Currently sitting at airport lounge looking at airplanes flying in and out, sun hitting me in the face, AirPods blasting some dope Nick Hakim. Life is good.
Am I the only one not getting these Anderson Paak comparisons. Sure they both funky and raspy but I think they have a totally different sound, style, production (and instrumentation) etc.. Paak gives me this uptempo cee lo vibe like driving a cadillac down the boulevard with some hunnies and crocodile shoes while nicks music inspires me to telepathically communicate with the aliens while taking a bubble bath with my soul mate
The raspy vocals is what I believe causes people to hear a comparison. The biggest comparison between the two for me is the fact that both are superb artists.
So good... the way Nick sings, it’s like he’s tapping in to some part of him and feeling every syllable that he croons. When he sung Needy Bees I almost felt like it was too intimate... like he should have performed it turned around. Amazing band. Bless you, Tiny Desk.
While I appreciate the sentiment and intention of this comment and completely agree, I laughed so hard at "he should have performed it turned around ". Thanks for the beautiful image
Probably one of the first times I've heard Nick sing with no reverb, and MAN it's still just as good. Raspy, thick, beautiful voice. And that bassist tho! All the yes's
Sums up my thoughts. I heard his album and it sounds like my headphones were broken. Too much effects mateee. He's more then good enough with an organic acoustic sound like in here.
@@JosePineda-jn8jk I just hung out w him for a few hours and he is a very mysterious guy lol. He says a lot with his eyes and expressions but doesn’t say a lot of words
He's that good, yep. I played a show in a basement in Boston in like 2012 or 2013, and he was on the bill, playing solo with guitar and a little drum machine. He blew my mind then, and continues to do so now... the word "duende" comes to mind.
I really wish he would re-record his studio albums in this fashion, even if it's just green twins. I keep coming back to this performance every few months
I do like the live versions but, the tension on green twins when he does the build ups in songs is super cool. How it builds from a chill sound to almost overwhelming and then back down and calm.
Didn't know him and now I'm gonna play his music all day on Spotify while working in a cafe.... Good day ahead of me!! Thanks NPR, Nick and the band!!!
One of the most beautifully emotional tiny desk performances I'v seen so far. Every song here is a pearl. I think its even better then the sound of the final album which sounds too processed in some parts. But here, these amazing mics (gotta have one of those someday) capture his beautiful, delicate and allusive voice, better then all this bands other live performances on youtube. Yes I love it very much
Love this so much. Actually like this more than the recordings (dont kill me) because the production on those has a lot of other things going on, while you can clearly hear what's going on here, and goddamn is it perfect.
Holly mother cow! Cuffed has been on my ipod in 1st place for almost a year. Bless you man, God bless this funky music voice of yours. Thanks for all the great music.
As a musician, I love watching other musicians body expressions as they either play or sing. We all have our own unique expression..lol. Like Prince, when he plays the guitar, you can see him lipping his strums as he plucks the strings. A lot of guitarists do that though.
I have listened to this at LEAST 20 times and every time I am just blown away at how buttery and delicious his music sounds. Absolutely incredible, TOUR SO I CAN SEE YOU LIVE!
yes yes yes
Tom Misch love u 😍😍😍
Aye its Tom! You inspired me to learn gutar!
When are u gettin one of these? You're long overdue.
Hi Tom
I agree with you David. Tom Misch so overdue on NPR Tiny Desk!!
Currently sitting at airport lounge looking at airplanes flying in and out, sun hitting me in the face, AirPods blasting some dope Nick Hakim. Life is good.

This is probably the best tiny desk
Edit: I changed my mind, Doechii’s tiny desk is the best
Low key is.
We honestly need a Nick Hakim and Thundercat collab
+ anderson paak
Nick Hakim + Tom Misch + Thundercat + Anderson Paak on drums would be insane
Now that’s a collab that’s needed
Omg, I’d faint
@@EQTsaus throw FKJ in there........ and we can all just die

Just saw him open for Khruangbin, what a talented group. They def melted my 🧠
Here today after seeing him open for Khruangbin last night in St. Louis. I concur!
Bro I’ve never been more jealous in my life. Him and Khruangbin 😱😨🥶
That sounds like a dope night of music

Meaghan Taylor Awesome explanation. I feel exactly the same about these 2.
You're not. While I appreciate both artists' music, I do not see the parallels between them that others seem to.
haha this is such an underrated comment
The raspy vocals is what I believe causes people to hear a comparison. The biggest comparison between the two for me is the fact that both are superb artists.
this is correct.
Groovy ass bass player
Those are my favorite kind of bass players I learn from; session & live members alike
kyle miles!! he also plays here: ruclips.net/video/qqbuAOEI4A8/видео.html
Man I'm saying!!
recommendations for groovy ass bass players pls
Yes!!
The groove is so buttery I slid down my chair
Daniel Blanco LMAO
I fell out and melted into the floorboards
well put

Yes! This! Felt so personal. Like we shouldn't have even heard it. He gets so into his music It makes us want to take that dive with him.

His nervous giggles omg……everything about this is pure perfection. What an incredible artist…whew
That quiet whispery yet beautiful and controlled way of singing....ugh. love it
The stripped down version of "Needy Bees" made me cry, but I'd still bang to it 10/10

Yes!
Hey garrett where have you been ✌🏽🤷🏽♀️
Hey Garrettttttttttttt nice to see you have a nice taste in music haha
Can we take some time to appreciate the piano/mellotron player? EVERY note played AND NOT played is exactly where it needs to be.
YES!
Jack Sherman is amazing. Worth following, check him out.

Just saw Nick perform at the Red Rocks Amphitheater on a full moon - it was magical.
This sounds even better at 02:00 am
he’s so talented, and so is his whole band, but he seems so nervous at times lol. honestly a gorgeous man.
It’s absolutely adorable
I feel like he is just socially introverted even being a performer.

Drummer and Bassist are legends.
So slept on, Green Twins was easily one of my favorite albums of last year
Tom Fisher heard it today. It brought me here... amazing record.
Couldn't agree more. Dude deserves accolades for that one
WORD! I can´t wait for the next record to come :O
His music returns me to the hidden parts of my heart
Josh Rogosin (audio engineer) deserves all the awards
yes. i totally stalked him on insta just to express to him that exact sentiment.
The bass though.. ohh the bass❤❤❤ i keep coming to this performance. Nick is awesome 👌
It’s so perfect, Kyle Miles ❤
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the bassline at 12:40?
Not only that he delivers amazing fills afterwards :)
Wasn't expecting him to sound so much like the studio recordings. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
He's that good, yep. I played a show in a basement in Boston in like 2012 or 2013, and he was on the bill, playing solo with guitar and a little drum machine. He blew my mind then, and continues to do so now... the word "duende" comes to mind.
It seems like they really went above for this performance. Not that he's not usually amazing live, but this is by far the best Ive seen.
so sick
He sounds NOTHING like the studio recordings. What the heck?
2024 and this is still a tiny desk I have on repeat
So fluid... The baseline on "cuffed" is straight Heroin.
Amazing sound- Bass player is utterly disgusting!!! -Chills!!!
Gil Gonzalez ...basically!
So underrated!
this is so disgustingly good, literally in love with this man's voice ohmygod
I don’t go a day without listening to nick Hakim at this point
I really wish he would re-record his studio albums in this fashion, even if it's just green twins. I keep coming back to this performance every few months
Yep. Same.
The best
You ain't wrong, this is just unparalleled. I'm shocked how tight they are as a unit and it takes conveying the song to a whole other level.
I do like the live versions but, the tension on green twins when he does the build ups in songs is super cool. How it builds from a chill sound to almost overwhelming and then back down and calm.
I AM CRYING. THANK YOU NPR :"( I'M THE BIGGEST FAN OF NICK HAKIM. Love from South Africa
