1. Why aren't there basements? Shallow water table means most basements would be wet and moldy all the time unless specific things are done to prevent it. And those things can cost as much as the rest of the house. In short, most people simply cannot afford it. 2. Why don't we build tornado-resistant housing? It is nearly impossible to build against. While you could probably build a structure to withstand an F-1 or F-2 tornado, anything above that is probably not going to survive the intense and concentrated winds. Here in FL, we build to try to withstand most hurricane forces. But our strongest hurricanes are about the same as a mild to medium tornado. And building a home that can withstand a Cat 5 hurricane costs several million dollars. It's simply out of reach for 99% of people.
It breaks my heart you didn’t feel the joy and excitement me and my friends did while watching this movie! I respect your opinion, I just really loved this film!
Richard Linklater gave Matthew Mcconaughey his breakout role in his movie, "Dazed and Confused." Glen Powell has been in three of Richard Linklater's movies: Fast Food Nation, Everybody Wants Some and Hitman." Glen Powell co-wrote the screenplay for Hitman. Glen has the It factor that makes someone a star and I think Richard was able to appreciate that early in Glen's acting career.
This is it. When people compare him to Tom Cruise, I'm like "hmmm, not quite" but I couldn't put my finger on it--McConaughey hits the nail on the head.
For my Taste McConnaughy has way more swagger. I enjoy his Rom Coms. Glen Powel is very stiff and bland romantically for my taste. He isn't cool. He plays the bully straight edge really well in Maverick though. Which I think is by far his best performance to date.

They should've let her have control. I've seen the movie (a streaming site I like to go to to watch stuff for free had it up, although it was a copy where someone filmed the movie in the movie theater), and it was garbage. Helen probably would've made something better than what we actually got.
Seems to me like Hellen.....eh....i mean Helen went through hell to make the first one.She didn't even want to do it at first.I don't think that she's sorry that she didn't make the second one.
I loved this movie! Saw it in 4dx and that was an absolute blast! I think general audiences are gonna love this one. It has a solid movie blockbuster feeling
Mainstream international audiences already didn't like much at all, and going by presales not even a domestic Avengers-level WoM will be able to lift this one
this movie never interested me, the first one was okay but nothing very special, so i never saw a reason to be excited for this....however 4DX experience might actually be a reason
My problem with the new twisters movie is there's nothing that's like a "wow iconic I need to see this moment" that the first movie had, no rolling house, no cow no nothing.
Watching again, those scenes take me out of the original since the action is so unrealistic and goofy. Vehicles and animals floating in slow motion next to characters in mild wind speeds just doesn't cut it anymore unless you could care less about science stuff like that.
Well, I've seen the movie. There really is no wow moment. There is nothing memorable either like the smaller/non-tornado chasing stuff like The Shining at the drive-in or the steak and eggs scene.
I watched it with my family last week and we all loved it. It delivered what was promised no more no less. If you go with that mindset you'll enjoy it.
I hated it. I went into the movie hoping to like it because I absolutely hated the divorce/fiancée stuff from the first movie. I figured there would be none of that in the movie and things were already looking better. Nope. The sequel is even worse. After 30-45 minutes I was "I wish I was watching the divorce/fiancée stuff from the first movie. At least I can have fun hating on it." Plus the first movie still has a lot of positives. I can't find a single thing positive to say about the sequel. It was garbage. I want to say a part of me thinks the sequel was made so I would appreciate the first movie more.
@ Grace I met Bill Paxton at comicpalooza 2016 and got his autograph and shoot his hand and asked him briefly if he’d ever make a twister sequel and he said he’d love to see one get made
I don't think Javi was supposed to be love interest. It's clear in the movie the other stormchaser was her boyfriend. He is more of her friend and there is no love triangle. This is even touched on in the final scenes.
Hey grace as someone who is deep into the weather chasing community, chasers are usually th first to show up to the scene because they are there front line tryin to chase the tornado. Lot of times emergency management isn’t first to be on the scene during tornado damaged towns
Worse things happens to animals at state fairs than at rodeos, do not look up Ox Pulls. And if people are willing to do that to animals in front of a crowd, imagine how these animals are treated in private on farms. Sorry for the mini rant
The PETA protest wasn’t about the animals in the movie, it was about exactly that. If you look up their statement they wanted the studios to put disclaimers about the cruelty in the real life events.
I made the mistake of watching the original for the first time a few days before I saw the sequel. I say mistake because the OG is so good it ruined this one for me a bit :( this one isn’t bad but it’s unfortunately a bit boring
They missed a huge opportunity by not making her Helen hunt’s daughter who is obsessed with killing tornadoes. I liked it but it could have been better like Grace said needed more heart .
I have to say, this is a take I didn’t agree with. The movie was actually really fun after you lowered my expectations (thank you) and you compared two scenes that had nothing to do with each other. The rodeo is the outdoor theatre comparison, not the theatre they ran to for shelter. It seemed like you tried really hard to connect the two when they really respected that space and became it’s own thing. I do think they should’ve had an OG cameo though.
My husband and I saw the movie last night and he loved it but I thought it was mid. Daisy’s character annoyed me so bad from the first scene until the end. Like Grace said, everyone hyped her up so much and the film never really let her earn that, it was just believe it because we say so. Plus, I felt that she made so many bad decisions throughout that it took me out of it. And yes, I even noticed her accent was all over the place.
Hmm, maybe I'm alone in this but I never sensed a romantic connection between Kate and Javi. I don't think it was due to a poor performance from either actor though... I just don't believe that that a love triangle was ever meant to be part of the plot..the original Twister DEFINITELY contained a love triangle plot between Jo, Bill and Melissa but that didn't exist here.. I just believe that Kate and Javi cared about each other as friends and their connection ran deep due to both experiencing the same trauma, but I don't believe either party had a romantic interest in the other.
Grace: I can’t believe I ran into you at the Imax screening of this movie tonight. I was waiting to see it to watch the review. I hope you enjoyed it more the second time around (it was a party at the theater!). Thanks for being so generous and kind 🙏
Yes, I'm so glad you said "hi"! I often see movies again with friends or family, even if I didn't care for them. I still have issues with the film, but I agree with you that was definitely a great crowd at that showing. Their energy was fantastic! Again it was nice chatting with you! :)
I'm astonished that you've never seen 'Where the Crawdads Sing' Grace. Get the Blu Ray or stream it asap. (The book is even better but I don't want to push my luck! )
Actor/filmmaker, from Oklahoma here, who used to be a storm chaser. Saw it with friends. Gave it a 6.5/10. The heart wasn’t there. The special fx are undoubtedly good, no complaints there. BUT the movie steps away from legit science super early on in regards to their approach to meteorology, which shocks me since they supposedly had meteorologists helping them workshop the more science based weather sequences. One of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen was when they set off fireworks inside a tornado. For what reason? Because explosions and colors, yeah!!! ‘Merica! Script wise, heart and dialogue wise, and caliber of actor wise, the second film doesn’t hold a candle to Twister (1996). Rip to Bill Paxton and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
I saw the movie last night. I have to give a little push back on your opinion on David Cornswet's character. Honestly I don't think his character required alot of charisma. As a former Marine myself he played the character perfectly. He was supposed to be a serious, wooden, sarcastic military guy. He did just that.
I saw it last week and it was a fun summer entertaining movie, I went with my family and everyone had a really good time. The theatrical experience is great.
Native Oklahoman here… I will say a large percentage of houses have cellars. There are not many public shelters aside from some churches, and schools because well, what we’re told is that insurance companies don’t want to cover that type of liability.
Just saw the movie, I'm sorry I got to disagree, this movie was so intriguing to me! Much better story than the Original movie, that was just (while pretty cool at times) action sequences to the next (the whole film felt like it took place ridiculously in the same afternoon) And the weak subplot of the Main characters trying to get divorced, only to drag the new fiancé comicly through the movie until he falls back in love with his ex, leaving the new girl behind..... ....This new one was so much better!!! Adding in the facts that these new characters go as far to continuously help people in the wake of the disasters throughout, the main characters this time falling in love after realizing they're more alike than each other thought initially, and of course the new plot device of actually breaking up the tornadoes than just gaining data on them, to of course be the climax! There was nothing but heart throughout this movie, how could one of your opening statements say otherwise, Grace? Plus, I never felt like Ramos was supposed to be in a love triangle with Jones and Powell. I mean, Corenswet did make that one tease dis at him, referring to her being his "girlfriend" while he was mad at Ramos, but the relationship always felt platonic Lastly, absolutely disagree again about the CGI, while the first film did of course have some amazing practical effects....all I could think watching it is how rough and terrible it looked when they did use GGI......the new film is 10 times better in that aspect besides again of course then not using more practical effects this time.
Yeah Grace saying the film has no heart is ridiculous but honestly with some of Grace recent reviews (Mario Bros movie, Acolyte,) I can't really take her reviews seriously but I still watch them to see how they line up with other reviewers to get a overview on a film.
I feel like the only person who wasn't excited about this film even though I was a fan of the first one. The trailers looked pretty bad to me, so I'm not surprised to hear that you thought the film had problems, Grace. It certainly LOOKED like it has problems.
Oh man i LOVED it, saw it in Imax and had a really fun time with my popcorn & soda. Many flaws but i wasn't watching it to have my mind blown. Money well spent at the theater for me. The rodeo scene was incredible (when you see it, you'll know) - & those animals are really well trained for Hollywood & production. I think they are fine.
nothing kills me more then stopping a natural disaster movie for bad dialog and it pains me to hear the special effects are worse we truly are regressing in special effects.
You have some valid points here that I didn't even consider. At the same time, this was about a perfect as an American summer blockbuster as you can get. I enjoyed it, despite everything.
I don’t know how you can look at a film like this and NOT come to the conclusion that Hollywood is simply fundamentally broken. These issues are pervasive in film after film after film. Soundstages are replacing on-site locations, shoddy VFX are replacing artistic practical effects, and cinematography has become copy-paste from movie to movie. Cinema as an art form is dying all in the name of profit.
The trailer never made me feel like “wow! That’s gonna be incredible” it was always like “meh, that looks like fun I guess”. Can’t say I’m surprised it didn’t hit. I feel like it’s appealing to a very niche audience, but I could be wrong.
Grace - love your enthusiasm - even when saying you could not get it to it :) I am just exhausted by the remakes... I wasn't rushing out to see this - but I would have celebrated the "success" - for the industry if it did well.
I watched the movie and was very disappointed. The only reason they call it Twisters was to get fans of the original to watch a “sequel” of a movie they love. Expect it’s not a sequel. No original characters come back, only one reference to the original which makes no sense. WHERE IS HELEN HUNT?!?! They should’ve called it something else
In my opinion, I watched the 1st movie, and I didn't get the appeal of it. There were some great moments, but watching people chase tornados just didn't make sense to me lol
I agree with everything Grace said. The original had everything going for it but this sequel couldn't match it. The whole tone was different and not once did I feel like the tornadoes were the antagonists. The way they formed and growled in the original is unmatched. The eerie music as well. Twisters was a missed opportunity in my opinion.
I loved this one! One of the only times I’ve had a hard disagreement with ya Grace. Maybe because I adore the first one and this sequel keeps the formula. No politics Just likable characters and tornadoes But one thing I did like more in the sequel- is the sense of community with the aftermath 🥹
Honestly, I'm just here for Glen Powell! I've been a fan since his Scream Queens days, it's disappointing it sounds like he isn't even a co-lead. I was wondering about Daisy Edgar Jones, saw her Crawdads (tbf I had a lot of problems with the original novel) and while I didn't think she was terrible she comes across kinda bland. She seems really bland in the trailers I've seen for this too.
Great review! I really got a sense of the film. You described the original perfectly too and why it worked. The original was such a thrill ride and had likable warm characters with heart. From the trailer Daisy's accent is all over the place. I will go see it soon to see if it annoys me.
If you love the first film, don’t go in expecting this to be anything like it. I saw it this afternoon with friends, we were so hyped for it. One friend left to take phone call about halfway into it and didn’t come back. Another fell asleep. I envy people who can fall asleep sitting up. I thought it was okay.
Saw it tonight. It was fun! It doesn’t have the magic of the original, and I don’t think it will be as memorable, but overall a good time at the movies. The story was tighter, but the lack of practical set pieces and sound design make it less of a thrill ride and more of a drama. The twisters felt like characters in the original, but as I’m writing this the only truly memorable scene in this movie was the motel scene. I also preferred the musical score of the original. The tornadoes looked great though!
Well Grace, the o.g. film, Twister, is my all-time favorite movie. It's the perfect elemental adventure film. I appreciate your honesty. I will lower my expectations in preparation.
I live in tornado ally - in Nebraska and Missouri - and anyone who doesn't have a basement, which would be odd, has a storm shelter of some sort. And no home/building can be 'tornado proof'. The cost, weight, sudden increase and decreases in air pressure, structure would be too expensive and a waste since high tornado winds can throw bricks like paper and make missiles out of anything. I don't like how they make them sound in movies - sampling roaring animal sounds blended in - they sound like freight trains in real life - without the whistles.
Daisy Edgar Jones actually is really good in Where the Crawdads Sing, super melodramatic movie but I eat that stuff up for movies sometimes 😅 I pretty much have no interest in Twisters, but good to know to tell my dad tho! He’s the one more excited for this & it takes a lot for my dad to be excited about new movies.
I thoroughly enjoyed this review. I watched the original Twister in theater and it was a great popcorn film. I had such a great time. I don't know if I'll watch this one but the first one was so innovative and I am so happy Grace referenced the drive-in theater scene from the original. I am from California and drive-ins are dying out here, dramatically so. There is so much that I appreciate from the original.
Idk what she’s talking about, this movie was tons of fun and had lots of heart.

I think Glen Powell is the new Mathew Mcconaughey. The way he speaks and carries himself in this was SO similar to Mathew in Magic Mike.

I mean, Corenswet did make that one tease dis at him, referring to her being his "girlfriend" while he was mad at Ramos, but the relationship always felt platonic
Lastly, absolutely disagree again about the CGI, while the first film did of course have some amazing practical effects....all I could think watching it is how rough and terrible it looked when they did use GGI......the new film is 10 times better in that aspect besides again of course then not using more practical effects this time.
I think they are fine.
nothing kills me more then stopping a natural disaster movie for bad dialog and it pains me to hear the special effects are worse we truly are regressing in special effects.
it's going for a 70-80mill opening that's 30-35mil more than estimates- it's doing something right - like a fun summer movie
Aww man I could just not get into Grace’s review of Twisters.
Said to myself - see how long you can go before you disagree with her…
2.5 seconds.
The trailer never made me feel like “wow! That’s gonna be incredible” it was always like “meh, that looks like fun I guess”. Can’t say I’m surprised it didn’t hit. I feel like it’s appealing to a very niche audience, but I could be wrong.
They sort of had a nod to Bill Paxton, his son has a cameo in the movie.
When Grace is saying its a bad MOVIE...YOU MUST WATCH IT...BECAUSE ITS A MASTERPIECE 😡😡
Usually I’d agree… but in the is case, Twisters is awful. Truly laughable… and 200M?!?
And that stays true for this film as well.
What’s crazy to me is that the rotten tomato score for the original movie is lower than twisters
Grace - love your enthusiasm - even when saying you could not get it to it :) I am just exhausted by the remakes... I wasn't rushing out to see this - but I would have celebrated the "success" - for the industry if it did well.
TWISTERS WAS A FUN MOVIE!
What’s there to spoil over a movie about Tornados? 😂😂
Nothing will beat Twister!! Period!!!
I loved this one! One of the only times I’ve had a hard disagreement with ya Grace.
Maybe because I adore the first one and this sequel keeps the formula.
No politics
Just likable characters and tornadoes
But one thing I did like more in the sequel- is the sense of community with the aftermath 🥹
I feel like she was sleepy during her viewing or something. I don't see those first few points at all.
This movie was so fun! The theater was packed here in California and everyone clapped!
Great review! I really got a sense of the film. You described the original perfectly too and why it worked. The original was such a thrill ride and had likable warm characters with heart. From the trailer Daisy's accent is all over the place. I will go see it soon to see if it annoys me.
I feel a lot of the Midwest will wait on this as we keep getting hammered with tornadoes.
Good point
If you love the first film, don’t go in expecting this to be anything like it. I saw it this afternoon with friends, we were so hyped for it. One friend left to take phone call about halfway into it and didn’t come back. Another fell asleep. I envy people who can fall asleep sitting up. I thought it was okay.
The original might have had more practical effects but it was a nightmare for the actors. They had eye problems and some got wounded.
Worth it , that movie looked great
I wanted to see this in 4dx. You have changed my mind. I will not see this in theatres at all now.
Javi is the new Melissa let that sink in lol
The cow didn't come back because she was asking too much money.lol
This … this is the first time I don’t agree with Grace in the least. I am shocked. It was the most fun I’ve had at the movies in forever.
It's a sequel that no one was asking for. I'm not surprised in the least.
This is the summer blockbuster! Movie is great with enough heart for a visual and emotional entertainment
If you ignore the original Twister's existence, this would be an acceptable film. But if you've watched the original before, this is just not good.
State fair would have been a great idea!
I know, right? The big Ferris Wheel spinning through the sky scene practically writes itself!
Im ready for Waterworld 2 with Glen Powell
Daisy Edgar Jones actually is really good in Where the Crawdads Sing, super melodramatic movie but I eat that stuff up for movies sometimes 😅
I pretty much have no interest in Twisters, but good to know to tell my dad tho! He’s the one more excited for this & it takes a lot for my dad to be excited about new movies.
I just watched Twisfer today. I am looking forward to Twisters but I think I’ll wait for streaming.
Watched it today and I loved it!!!! Better than the original. DEJ is a star.
I agree with Grace. I thought this movie was just plain boring, and all I kept thinking was "man, the original was better than this"
I thoroughly enjoyed this review.
