Interesting. I have a 2020 Escape S/AWD, which is what the Active is now. I have the 6", non-touchscreen, Sync display. They started making the 8" standard across all trim levels for 2021 model year. This is basically what an Escape SE would've been for my year. I have steel wheels with mine, but these wheels on the '23 are what you got for the SE. Also, my Escape is the same color as this. 2020 Escape SE AWD owner. Got mine on discounts in 2021 at around $22k. 😜 It's a CUV that has just what you need. I've put 76,000 miles on that 1.5L 3-cyl engine. It actually does great, especially on road trips and when I need to drive around the work site. But at $31k in '23, that's a bit overpriced. If you're gonna pay that much, I'd skip the Active trim and move up to the ST-Line to get the AWD hybrid. At least it looks like it is in the Ford CUV family unlike my big boned Focus looking '20 model year. lol
We just bought a platinum hybrid escape, our 4th escape. This one is by far the nicest one. The mileage is much better than we expected. It is fun to drive, very comfortable, and affordable!
Great review! I had 2020 Ford escape hybrid. I can say that NVH, suspension, ride quality, and exterior paint quality are better than CRV and RAV4. However the interior was seriously worse. For example, the arm rests on each door are so narrow. Even could not rest my arms. 9:19 Look at where Joe put his arm because the arm rest is useless.
I have a 2020 Titanium 2.0 turbo and agree. Even with the 19" Wheels/tires it still rides much better than the CX-5 and handles almost as good. The engine is a 9/10 compared to the CR-V at 6/10 for NHV. It's actually better than the 2.0 turbo in my mom's NV300 that I'd rate at 7.5/10. Power is best in class and my mpgs currently are at 29 mpg over the last 2,000 miles.
@@302Mustang13 my new CX-5 rides great! But I changed out the tires that it came with. @@2004cyrus thing that scares me about soft touch materials is I believe they won't hold up well long term. Do you have the turbo CX-5? I'm just curious because it is the vehicle I passed on. I thought the CX-5 would have been the most fun with zoom zoom in mind but was really disappointed with the ride quality and felt the transmission was not competitive. The RAV4 was barely better than the CR-V and the Equinox was ok. To me fuel economy is important cause one tank a week at $40 each is $160 a month at $3/gal. I figured gas prices would hover between $3-$6+ a gallon over time and that can be $300+ a month at high prices at that rate. Drive more and that cost is huge. I don't want to be dumping $600+ a month in fuel. Believe me, it adds up and most people overlook that expense.
Love the Escape except for the electric razor things in the front grille. I like the entry level model with the great price. Thanks Joe. PS: No CVT is the icing on the cake.

I like the front more than my 2020 Awd SE. Been driving a 2022 2.0 Platinum for the last two month due to warranty work. I think that speaks to fit and finish. The 2.0 gets about 30% worse fuel economy. Also, the digital gauge cluster is so slow compared to the cheaper one. The 2.0 is crazy fast though. Even the Mazda CX-50 turbo feels poky by comparison. However, I'll still be getting the Mazda next.
I think you mean Titanium. I have the same engine and transmission and I'm averaging about 28-29 mpg since my last oil change in April. I've seen 32-34 on the highway and that is at 80 mph.
Yeah, it's the "metal" version. I'm at 21mpg average. High altitude and town driving only. 27mpg with 1.5. The 1.5 also did that in winter so I think the divide is actually greater. Had an ST with a version of the 2.0 it was about the same.
Yep, fake vent needs a fog lamp. Exterior not bad, interior still very basic and cheap looking. Dress it up more Ford. Even new Chevy Trax interior looks better……..for $24k ish
HI joe, I just wish to clarify a point you made on the 2 liter twin turbo, of taking just 5.6 seconds to 60mph. That sounds super quick for a Ford family SUV, putting it only 2 seconds behind the first model Tesla S. Was that time correct? Many thanks for sharing yet another professional review...
Regardless of what the actual stat is, the 2.0 is silky smooth and quick. Mine has the excellent 8 speed. Transmission is a little jerky in traffic and around town but perfect elsewhere like highway.

New for 2035 is the completely redesigned Ford Escape. Comes standard with an electric motor or for $5000 extra, you can get a 0.5 liter 2 cylinder engine.

Poverty spec is the fully loaded with a 100 month loan combo, and an interest rate of 20%, no money down. That car will break down long before the payments end, making you poor and the bank rich (if you end up paying it off, ever)
You can get Subaru Crosstrek or the NOT Hybrid Corolla Cross LE for 24K which is barely there but its as cheap as you can go. If you want a Nissan Versa those can be had for 20K in its luxury model and as low as 16K.
You can get LED fog lamps on the Platinum. Fix the rear taillights and put the Mustang Mack E rear lamp on the 2023 Escape and the exterior refresh would be complete. Here’s the deal about the RAV4: it looks like a washing machine compare the Escape. Also, the design bar is set by the Tucson and the CX5. If I were to compare the CRV to anything it would be the Bronco Sport which aesthetically the Bronco Sport runs donuts around the CRV. I think if you have the right expectations, the refreshed Escaped works but for folks who really want a bit more dare I say “bling” with the Escape styling, if you can get a deal on one, get the Platinum. Finally, the Dodge Hornet arguable has a bit more aesthetic polish and curb appeal than the Escape and would probably turn a few more heads than the Escape. In fairness to the Escape, the Hornet has a bit of an advantage where its design strategy started out as an Alfa Romeo.
It won't be done till 2025 or 2026 if it is done at all. Ford has been talking about discontinuing the Escape before another model comes out. It will depend if their EV sales take off.

$32K is relatively not so bad, except, I'm not sure I'm on board with that tripod engine. But, it's better than an EV, and you do get a traditional torque converter step-gear automatic. Scotty Kilmer does have me scared of turbos.
If you change the fluids regularly you shouldn't have an issue. That and single turbos are not that expensive if they do go. I have 40k miles on my 2.0 turbo and I use AMSOIL and change every 7k miles or so. If you ignore the 10k mile or 1 year recommendation you will be fine. Only way I'd go near 10k is if I did a ton of highway over 4-5 months.

Mileage are: 270km(170mi) / 165km(10mi) / 58km(36mi). What am I doing wrong?
It's crazy how the small or midsize SUVs prices are going towards the 3-row. I would give the Escape a 8.5
You are so very right Edward!
@@RaitisRides Hey Raiti I need help I'm planning on buying a used Ford Escape or Chevy Equinox, what would you recommend
@@edwardsimmons3190 find a Mazda CX-9
Recent CR-V buyer and love my new Honda. I would not but this or any other Ford atm. Just imagine the resale value of this Escape in 3-5 years. I'll pass.
Thanks for sharing your ownership experience
I’m a huge Ford fan but Honda and their CRV kills this one for sure.
2:33 that's not where we want our "bulges" 🤣
This is a car you get because you have to, not because you want to
OVERPRICED, for what you get. Its a Ford not a Lexus. Subaru Crosstrek is the beset Value for the money and all the safety features are standard.
it looks old and not modern, has lots of plastic, looks smaller too from the outside. putting a massive screen doesn't make it look any better. just my 2 cent
Hell No is the answer to this video's title.
atleast the escape doesent look like a deteriorated cowboy boot
Can’t wait to see this at my local Budget rental
6K more to go and yes I will be counting your channel down to a million 😁.
I love all of my current and past Mazdas and my family loves theirs. We are Mazda people. You can feel the Japanese quality
@@2004cyrus not sure what that has to do with the Escape but thanks for playing who's the biggest fanboy.
Yep, fake vent needs a fog lamp. Exterior not bad, interior still very basic and cheap looking. Dress it up more Ford. Even new Chevy Trax interior looks better……..for $24k ish
A 1.5L turbo inline 3 is a great engine....for a lawnmower!
Or jet ski
Rental fleet material
Weird cause my local Enterprise only has Toyota RAV4s and Corolla Cross for rentals.
Duh it’s a base model
HI joe, I just wish to clarify a point you made on the 2 liter twin turbo, of taking just 5.6 seconds to 60mph. That sounds super quick for a Ford family SUV, putting it only 2 seconds behind the first model Tesla S. Was that time correct? Many thanks for sharing yet another professional review...
I was going to say. I think it knocks a second off from the 3 cylinder, so around 6.6 seconds. I can’t see it being and faster than that.
Regardless of what the actual stat is, the 2.0 is silky smooth and quick. Mine has the excellent 8 speed. Transmission is a little jerky in traffic and around town but perfect elsewhere like highway.
@@302Mustang13 see ford have those awful unrefined herky-jerky trannies! They have for many years. They throw their American crap together and charge too much.
Car and Driver tested to 2.0 liter Ecoboost at 5.7 seconds from 0 to 60 mph.
@@watchreport it actually knocks about 2 seconds and it feels every bit as quick as the sub 6 second time suggests.
I wish Ford would make a new Focus ST/RS in America to compete with Civic Type R, Golf GTI/R, and Corolla GR. I’d buy it🥹
I got the st line silver and black its a very nice ride!!
Joe, I noticed once you’ve been driving for a while, you put your left elbow on the sill, and your right on the console. I do this often also. It’s a small detail, but could you please (just briefly) mention elbow comfort in your reviews?
He often does. Most are too narrow for 6’ tall Joe Raiti. He likes some width like myself and most men would want because we need it.
Good review! :) Glad to see they did an update. However, if compared to the Subaru Forester; it kind of falls short. At least that's my POV.(point of view)
I used to a Ford escape before.its alright
Great reviews 👌
This thing doesn’t even compare to the Rav 4 or CX5 at that price.
Well it does they’re all compact suvs…
@@mattmekhaeil Um no
Joe, do you know why so many of the manufacturers are illuminating fog lights?
Don't you mean eliminating?
it's amazing that car makers always decide there needs to be some negatives like not being able to fold the seat from the back, whyyy
Joe and Lori and keep up the good work and I love the video 👍💯💯
I'm already seeing Escape Actives under $30,000 including rebates and ST's under $32,000.
No no no , the Ford Escape isn’t better than the Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4.
Thanks for sharing your vote on this one.
I am OK with the flat black. Looks good when you get it in blue.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.
New for 2035 is the completely redesigned Ford Escape. Comes standard with an electric motor or for $5000 extra, you can get a 0.5 liter 2 cylinder engine.
LOL You crack me up!
With inflation for 2035 I will say $50000 extra.

2020 ford titanium hybrid owner..
The engine is way better.
The grill, full LEDs, way better alloy rims with 19 inch. Fog lights. Full chrome windows.
The 2020 looks way more modern.
How about a poverty spec model with crank windows ,manual mirrors, manual door locks ,steel wheels for less than $25,000
Poverty spec is the fully loaded with a 100 month loan combo, and an interest rate of 20%, no money down. That car will break down long before the payments end, making you poor and the bank rich (if you end up paying it off, ever)
Chevy Trax…….$24 k
You can get Subaru Crosstrek or the NOT Hybrid Corolla Cross LE for 24K which is barely there but its as cheap as you can go. If you want a Nissan Versa those can be had for 20K in its luxury model and as low as 16K.
i'd recommend the chevrolet trax if you want a cheap but well equipped car. $20,000 for a base LS FWD trim
I’m surprised you didn’t zonk the horn button on this one.
Rather wait for the 2024 Escape when they do a full revision. This refresh worked wonders for the exterior, but overall, it still needs a lot of work.
It won't be done till 2025 or 2026 if it is done at all. Ford has been talking about discontinuing the Escape before another model comes out. It will depend if their EV sales take off.
It’s a good price I hope they get incentives in there. I prefer a base model anything it’s all I really ever want.
Ford 3 cyl turbo charged engine, should be good for 50k miles if your lucky before it pukes all over the highway
It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
Lies. There's more Models on the Road than any other brand. And we mean every year of Ford is on the road. So talk those engines
What’s with car companies getting rid of fog lights? To me they’re more of a safety feature then lane keep assist.
3 cylinders equates a nearby tow truck !!
I'm only here because my job about to give me one of these as a company car. I wanted to know what I'm getting into better than the focus that got totaled

No cvt! The refresh looks great.
Interesting that it has the same displacement as the CRV and equinox but with one less cylinder.
Change the sound level, sounds yeyeye.
Chevrolet equinox, Nissan rogue, Kia sport age, Hyundai Tucson, and gmc terrain.
Hi Joe ,great job again .ford escape looks ok has it a spare tire.
@@302Mustang13 why waste money on a bad ford turbo if you can just get a Mazda and avoid the turbo and get 250,000 trouble free miles with the Amsoil? My family and I are hitting 230,000 miles on all of our Mazda on average, non-turbos. We’ve been a Mazda family since 1989, way before I was born. I’ve had a few used and once I graduated medical school I got my first couple of new Mazdas. They get outstanding reviews by all on RUclips, the comment sections are full of love for the brand with barely any owners that don’t want another one. It’s like eating McDonald’s all of your life and being okay with it because you are just happy to eat then you get a Mazda which feels like Outback Steakhouse and you realize you don’t want to eat McDonald’s ever again. It’s definitely upmarket feel without the cost. TFL Cars and And another channel I can’t remember that is hosted my Chris Wardlaw always say it feels like Mazda dips each car part in lubricant before they assemble the parts together because the smoothness and lack of friction and grinding are Lexus level.
It looks good but I think Ford should discontinue the Escape since they have the Bronco Sport. The Bronco S is basically the same size but with more utility and it comes standard with AWD.
Joe it's actually pronounced Echo Sport. Not sure why though.
"...that's not where we want our bulges...." I totally laughed...
No way my friend
This car is worth no more than 15k. No LED, no sunroof, 3 cylinders, not leather, manual seats, ect... no status... 30k I can get myself an older Alfa romeo that will look good and have red leather and feel good driving. GOOD LUCK ford escape, and don't let anyone escape from your lot. The Price does not match the worth. 30k out and will not sell for no more than 20k in less than a year... let's watch how the sells turn out. I might be wrong... Not!
Sorry but CRV kills this car. Rav4 definitely kills the escape.
Heck even the outlander murders this thing. Great job as always Joe. Keep up the great work. 👍🏻
I don't think so, Ford Escape hybrid is more efficient than CRV, RAV4, getting 44 mpg in city, 37 hwy, 41 combined
8:39 🤣😂🙃
