I was there years ago and as I was hiking I tripped and cut my knee open. I bandaged it up and continued my hike and even stopped at a cave on the way home. Thankfully I worked for husband and wife who were surgeons and the wife took me to her office and stitched me up. Some day I would like to go back to Pennsylvania and explore places once again. It is such a beautiful state!!
I remember the areas I was there for training during the fall in 1991. I remember the director Cynthia L. The curator Jim Brett, Laurie Sharon my friend an Education officer was very close to us. Good memories sure.
Did the River of Rocks Trail a few weeks ago! It was quite a memorable experience. Glad we stayed away from the Skyline Trail, your video shows that we made the right decision.
Ah gee, I was hoping you'd get New Bethel Church in the shot when you looked over the overlooks. I have ancestors buried there. I'm really enjoying this trip down memory lane. I think its a hoot that you've been all the same places I've been as a kid.
Just found this video after watching the Schaumboch one. I'm so thankful to live in a state that has such beauty. Yes, Hawk Mountain is not easy, that's for sure. Thanks for the difficult hike.

Check out the Free 100 Mile View on the way to Glen Onoko if you're coming from down near the Lehigh Valley you'll see signs for it, you can see from a bit below Hawk Mountain (I think) all the way up to Water Gap, it's crazy how much you can see. Unfortunately, someone is trying to turn it into a small residential development, but for the time being, and HOPEFULLY forever, it's just a cleared area on top of a mountain. Definitely the best view I've seen in the area as far as distance goes, and it's right up there with the very best all around. I just grabbed a nice pair of Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide 12X50 binoculars and plan to take them to Hawk Mountain again soon, I stopped on the way back from Cabelas, but didn't stay long at all. It was late and there were no birds out at the time.
I almost got lost here once about 12 years ago, I was in the middle of a break-up with a pathological liar and my mind wasn't right, to put it mildly. Two friends and I were walking around in January and it was getting dark, freezing rain started coming down and we weren't sure where we were, we went down the Skyline Trail and were down in the valley area as it was getting almost completely dark. Luckily we found our way and made it out, it was already well past dark by that time, we were close to hunkering down for the night.
+Lincoln Riddle The trails leading to the main overlooks are easy. Most of the other trails were rather rough, more so than I expected, but still a cool place to hike.
They are the product of glacial formation. The one thing missing in the explanation of this fab video is that actual water runs underneath The River of Rocks, it is a unique feature, pretty cool. I was an intern there 25 years ago...thanks for the video!!

Have you been down to Old Rag yet? There’s a two mile “rock scramble” at the top. Quite vigorous!

It was a difficult trail to hike due to the Rocky trail. There were no Hawks or birds there when we went there. We called it Hawkless mountain!
Planning to go hiking here on Saturday. Are most of the trails rocky? Or are they designated on the map which ones are "rough"?
