Such a great place. Totally not the safest place to play, but my girls loved it! My favorite was the steep climb up and down a dirt hill to get in or out of the park. Hammers & nails were provided so they could create their own forts. If they didn't come home covered with mud and paint, they didn't have a good time. I took them to Gothard Fire Station when they were done to be hosed off.
This is the PERFECT EXAMPLE of how kids were able to roam free without the parents worrying. I’m Always talking with one of my granddaughters. She Always asks about the good ole days of me growing up & this is PERFECT 🥳👍🏼🥳👍🏼🥳👍🏼😊
I was there. I moved to Huntington Beach in 1971. I was 10 years old adventure Park was crazy cool that’s when kids would drink out of the garden hose. Tried doing that stuff today not happening.
I played at Adventure Playground a few times. But, it wasn't this one I don't think. The one I played at was just next to the library, might have been closer to '78, '79, or '80. Was smaller and I remember there was lots of mud!
where was this? my parents grew up here and i want to show this to them with a little more context. I dont think my dad will recognize only from this video. Any roads, landmarks this is near? thanks
I believe a new version of the Adventure Playground still operates in HB, but is now more regulated and there's an entrance fee. Located on Goldenwest Street in the Central Park near the Library. I'm not sure where the original one was located, but I believe it was very near the current one and the gravel pit is likely now a part of the park.
The original one was on the corner of Talbert and Gothard, not too far from the new one. There's a sports park there now and baseball field sitting on top of the old hole in the ground.
I was filled with construction rubble and dirt. It was just across from where Talbert rejoins after, the library parking lot to meet Gothard. The entrance would be near the first base line where the first ballpark is.
This is a park where boys had fun, learning how to be men. Compared to August 24th of 2024, where boys are addicted to their Flatscreen TV's playing Online Games 10+ hours a day... and many are of the Feminine kind. With Social Media destroying the social skills of GenZ! I never been here, but we used to do nothing but played outside riding our bikes, playing tag and hide-go-seek, football and basketball, playing Army Man with sticks at Fort Mason, until dawn, when mom would call us, it's dinner time. And we all would go in, and waited for Creature Features to come on. Man the 1970's and 1980's were the Fun Days... in San Francisco in the North Beach area! So much things to do, being 1 block from Fisherman's Wharf... everyday!
Same with me. Born 1972 and summers were a whole lot of fun back then. Riding bikes, playing soccer, video games, playing frisbee, just hanging out at friends places, and so on.
@@UrbanAstray I remember seeing video games come out in the late 1970's when Pin Ball machines were the thing. Yesss playing Frisbee at the park, and flying kites. And going to Kung Fu movies was a fad too! Seeing Bruce Lee in his movies. We grew up in 2 awesome decades! The 1970's and 1980's.

Love the blonde toe head boy saying we like this place because there were NO RULES 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lord of the Flies is the first thing that comes to mind ...first responders must have had a hell of a time dragging bodies up that slope.
I moved here in 1977 and it was open again. It wasn't this cool. I lived close (GW and Slater) but only explored it once.
Damn those were good times to be a kid. No adult supervision before lawsuits 😂

What's the difference between a lawyer and a catfish? One is a scum sucking bottom feeder... And the other is just a fish. Lawyers ruined California
Was this you as the narrator???
No, don't know the narrators name.
