  • In this tutorial I demonstrate how to achieve a semi-blended watercolour look on your fondant cakes and how to then dress it up with edible gold dust and edible gold leaf. No painting experience needed, this is just a super easy and fun creation to make.

    Colours used:
    (All Americolour Gel food colours)
    - Regal Purple
    - Super Red
    - Turquoise
    the gold dust I used I bought from a store called Susie Q. They fill the viles themselves so I'm not too sure what the brand is exactly, but their gold dust is awesome. It's a basic edible luster dust.
    The gold leaf can be purchased from your local cake decorating supplier, although I also know you can find them on e-bay pretty easily as well. The gold leaf on e-bay that is available for purchase in Australia all seem to come from Thailand. I have purchased a pack and placed the gold leaf on my macarons and eaten them. I'm still here, healthy and alive. But definitely make your own decisions when buying edible products from overseas.
    Thanks for tuning in guys!! It was a pleasure making this video and honestly one of the funnest and relaxing cakes I have ever made to date. And Cake Decorating is my meditation / crack, so that's saying something. Remember not to think too much into it. Just let your eyes and your hands do the work.
    I am really excited to share my next Cake Decorating video on Saturday, it will be a little something the kids will enjoy helping with and rainbow themed. can't wait! It also means I get to eat rainbow related cake when I'm done with it x)
    thanks again for tuning in guys! I will catch you next time xx

    I am such a fan of the shiny gold fad. I was one of those artists who never stopped using metallic gold and silver...even when nobody else was! In fact a few years ago I distinctly remember wondering if I should stop using them because NOBODY else was. Thankfully, as all things do, metallic came back in fashion in a big way. I love it against the watercolor-though to be honest I love it with everything. I like it with the rose but it is beautiful either way. The microphone/sound in the end "chat" portion sounds MUCH better. Great job.

      +Danee Kaplan thank you for the awesome feedback! I bought yet another microphone lol this one seems to be doing a much better job, thank you for noticing haha x) isn't it just the best?? I have a few other designs up my sleeve with the gold leaf for future videos. It's just stunning.

      thank you +Sara Neal :D the Thai gold leaf is fine in my opinion, although just so you know they come in a pack of very small squares. I was bummed out by this, but if you're only using them in small quantities like for this cake, then they will do perfectly :)

      haha thank you for the lovely compliment +анни елниф ;) This cake is especially nice for a wedding. If I had to choose one of the cakes on this channel, I would make a 3 tier airbrushed rustic cake. I made this one for a friends wedding as a 3 tier and airbrushed the bottom of each tier red to match her theme. It looked really pretty with red roses to decorate :) and not very stressful or time consuming either.

    • @Rosiesdessertspot
      @Rosiesdessertspot  9 лет назад

      Hi +yolynstars30, If you were to make the cake ahead, I would bake it the morning before, decorate it that night and then store it in the fridge for the day after to be eaten. Fondant cakes sweat when they are taken out of the fridge, but they dry off after about an hour or so. Unless you add super delicate decorations that wilt or bread with moisture like wafer paper etc, then I would be weary about adding the cake in he fridge. But this design will do fine :) If you need, you can even make he cake 2 days beforehand. Fondant is airtight and preserves the cake pretty well, depending what flavour cake you have used.

    • @Rosiesdessertspot
      @Rosiesdessertspot  4 года назад +1

      Hi lovely, thanks for your comment. You can indeed start painting immediately. It does help to let it rest overnight so the fondant hardens, but if you are using a soft brush to paint, then it shouldn't leave any indents. I would use alcohol or something high in acidity. Both alcohol and acid evaporate quickly. Water on the other hand doesn't unfortunately.
