- "Empire State of Mind" live performance by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys in Yankee Stadium before Game 2 of the 2009 World Series.
I'm not a Yankees fan by any stretch, but how could they not be pumped to win after this?
Anthony Anderson well they won this game
@@AAli220 and then went on to lose 1 more game and win the world series
1world
One of the greatest memories of my childhood.
Freshman in high school.
Second Level right above 1st base with a view of Texiera.
Not the best seats but they were seats at the World Series.
There was no better experience than getting to see Jay-Z perform live, AjBurnett Pitch a gem. Matsui go off, and watch the collapse of Pedro Martinez with "Who's your daddy being shouted by everyone in the stadium"
Actually I lied,
Getting to brag about it in school the next day was an even better feeling (lol)
+Nick Morris awesome! pedro was toast this series!
I was at the game too and I remember the who's your daddy chants😂
dave roberts boiiii.
This makes me wonder if Game 2 tickets were way pricier than game 1 or 6 because you were also getting the Jay-Z/Alicia Keys performance plus a World Series Game.
The Yankees proving they were still Pedro’s daddy. 😆
Im not from N.Y. or a Yankees fan but this gives me chills!!
Especially the line “long live the world trade”
Alicia keys voice is on another level. Always find rappers. But singers like this, where they can hold a note - better chance at finding gold nugget in a river. I know for a fact most of the players was looking to see if they can date her.
@@C0astinG4mer favorite line in the song!
The roar of the crowd when Jay sings "I made the Yankee hat more famous then a Yankee can". This brings back great memories of the 2009 WS Championship."
Was at game that night. Crowd was electric. And best of all the Yankees win. The Yankees win.
Stop capping
@@oofoof2855 how the hell you know they cappin 🤣
@@bri.51 me just wanted attention don’t bother with him
This song reminds me of my dad. I remember watching the game together in the summer of '09. He passed away in 2016 and I really miss him. When I see this performance I think of my dad and Im grateful for the memory.
Atomic 419 ❤️
Rip to your dad.. im a dad who is currently missing my daughter. Your dad misses you. Just Know that. happy new year.
Rip q
He must have been a good dad . I miss my dad also been 3.5 years . Not a hour goes by that I don't think of him .
She rocked the hell outta them purple boots with that jacket😍😍...yessss she did!!!
Derek Jeter rocking out to that song was awesome!!!!
Maria Bienko jiom
Jay's fit was clean!
On god
Coldest ever
"Shit, I made the Yankee hat more famous then a Yankee can". Thats a bold statement considering the circumstances
fr
He’s right though. No one else can make the Yankee hat more famous than Jay-Z. Im not a Yankees fan but that statement is true
@@matt13r1 Yeah nah. Sorry but Yankees fans will be around much longer than Jay-Z
Agreed. Frankly -- it was Alicia's vocals on the chorus that made this a hit, not Jay Z's mediocre rap. Yankees will be the Yankees long after no one remembers who TF Jay Z was.
@@DirectionlessStudent mediocre rap is a ridiculous take, Jay Z has defined the legacy of NYC over the last 20 years and this song is literal proof
3:50 the real retro moment
That’s how we know we’re getting old. Lol
Do you know who he is
I'll go to my death bed believing this performance was the sole reason we won that series.
Westbrook GOAT I hate the Yankees but when I saw this performance I said to myself “watch this propel them to win the World Series.” And sure enough it did. I agree with you.
Same tho
I’m from TN but been a Yankees fan my whole life, and I agree with you. Game one they were sluggish, but I believe this pumped them back up. Other than the subway series this was my favorite series.
They were better
Once you get the captain Derek jeter who always the most serious in the clubhouse vibing to the music you should know that there was a feeling he and the rest of the Yankees were feeling with that
Shout out to the camera man...
lmao
He did good dk what u mean
Its Raakah No shit he did good. Hence the shout out, probably specifically for the nice ass shots I’m guessing.
(men)**
😏😈
They didn’t lose another game after this. It was EPIC
They lost Game 5. Had to come back to Yankee Stadium to win it in 6.
@@Lord_Bibulous yup
It's feeling like 2009 again, Let's go Yankees 2019!
Phillies fan here. That was a rough series for us. Haven't been back since. Just fired Gabe Kapler 14 hours ago. Missing those days. Gonna definitely be rooting for the Yankees though to kick the shit out of Houston.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that
Go Astros
I was in prison watching this. Got me hyped lol ijs
lol go dodgers
@@BMW-el7sf why you went there
I was born in Cali and I live in Vegas now, but NY makes the best rappers hands down
Dirty Sanchez I live in Vegas now. I used to live in New Jersey which was next to New York. This song always brings a tear to my eye. How about you?
Alex Weinstein it’s just inspires me ya feel ???

This is so iconic I wish I could’ve experienced this
What a moment. Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, two of New York’s finest.
Playing for New York’s finest:
Jeter
Rivera
Sabathia
Texiera
Pettite
Posada
A-Rod
Matsui
The 2009 World Series Champions, the unstoppable New York Yankees.
You forgot to mention Robinson Cano
This felt more like 10 months ago compared to 10 years ago. I was in the 2nd level mezzanine rockin to this
The piano seat had the best seat in the house!!!
Right after this song, Yankees went on to dominate the rest of the series! Let's here it for NY!! Let's go Yankees!
I was at this game. It was great.
I wasent born
+Scamp how old are you???

2021 and I got chills.......are you serious!
Im a bonafide metal head but damn after 9/11 this song and Alicia's belting voice just gives me goose bumps
Even the Phillies were enjoying the performance
It’s a great song.
I’m a Phillies fan and it still gives me chills watching it all these years later!
I remember this night- was working the night shift and caught this beginning on the tv in the cafeteria of a place we stopped for dinner before continued working
Watching this for the first time, and although my mother moved me out of the Bronx at the age of 7, I'm still a proud New Yorker. This was epic!
"I'm the new Sinatra, and since I made it here, I can make it anywhere..."
I made it.
As a Yankees fan, this brings back so many good memories... but also makes me depressed we haven't been able to get back to the world series since then..
we got cheated outta one by the astros
My favorite World Series ever!!!

1111
damn that girl can sing
Before the days where everything was autotune
She can! She’s one of my favorite singers of all time. She’s talented, she’s also beautiful.
Ya maybe she will win a Grammy and become famous one day
As a Phillies fan, this performance was straight🔥 This World Series was such a great matchup. Disappointed that we had to lose it in the end.
I remember this growing up!
I remember watching this live. Still gives me chills.
Alicia Keys is so gorgeous
Love the song, love the vibe, and above all, love the Yanks! 27 rings and counting!!!
Even Phillies players were like WOW
2:52 drummer enjoying his job very much lol
That's Tony Royster Jr. One of the best drummers in the world...
Jeter at 3:25 was hilarious.
Damn! Alicia Keys can singggg 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This brings back memories of me and my dad watching this game and this was my jam
The stadium echo ruined it lol
Lol yeah it did LMAO, shame great song, great performance
hell yeah
Jay-Z ruined it.
Def not the right acoustics- but most rap sucks live- you lose the production when you go live
Hey man the The stadium echo makes it the best
I remember back when this was live. I fucking loved it at the time. Not many times I’ve had my hairs stand on the back on my neck!
Greatest City Anthem ever ....name a better one ...?
Turning point of the series! Go Yanks!
Amo as músicas da alicia da uma sensação tão boa ouvir a voz dela!!!
This is the first memory in my brain, like when you realize your a human and alive, I was watching it on tv.
Undeniably, Both Artist their very Best

I still think about you when I hear this song good times
Jeters reaction is classic
I remember this watchin live with my parents
Even if you didn’t know Jay-Z was from New York, the Timbs, Yankees cap, and sagged pants say it for him
Probably bought the WS for them that year singpehandledly
But Jay-Z can make the Yankee hat more famous then a Yankee can
Alicia looks A-mazing....that outfit..✨✨✨

Wow. Great performance.

Imagine being a Philly in the dugout just thinking “well this season is over”
I remember seeing this getting ready to go to Afghanistan the next year and knowing Jeter was about finished. Loved this song
Respect, time for another jam hov/keyes asap n dj k saying another one
720p from '09. Crazy asf.
As a Phillies fan, I hated how much I this!! My mom’s family are all from the Bronx and Brooklyn - huge Yankees fans - so even though we lost, it was a great series!
MLB needs to have Super Bowl Halftime-like performances.
*I hate how much I love this
Who's here after they saw the "Concrete Jungle Wet Dreams Tomato" tiktok meme? 🤣
I think Jay Z and Alicia Keys need to come back and perform this!!!
After this performance we went on to bitch slap philly to win #27. 🎶lets hear it for New York🎶!! Yanks4life Brooklyntildeath
