your talent here. God bless!
HOLY GEOLOGY, BATMAN!! Whoa, Chuck, those rocks are climbable!!! I really like details, but I'm not sure I'd even have the patience to make rocks look that realistic :-| I'm happy you decided to smooth out the pallet knife strokes. To me, they had the effect of altering the perspective - they made the rocks look like they came to the forefront, instead of being behind the bighorns, and gave the rocks the appearance of being smaller than they actually are to be portrayed. That kind of texture was too much, or maybe too bold, for the distance/placement they occupy, in the painting. That much texture might work well for foreground rocks, though. Besides, you do have a touch, with a brush!!!!! Man, every aspect of this painting is absolutely splendid!!! Thanks, SO MUCH, for letting us watch your process! Keep 'em coming, Chuck!
Wonderful tutorial! I love your teaching technique. Very helpful! I have always had difficulty with making rocks look the way they should. This is great! Thank you!
I’m enjoying painting old brick walls and granite walls and slate walls. Just seem to be drawn to old buildings lived in things with hidden memories. I like the layering of colours and effects you get, like the look of moss and lichens etc., I’d love be enabled to do wet slate look.
Oh Chuck, thank you so much for showing us to paint such realistic rocks despite of your wrist problem. I hope you won't need to wear the brace and icing anymore !! Hoping you'd feel perfectly well sooner than soonest !!
Valla pintura mas bonita que has echo Chuck, tiene una profundidad extraordinaria y los animales paren que se van a salir del cuadro en cualquier momento. Gracias
Outstanding as always. Little feedback/criticism would be your rocks are so good they compete for attention with the big horns for the main focus of the painting.
Thank you Chuck. I watched this a few months ago and this was too advanced for me and still is. However, this gives a long-term painting goal. I am practicing in between step 1 and step 2. Very inspirational
Hi, just thought I'd write a little something even if you won't get to see it. I'm guessing you get tonnes of messages! I was attracted as much by the quality of your work as by your wrist brace. I love to paint, but I too have a wrist problem. The pain is getting worse and it was the most depressing thing to consider i might have to give up doing what i love. But seeing what you achieve with a wrist brace is very inspiring indeed. I thought it would be too restrictive, but obviously you cope remarkably well. You've given me the inspiration I needed to persevere. I hope your wrist is better now. Mine won't get better unfortunately, the best that can be done is an op to fuse the wrist in place so it won't move. I'm putting that off as long as possible, but you can only put up with so much pain! Best wishes from the UK :D
Hi Chuck, thanks to a RUclips suggestion I found your channel. That’s a crazy amount of work you put into those rocks but the outcome just blows me away. Hope I can achieve that level of skill one day. Subscribed and looking forward to watching your other videos
Incredible work, I love what you’re doing, I’m taking onboard what you’re doing and trying to incorporate it into my work. Thanks for the videos. Sam from the UK 🇬🇧
This painting is so photo realistic and awe inspiring! So very helpful thank you so much for this tutorial. All of your tutorials have helped me tremendously!!
I think RUclips doesn't like me not painting rocks, because it suggested this video for the 3rd time now. Watching it with pleasure every time though. :)
Good stuff. Your lighting is great! I like acrylics as they dry quickly and the paints have come a long way since the 70's. I'm struggling with a painting of the 'White Cliffs of Dover': its mostly light blue, gray, and dark gray and of course white'. I'm not actually there (I wish!!) . I'm working off an online photo. what you are doing @ 5:25 onward is really helpful. Hope your wrist is better! Thank you. subbed.

Look up the work of Dr. Howard Schubiner concerning your wrist. You might find the information interesting. Take care and keep up the great work.
Glad it’s not too debilitating. Monet had cataracts, Beethoven went deaf. So you’re in good company
Chuck, somewhere along the way, I missed exactly what happened to your wrist. If it was on some of that social media stuff...well...you know I don't do any of that. Just wanted to say, You take care of that, man...whatever it is.

-Yer a wizard, Chuck.

Your art is crazy good, like its actually inexplicable
Ah so amazing how you explain your whole thought process behind each stroke - love it! This is how all artists should teach!
I'm presently painting a seascape with plenty of ocean cliffs and I have to say it's been quite the challenge. This video has given me some valuable tips and inspiration. Thank You.

Love to hear that, Laura. Thanks for the feedback!! Always appreciate it and it's always my pleasure
This helps me refine my technique so much!
The shadow from the horn on the most prominent ram is 🤯 on top of everything else!

OMG you used so many layers for these rocks...at the end looks so realistic!!! I couldn't distinguish what is painted....👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Great Chuck! Patience is key! I agree takes a long time to build realism in any form of art. 👌🙏
Thank you for the lesson and for the great advice. :D I will be praying for healing for your wrist.
Best rocks I've seen, and I've watched a LOT of videos on rock painting. Thanks you. I also like the idea of spending detail time on them rather than the wham bam thank you ma'am type of approach.
Seconds after watching you adding the highlights, as if by magic, a goat appeared on the rocks! Beautiful rocks of the Rockie mountains.

Oh finally this was so helpful🙏! I was struggling a lot with rocks. But now I just realised that I just have to spend more time on details 😀
Amazing photo realism I love it! Looks like you painted a window into another world!
Those rocks were awesome ! I might have been looking at a photograph if I had not known it was a painting.
Valla pintura mas bonita que has echo Chuck, tiene una profundidad extraordinaria y los animales paren que se van a salir del cuadro en cualquier momento. Gracias

Thank you. Great demo.
All I can say is, WOW!!
I use a quick drying Acrylics for fast drying like you, but I use the Golden Open acrylics, as they are slow drying with a texture similar to oils.
I’m new to painting detail on rocks so your video really help me thank you.
Fantastic level of finish on your work. Tremendous atmospheric perspective and depth. Bravo

One can use Golden open acrylics which take hours to dry for wet on wet in acrylics.
One of the all time greats
Your work is incredible and inspiring 😮😍 You motivated me to paint for the first time in a while 😊 Thank you, it means more than you know 💕
Olá... só posso te falar que és espetacular!!!! Sou tua fã! Obrigada pela generosidade em compartilhar o teu conhecimento. 🤗
