Please please provide small parachutes in markets to people buy easy and put on their flats for emergency like this. Look people stuck on upper floor and shouting help help they are useless cause bottom and lower floors on fire they stuck. If they have parachutes they was survived. Please raise this for wake up government and provide simple parachute to people who living buildings like this ...

This documentary was very educational and such an eye opener. I live in New York USA and had no idea the cladding that was used on the building was made in the USA. The cladding is not allowed to be used here in the USA but it's sold and made to be used out of the country. Unbelievable is this story and the idiot who changed the plans to use the flammable cladding should be forced to live in a house made with that cladding or put in a prison cell made of flammable cladding. When has it become ok to put other people's lives in danger in a situation you wouldn't put your life in or your families life in. Why has that become ok. What gets me really upset no one has taken the blame or gone to prison for this. Someone who sets a car on fire can go to prison but a whole building that went up in flames in minutes and caused almost a hundred lives is ok. Where is the justice for all these lives that were taken over using flammable materials and trying to save a few bucks. How in hell do these idiots sleep at night!!!!
More than simply a disaster, this was clear case of manslaughter and heads need to roll. Thank you for putting this documentary together. It is about time that tenants were treated with respect. My sincere condolences to all of those who have suffered due to this absolute lack of oversight on the part of local authories country wide. Tenants need to organise and make demands on the part of their communities.
My heart truly goes out to all Muslims who risked their lives to help others. Love and light to all the victims who lost their lives and to all those who managed to survive but are scarred mentally and physically.

This is honestly heart breaking. So many innocent people lost there lives. Whoever built this tower needs to go to prison. Cladding is extremely dangerous especially the one on this building!
There is not a day I don’t think of Grenfell and all those who were murdered and condemned to a brutal death. My heart breaks for everyone in that block that night and the families and friends of those in that block that night.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I am in the USA and think about this tragedy a lot. I wish so much that the cladding had never been replaced and now I hear the doors were not safe, and of course without alarms and sprinklers. It’s just horrible what the government did, that they did not install what should have been installed. Sadly, a tragedy waiting to happen. I know nothing can bring loved ones back, but I hope the families and friends receive justice for their loss.

This is a very good documentary and very well put together. I'm sorry for your loss and what your community is going through.
I donated through the red cross and I will be writing to them asking what is going on with releasing the funds to the families and survivors of this terrible tragedy.
You say near the start that it's the biggest British disaster for a century. I see this was released in October 2017 so the final death toll wasn't known. I would just like to draw your attention to the Hillsborough Disaster (1989) in which 96 people died and approx 500 were injured.
Hillsborough like grenfell was:
- preventable
- there have been many suicides as a result of the disaster itself and the campaign of blame from the media and the government
- there was no adequate or offered counselling for victims or survivors. It had to be sought by the victims
It became a tower furnace. Can't believe this has happened in London city. It should not happen anywhere. Homes are a place of comfort.

Excellent but tragic documentary
For what it is worth, the ripples of Grenfell reached the Netherlands. Many don't know it by name but know what happened. It led to renovations being looked at, i stated that with the roof and wall insulation we can wait for a horizontal Grenfell when fire rips through cavity walls. TV programs found that fire safety tests were done on walls without openings or without damages to plaster coverings. They found that some insulation needed a complete airtight cover but a mesh was used. Greed made us morally bankrupt.
Outstanding documentary, very well worded, the people came together to care and support, but where were the government and council, how very shameful, questions need to be answered and people held accountable, people’s life is more important then the government or council’s bank accounts,
Watching this in Jan 2021 and I'm not sure if these kinds of housing units are common in the UK, I'm in the States, but I would never live in one for this very reason. Before I heard about this tragedy, I've always been nervous of high buildings like these. This should have never happened. All those people... 😢 I just can't imagine.
In London they are common, there are 4 more high rise buildings around Grenfell that I believe are flats. 😞

So many foreigners and especially Muslims in this Building , I'm gona start by giving a side eye to the owner of the fridge that exploded, was that an accident? Did the fridge have problems before? Was he careless? Doesn't he use a fridge guard/protector? The make of the fridge? The company that made the fridge? 2ndly The owner of the Building, the building is a mess with no safety measures at all. The government, does the government inspect buildings before allowing people to live there? A building that high should have so much safety measures, I suggest even outside ladders for each backside of every home , fire extinguishers, oxygen. The firemen, fire company should improvise their equipment. Increase their water and even get airplanes to rain on fire from angles that are too high. Rest in peace to the people who trusted the landlords of Grenfell with their money and their lives as well as the lives of their little babies and elderly family.
Tindi, you're absolutely right. People who live in social housing are notorious for their inability to observe simple rules (fire safety).
I've personally seen the aftermath of many housefires (council houses) and it's always the same story. The tenant was careless and set his own apartment on fire. Some of the tenants don't even bother to study the manual (manuals that come with household appliances) because they've got ZERO respect for fire safety. They just don't care if the house burns down and their neighbors die.
When the house actually catches fire, the negligent tenants will be the first ones to 'play victim' and complain about being traumatized. One man used to joke about his smoking habits (smoking was forbidden but he thought he was entitled to break the rules). One night he fell asleep on the sofa when he was drunk and smoking. He set HIMSELF on fire and died on the spot. A family living upstairs (family with 2 children) managed to escape.

I just don’t understand why everyone didn’t immediately evacuate as soon as the fire broke out. I understand the difficulty with smoke and flames, but people from the top floor could still make it down hours after the fire broke out. So I just wonder, why were these people advised to stay trapped at the top of a burning building. The moment that I would smell smoke, I would be out of that building. No way would I wait around, hundreds of meters high with no escape, putting my life in trusting that the fire can be put out.
I noticed a similar thing with the twin towers incident - people were advised to just stay in the building. Are you kidding me? With the fight or flight response, isn’t it every humans nature to recognize a hazard turning into a disaster, and get the fuck out of there?

Fire brigade told them to. Presume fire brigade assumed the building wouldn’t burn as quickly and catastrophically as it did. And it shouldn’t have done: lack of fireproofing measures were apparently the main cause of the tragedy. A list of crimes by those with the power and the responsibility to do better.

This information is overwhelmingly heartbreaking. It so reminds me of the Horrible factory fire in the garment building in NY. USA nearly a century ago.

This fire was one of the most ghastly things I have ever seen and those poor people should have marched to Downing Street as a protest. This incident reflects yet again the archaic class system still prevelant in Britain. There are rumours that the cladding was used to make this tower block look nicer for all those richer people living nearby. If this is true then those responsible should be brought to justice. Who live in these monstrosities? Working class folk and immigrants - all of whom are considered so unworthy that their concerns for the safety of the building went unheeded. A sickening national scandal.

Game of politics, democracy and hierarchy ... The poor will never have a voice and the rich will continue to live the luxurious lives they live all served on a silver platter to them. The fact that concerns over the grenfell tower raised by the residents fell on deaf ears says something about the government we put our trust in.
4 year old me almost died because I was trying to save me stuff I was on the 17th floor I was throwing things out the window trainers flying I got all my stuff out I had me tablet in my hand and ran out it took me almost 30 minutes I almost burnt to death I jumped out the window on to me blankets I have alot so just a twisted ankle im nine now and miss my old home

The cladding wasn’t only a death trap that was flammable but was also water resistant according to a firefighter that was their which made harder to put out as well as releasing cyianide .
In another documentary, when the cladding,( cladding that was requested by the rich residents of Kensington because they complained how the building looked)was put up, TVs and other small appliances would blow out and small fires occur and the residents were ignored when they said something.
The city paid for their new housing, but had the poor not been ignored, the outcome would have been far different and better.
My birthday/14th of June, will never again be a day of joy.

I lived in Pinter house in Stockwell during my childhood and identify totally with the Grenfell residents. I understand how vulnerable it feels living in a high rise with only one steep and narrow stairwell as a means of escape..its disastrous.. It always frightened me living on the 19th floor, with lifts always breaking down.I feel the pain of the families who have lost everything and felt their terror as the fire spread.
..My heart is heavy hearing all this anger from BLM about racism....Nothing can excuse treating another human less than yourself Racism is abhorant,.and must be called out
.We are all victims of discrimination if poverty or ethnicity or culture fall under the cruel policies of government..the Grenfell family and communities around them should remind those who are trying to divide us that we have each others backs no matter where we are from,what religion we follow ..Please .Don't fall into this trap which seeks to create fighting amongst ourselves...it is in order to distract us from the criminal activities of Government,whilst stripping more and more of our rights from us....Peace and love my brothers and sisters

I get the impression there 2 building code standards. If its socialized housing, fire alarms, sprinklers, fire doors and building safety are exempt. If it's not socialized, then all the aspects of making a building safe are required.
These people came to the U.K. for a touch of the easy life. It didn’t work out but it was their choice to come here.

I remember watching the news and it was the first time in my life I had ever heard of these type of instructions coming from the Fire Department. It's always get out of the building ASAP and they provide trainings for building tenants regardless of what safety features were installed in the building from where I came from.

Was it really a fridge?? Its all questionable, as its never been properly investigated if it ever was a fridge?? But even if it was... it spread quickly due to the infamous inflammable ilegal cladding put on the building. Do think it was preplanned.
From what I found out a few years later, and the fireman's video....they went in the flat, to hey saw a small fire and put it out. What they could not see ,was the cladding had just caught fire outside, so when they got back down and outside, the fire was burning out of control fast and wildly up the building. HORRIBLE
I remember turning on the tv and couldn't believe what I was seeing, My mum and I didn't speak we just watched in horror, This is the worst disaster to have hit the uk in the last 20 years, High rise flats should be illegal, I'm guessing the deaths are easy in the hundreds probably 2_3 hundred, When you consider there were 600 people in that flat that in itself is ridiculous
The Council was apparently working behind the scenes, albeit it in a limited manner, through the community partners because the relationship between it and the residents was so poor Council members didn’t dare show their faces for fear of being set upon, which they would’ve been. It reached that point because the local govt, via the Council, had the underlying, sinister motive of taking the community’s land for private development. It had ostracized the community, trying to protect its true motives and to keep from being thwarted.

All depends on several things: fire alarm system, doing the check every year, don't try to cut on budget for maintenance.
The result of the ongoing enquiry will be 'lessons will be learnt'. All councillors keep their gold plated pension pots, no one from the council will be prosecuted. Whoever decided to wrap an entire building in combustible material is responsible - no penalty. The Rock Fielding Melon guy could not give 2 hoots. His actions have shown that.

The owners of the company responsible for the cladding have recently donated MILLIONS to the Conservative party... they are literally paying their way out of culpability.
I can't help but wonder if this for instance had been HSBC headquarters in Central London which had burned to the ground, Government response would have been MUCH quicker and I bet you all the money in the world that the government would have opened up their chequebooks ASAP to help out without even blinking. Indeed, when 9/11 happened it was front page news for months and whilst it was horrific, in a way this was worse as you had so many young children and whole families dying yet it is main news for a few weeks now all of a sudden it is barely mentioned in the media here in the UK.

Who tampers with fridges ? ... I can’t even change a plug ..... don’t even like changing light bulbs .... so I can safely say , tampering with a fridge to make it blow up isn’t a goal of myn .......
but your right , there are a minority like yourself , that may think of them things , or blame the victims, but I’ve never ever heard of people tampering with fridges to cause tragedy’s , hope the guy with the faulty fridge in Grenfell , who was scapegoated for the blame & cause of the tragedy is ok today , And he realises some responsibility shouldn’t be on his shoulders , he didn’t put flammable cheap cladding on human lives ..... he had a faulty fridge ....... it’s easy to scapegoat .

I blame the fire brigade because they told people to stay in their flats instead of trying to save their own lives. Why aren’t people being prosecuted?

The stay put response is supposed to be used to prevent stampedes and panic, only if the fire is under control, but not when the fire is raging out of control like in Grenfell

The fire fighters didn't know the cladding was flammable. They didn't expect the fire to do that. It's not their fault!!

Here is yet another solid argument against government dependency and the nanny state.
It is a crime, the cladding used is a bi-product of crude oil to make the plastic cladding, highly inflammable once on fire it gives off toxin fumes once inhaled it renders the lungs parallelised.
The nanny state is the ONLY thing that still tries to improve fire safety by telling people how to avoid housefires.
