For those of us who ARE following along on our guitars: 0:48 Introduction 2:39 Verse 4:14 Chorus 7:20 Bridge 10:32 full play-through (Thank you for the great tutorial! And I'm jealous of your voice!)
Sir, that was a brilliant tutorial, I'm an old geezer with a Gibson, having tried this lovely song many times and given up! You Sir have shown me the error of my ways, Now I can finally Play this before I pop my clogs! Thank you.
10:10 mark “i don’t think anyone is following along with their guitars at home”. I did!!! From start to finish. Thanks for this tutorial it was great and funny!!! Keep them coming.
Wow, this was great! I've tried to learn this one before but failed. And by the first glance of your video I felt utterly confused and thought that hey, this video is just to quick and confused to be helpful … and then I started playing with you, and for some reason I got it, as I haven't with all the other tutorials I've tried. I don't know, but it might be that you actually PLAY the song … I mean, you're feeling is there, so it doesn't become just technical learning, as with many other tutorials. I love this song, and I felt it with you, and although I still play like crap I can now play it and sing along. Means a million!!!
I started watching this sometime long ago. I do not write often on this stuff. may have left one back then. great lesson but I stopped after intro and first verse. moved off to other songs both covers and my own. came back now. just love your style. that's me, my sarcastic style. we must be related other than everyone is a brother. I will follow the rest as I'm in a Paul S. mood. You're cool
I've loved this song for years and never took time to learn it. There are certainly more complex finger style arrangements out there, but you lay out the basic building blocks in a very easy to learn manner. Thank you.
I love the vibe the intro to this song has, very strange and heavenly, makes me feel nostalgic even though I only found the song this year! Either way, nice tutorial
Many, many thanks for a brilliant lesson. You make a difficult song seem accessible. Lovely voice and exceptionally smooth guitar style! Jimmy in Scotland
This was good! I am sooo familiar with this song and "St. Judy's Comet". I'd learned both songs years ago from a Rhymin' Simon book but this was a very good refresher. Your teaching technique is on point and I followed you the whole way through the video. Keep the faith Dad!
I remember trying to play this song 50 years ago when i was a love struck long haired college kid trying to get into the pants of a girl who would sit and listen in the coed dorm. In those days we had no access to something this. Maybe if we did we could actually get the job done. One of the best guitar teachers I've ever seen dissecting some tricky guitar work. Superb presentation. Thanks!
Fantastic. Thanks Dan. Love the humour. Always wanted to play this. I'll practice. I'm crap at guitar but in a couple of years I should have this sweet. Thanks again.
Hi Dan!! Thank you so much for this lovely song! really wanted to play this song I'm sitting on a it a few hours already I think the long A chord in the introduction is really missing, and even a bit lazy :) you should try and find something to put there, I am trying a E79, which is probably wrong but still a bit more rich
Thanks! I don't know if wrong is the way to say, just that this song has such an amazing chord flow, and most of it is a already a bit difficult so I don't see a reason to be "lazy" on that one specific bar :) Anyway the video really helped me a lot, and was fun
I'm not super good at this stuff, but not too bad. Playing along with the song, it seems I'm a half step off key. Am I crazy, or is the album version tuned different? Thx!
Thanks for sharing. I first learned it from sheet music (for piano) and it wasn’t quite right. I dropped it one key so I could sing it. What model Taylor are you playing? I have a 710 built in 1985. Great neck but huge body
That's a 314ce -- the x14 shape has a narrower waist than the x10 bodies so it's a little more comfortable to sit and play. But the big dreadnaughts like yours can really boom!
do you ever get wrist pain? Its the first time for me playing a lot of these chords and I had to take a few days break because of my left hand wrist hurting. I am not sure about how to make some of the reaches less awkward for my wrist, any suggestions?
You should rest your hands if they are in a lot of pain so you don't do any serious damage. Position and technique might need to be adjusted, and also relaxing instead of straining your hands (easier said than done, I know!). Try not to "grab" the neck with your left hand but make the only contact points be your thumb and fingertips (not the palm of your hand), especially in complex shapes. Personally, I have been experiencing increased pain in my left hand; I think it's joint related. In short, practice, relax your muscles, take breaks rather than "playing through the pain", and use right technique as much as possible. Happy playing!
Im not sure abt this song man, it seems the verse kinda fits in 7/4 That is one bar 4/4 followed by 3/4. You can actually count 7/4 the whole verse and it fits

Don’t go gently into that good night!
As a matter of fact, people DO follow along with their guitars at home. Thank you for helping me understand this crazy (amazing) song !
10:10 mark “i don’t think anyone is following along with their guitars at home”.

You win the golden ticket! Thank you for playing along!

Do a tutorial on Still Crazy After All These Years! Your subtle humour makes these videos soooooo good.
I haven't looked at Still Crazy much, but not a bad idea. Maybe I will give it some attention. Thank you for your kind words.
This is by no means an easy song. You did a fantastic job breaking it down! I couldn't be more grateful for you sharing your knowledge! Thx, amigo!
My favorite Paul Simon song. I'm going to memorize this one for guitar. Thanks so much for the video.
Great job and you’re funny. This is an incredibly hard song and you make it look like a walk in the park🙏
Thank you - this is very kind. Cheers!
Really good lesson. You’re a very good player, who makes some really difficult shapes look ez
this one of my favorite songs (pause ) . thank you !!
You may not play it the exact way Paul plays it but it has the same vibe and it's all that matters.

You do really cool videos. You need more followers.
Beautiful!
This was really well done and nice departure from the usual didactic approach.
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed
Very nice, you are amazing with your knowledge of chords. You motivated me to revisit this song with some better chords. Thanks.
I'm glad you enjoyed - thanks!
Great job - love your style
Fantastic. Thanks Dan. Love the humour. Always wanted to play this. I'll practice. I'm crap at guitar but in a couple of years I should have this sweet. Thanks again.
Just keep playing! Thanks for watching.
This was great thank you
well done...differs from the sheet but great arrangement. Hate that E chord stretch..I think Clapton uses it a lot
Nice. Keep posting all those Paul Simon songs. kg
Thanks! Hopefully I can get back to it one of these days... I think I have at least a couple more I can pull out.

Thank you for checking it out. You could very well be right about what I'm doing wrong! Happy playing :)

Anyway the video really helped me a lot, and was fun
ok I got it, I try to video it and upload!
Thanks again you really helped me learn this amazing song
@@thatguitardad At least you got some things so right (why did no one else grab this low hanging fruit?) Terrific tutorial with great side commentary.
Shit man, thank you. Funny how people are asking for another song. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thank you for watching! Possibly more songs in the future, if I can find the time...
Thanks ! Eh... 'pulled over from my other channel..' if you say that, why not a link to 'other channel' ?

Thank you for watching!

Beautiful rendition. I’m too much of a novice so I couldn’t really follow along. I believe this is an a different key than Paul does it, am I wrong?
In the studio recording paul has a capo on the first fret
what tuning??? thanks
Standard tuning 😁
I think the tutor is taking a long time to say this is damn hard to play !
But hopefully less hard now!
Im not sure abt this song man, it seems the verse kinda fits in 7/4
That is one bar 4/4 followed by 3/4. You can actually count 7/4 the whole verse and it fits
Maybe you can, but I can't. One thing I will NEVER claim to have is good rhythm or counting
