My best friend had a 1995 F-150, and we drove it to the top of a steep hill, but bottomed out at on a rock at the top of the crest. The truck was stuck, and we tried everything to get free. Thankfully, an elderly man walking his dog saw us struggling and offered to tow us out with his truck. After 30 minutes or so, he returned in an F250 diesel. We hooked up the tow straps to both trucks and he yanked my friend’s truck (and the large rock) off the hill. Keep up the awesome work showcasing your RAV4 and your adventures. At 31 years old, I remember when that generation of Toyota was popular, and I love the interiors of the 1990’s vehicles. Seeing your RAV4 is so wholesome and feeds my nostalgia like a nice warm bowl of soup on a cold winter day
I always keep a shovel in the trunk during the winter months. I don't go out of my way to drive in the snow but that shovel has saved me a few times. Turns being stuck waiting for help into making it home with a minor inconvenience.
Now it's my first winter with a four -wheel drive car (Rav4 Gen2). I want to try how it behaves in snow and ice, but as you said it must be done safely! Happy New Year!
it sucks when -40s are the highs . the highs during the daytime hours has been in the -20f / -28c range (not counting wind) for the past week up here . i always keep extra winter gear , supplies and gear in all my vehicles , not just for my self but also extra in case i have others with me Old or new its best to keep any vehicle ready for winter
Great Video! Tons of experience getting stuck in the middle of nowhere! Had a Jeep Cherokee, me and my buddy who was riding with me, got stuck in a marshy field I had brand new Nike Dunks on in white....needless to say by the time we got out by help with another guy in a 4x4, my white dunks where totally wet and muddy....never wear good new clothes when venturing off road ahahah
around the 1:53 mark I see you only had a quarter tank of gas id say in the winter treat half a tank as empty and fill it up. you never know when youll need at least half a tank of gas if you get stuck in a huge storm and need to pull over for a while. that little rav4 is great
0:40 I had something similar happen when driving home in a 4Runner that I had just purchased. The water pump started leaking and there wasn’t enough coolant to keep the engine at the proper temperature. I had to limp it 300 miles, stopping every 20 minutes to refill the radiator. I barely got home
Greetings fellow first gen rav4 enthusiast from alberta! I have a 97 2 door, its even green! Though I have a third gen 4runner I trust more in extreme weather - the heater is better (and it has two, one for the back seat), its a more rugged vehicle for offroad conditions, and I can sleep in the back more comfortably. In this weather I never go below a half tank of gas, and in the back i carry a full change of clothes, spare boots, a spare winter high vis jacket, sleeping bag and a couple blankets. As well as a boost pack and recovery/tow straps and a tool kit. I havent been stranded yet but that is in part due to having the parts and equipment on hand to solve most problems myself. I did drive it home on the highway 200km one time in -30 conditions with a dead cylinder because I lost a fuel injector. Didnt seem to hurt anything though, tough vehicle.
Common sense. Either wear or have in your vehicle proper clothing including footwear that is warm and rain resistant that you could walk out if you needed to. Keep a full tank of gas. Maintain before winter. Have a tow strap and jumper cables. Let somebody know when you are leaving and when you should get there. Some places have no cell service, be aware. When you see your "stupid" indicator light flashing in the corner of your eye, pay attention to it. Almost 50 years ago, a friend bought a new Jeep CJ5. Down the road a ways, the sewer district had started building a new treatment facility. LOTS of dirt and gravel piles. We went there in the early evening. So much fun in the snow. Damaged the vehicle so bad it could not be driven. Stuck. Walked for over an hour to get back, no vehicle traffic. Thank goodness we had dressed for the weather. About 10 degrees, blowing snow, 20 mph or so wind. Have fun, just use that thing between your ears for more than a hat rack.

All the best! 🙌
Look for cracking around the oil pressure sensor switch port. Especially upon extreme cold start ups.
Appreciate it! Thank you for watching.

Right on! That’s the way to go. Thanks for sharing
I remember driving and losing control on the freeway and swerving because I had bald tires. Now I have snow tires 😊

Owen mate, why does come across like a make a wish commercial
Do you have any oil leaks
There are some minor spots I haven’t had to worry about. I keep an eye on the fluids and rarely need to add any.
