This was written by a Benedictine priest called Alan Rees, who was the Abbot of Belmont Abbey in Hereford, England. He was a talented musician and choir master. I attended the school attached to the monastery and had the pleasure of knowing Dom Alan well. I believe he wrote this and some other plain song chants (e.g. Sanctus, Kyrie) for the Papal visit to Wales in 1982. Sadly he passed away a while back, perhaps 10 years or so. Top bloke. And this beautiful music lives on. It's wonderful to see how popular and widely spread this is.
Thanks for posting this! I sometimes realize how uneducated I am about certain Catholic practices because I was at Mass tonight and everyone started singing this and I had no idea what the words were or what they meant. I now realize that these are words I've sung in English countless times :)
@David Russo It's a prayer that is chanted during mass. I don't think anybody knows who composed it. If you want to play it at your wedding, then look for albums of medieval or Catholic chant. The way you hear it here is the way I have most often heard it, though it can be chanted with different melodies.
Lamb of God. How beautiful can it get? None. None more beautiful (pease forgive my English, it's a reference to the movie: "This is Spinal Tap". Holy Lord I'm grateful for your gifts to me, and I will give every effort to praise and represent you.
:D I have 2 Gregorian Chant CD's & (Can you believe it?- Neither one has this?!?). Thank you SOOOOO MUCH for uploading this- it's hands down one of my absolute favorites. I feel like the Latin version is 100 BILLION times more beautiful & reverent than English. - FSSP anyone? - Pax et Bonum my brother(or sister ;D) in Christ
+vocolos gaming forcing you beliefs? seriously, if you dont want to believe, a song wont make any effect on you...Im not even catholic but you americans an your "sue everybody" culture is pretty ridiculous
thank you for the thought buuuuuut it is "forcing" a belief if its a non-christian school there fore he could sue and yes as i am an american and yes i like to tell people their options
+vocolos gaming gregorian songs are beautiful pieces of art. Most of them (if not all) are religious. Should a chorus stop trying to learn them just because of that?? Im part of my university chorus and although Im not catholic I have to sing catholic songs...because that style of music is like that. And no, they are not forcing their beliefs on me. Because I dont feel obligated to believe something I dont. Religion is the theme of a lot beautiful classical pieces of art, songs, paintings and sculpture, If we deprive ourselves of these historical pieces of art just because they are religious, we would miss a lot of beautiful art pieces. I dont want to live in a world where art isnt appreciated just because their origins.
Mathew 23 does not say that. It says there is only 1 father, and 1 teacher. So do you not call your teachers teachers? Paul refers to himself as a father to teh Corinthians (1 Cor 4:15) So Thats not his point in Matthew.. Mathew 6 is condemning VAIN repetition, not repetition from the heart. Mark 7 is talking about the traidtions of men, not the traditions of the apostles (2 Thessalonians 2:15) Please refrain from accusing before understanding both sides.
Agnus dei quitolis peca tamundi miserere nobis ça on. Le chante 2 fois ensuite c'est comme ça : agnus dei quitolis peca tamundi donanobis pacem ensuite on attend plusieurs temps et on fait un son tenu la bouche fermer. Voilà !!!!!!!!
Romans 3:4a, “For what saith the Scripture?” Matthew 23:9 forbids calling a priest “father”; yet Catholics disobey God. 1st Timothy 4:3 tells us that false prophets would forbid people to eat meat and marry, which is exactly what the Catholic religion does. Jesus warned against praying with vain repetitions in Matthew 6:7; yet that is exactly what the Catholic Rosary is. Jesus warned in Mark 7:9 against keeping the traditions of men instead of obeying the commandments of God.
