Even here in the Philippines, bike lane is there but so many obstruction and instant obstacles which is not safe.

This is true. I blast through nyc streets daily on my sports e bike. I fly but read the streets and respect traffic and pedestrians. It’s an art form.
I can say the bike lanes are death lanes I rarely use them. Pedestrians run in them without looking. Drivers open doors while scrolling til tok. Old ladies talk near the curb while their teacup dogs just sit in the lanes to get ran over. I’m not making this up lol

I never use them. I ride on the road. No debris, and I'm much more visible to car drivers.
Makes you vulnerable to motorists, but so many people in large cities in America have little regard for cyclist's ability to travel. NYC isn't doing anything to invest in adequate cycling infrastructure.

Same over here (and that is Munich). Except you can't ride on the road in most cases as traffic is a lot faster and much more aggressive as in NY.

whether or not I use the bike lane really depends on the avenue - they're pretty useful on the upper west side but I can think of some pretty terrible stretches lower down manhattan though - 9th ave in the 30s and 40s comes to mind as particularly bad
Brooklyns 2nd avenue is terrible drivers are dick heads and the roads are cratered
A few weeks ago a small kid just jumped into the bike lane from behind the mother, so I had to crash into the bush to my left to not run it over and the mother ended up screaming at me that I almost ran over her kid, while I was getting out the bush. No more bike lanes for me.
I agree, most of bike lanes in Manhattan are less safe than the road. A lot of people think that it's not summer so there is no bicyclists, so they just park their vehicles on the bike lane. Like it's a bike lane for a reason.

I remembered an old cycling that I randomly watched in YT back in the early 2010's where a guy complains about the obstacles in the bike lanes and crashed his bicycle on one of the obstacles.

Most laws regulating bicycle use are more about the flow of motorized vehicles than bicycle safety.

I also definitely rather not ride the bike lanes in my city. There’s always idiots parked blocking the way, other people open their doors without looking, and some people using it for jogging as if they sidewalk wasn’t free of charge to use or as if there aren’t parks with tracks specially designed for them to use.

Same as the bike lane here in the Philippines they always block the bike lane even though it was for biker even the government implement a law about blocking the bike lane yet they still block the bike lane.

The lanes are new in NYC the city over crowded you just have to pick your times better 4 am - 6am weekdays the streets are yours after that it's a jungle out there, makes the ride more of an adrenaline rush gotta stay sharp 👊🏽🚴🏽♂️💨

Come to Toronto, ON, CA sometime when the pandemics over, you'll wish you were in NYC bike lanes (lol). What you're seeing is literally all of Toronto's mid - downtown bike lanes (disaster), because of that I prefer the roads too

@@Libidoic have you seen the bike lanes downtown TO? Cars are always parked in the lanes forcing less experienced riders on the road, construction is 80% of the city so the make shift ones are sometimes not well maintained depending on where in the city, and because of the pandemic we had so much padio dinning that the paths all along danforth, etc got crowded with ppl standing in the lanes, going through em to get to cars, padio, escape the sidewalk, etc.
Its definitely not all like that, but it definitely has a lot of issues. If I left anything out please let me know, thanks

Bureaucrats are forever drawing stuff on the road that makes cycling more dangerous. You can bet some motorists will conclude that, wonder a bike lane exists, you're not allowed on the main lane, and that you need to be taught.

I dunno what it is with the bike lanes on 1st and 2nd avenues. Compared to all other bike lanes, these two seem to be a magnet for all the idiot pedestrians and drivers in the city. I'll go a long way out of my way to use the Hudson River Greenway whenever possible.

The way you simply avoiding crashing into that door and went on the curb a nypd thug accosted me and gave me a ticket for riding on the side walk I’m sure you get harassed too sometimes
