It's because of how bounce combos work in the Crash PS1 trilogy. Your bounce combo goes up by 1 for every enemy or box you bounce on without landing, and bouncing on an enemy gives you a reward based on your combo. The combo normally resets when Crash is in a grounded state, but if you spin as you land and jump/crouch before the spin ends, the combo will be retained. At combos of 200-299, you'll receive Crystals from each enemy, up to a maximum of 64. This is why Burger enters the Bonus Round - to bounce on Arrow Crates and build up the combo easily. Burger gets 4 Crystals from the Lab Assistants in Bone Yard, and another 19 from the enemies in Gee Wiz.
He has to stack jumps to overload the game when hitting an enemy, game overloads and start giving crystal when you start to jump on enemies...its a little more to it but that a summary
Speedruns often use glitches But, i gotta correct you in this one, this is not a glitch, is an exploit, games is not having any errors, turns out that the programming of the game is working as expected But theres is some fine details you may not notice Movement, slide spinning is the fastest way to move The combo counter goes up no matter where you bounce For memory management resources, all items are stored in that section of the code But only by bouncing on enemies you earn the stuff The combo is lost if crash stands or walks/runs on any surface (but spinning, jumping, crouching and crawling are not coded to stop the combo) And for the reason of this not being really a glitch, he has to do a boss rush, cause he is not breaking the geometry of the game after all.
This speedrun category is Any%, which means all he has to do is reach the credits. It doesn't matter how he gets there, as long as the game hasn't been modified in any way. Which, in this case, it hasn't. There's a separate category called Any% (No Item Glitch) where the glitch that serves as the main strategy for Any% is banned.
